I love White Oak Gardens!! I'm pretty firmly an outdoor-only gardener and the selection of fruit, veg, florals, trees, shrubs, ground covers, etc is fantastic. Cute garden center with a good variety. Some of their prices are a bit on the high side and they don't always have as much variety of indoor plants as some other plant shops, however I do enjoy visiting them and seeing what I can find. You also sometimes get coupons to spend which is nice. My most recent visit I was a little unimpressed as it seems like their indoor plants have not been super cared for, maybe with the transition of spring annuals coming in. They had a lot of indoor plants tucked in corners, either under watered or over watered. read more

I've been here 5-6 times now, and I've found a lot of positives and a few (though important) negatives: Positive: They have a wide variety of plants that appear very well-cared for. Even late in the season (say, late August), there are still numerous options of each variety. And everything I've bought there this season is still alive and thriving. Positive: Unlike most garden stores, they have an entire house plant section, with many unique plants that I always end up adding to my collection. Negative: Their prices are higher than many other nurseries out there. So I limit my buying there to a few practical purchases and maybe one "indulgence buy." Negative: Some staff are overzealous in, well, bossing their customers around. The checkout lanes in particular have seemed in the past like an overly-regimented and depersonalizing experience for me. On my most recent visit there, one staff member interrupted me while I was getting checked out, to try to quickly whisk my cart away. I made it clear to her that I was keeping my cart, even asking her to place my box of newly-purchased plants in it. She ignored my comment, and asks in a perky, superficially cheerful (but no less bossy and intrusive) voice, if I want to give up my cart and carry my box to the car. Already asked and answered. Why didn't my "no" mean "no" to her? My reply to her was that I wasn't at the point of even thinking about that (I was busy paying for my purchase and interacting with the cashier until she came over and interrupted us). Her response was to remove my box of purchases out of my cart, place it back on the counter and wheel my cart away while I was busy paying. Maybe it's okay that she didn't identify me as being in my 70's, but she should have seen that the box was heavy and unwieldy, and that I needed the cart to get my purchase to the car. But it was also a boundaries issue for me -- it's up to me to decide how to utilize the tools they give us (my cart) to decide how to complete my purchase and get them to the car. What business was it of hers how I did it? The woman checking me out was very pleasant, but not so much the bossy lady who interfered --- I left feeling un-listened to and, yes, bullied. I think that was the last straw for me. I remember in past visits that I felt like a bossed-around cog in a machine once I got to checkout. But this was the time I decided that the variety of plants isn't worth the treatment I consistently receive. I won't be back. read more

I've stopped by White Oak Garden Center multiple times over the course of the last 6 months. On my first visit in April, I purchased 2 houseplants, a spider plant and Peperomia Rosso. The spider plant is absolutely thriving! This bad boy has grown quite large since April. My second visit a few days after the first, I purchased another houseplant, a Peperomia Ginny. In May, I stopped by to purchase some outdoor plants for my flower bed by my front door. I bought 2 Golden Splash Wintercreeper, 1 Wine & Roses Weigela, and 5 bags of mulch. The plants were quite expensive (about $45 each), but the mulch was cheap about $5 a bag. The wintercreepers are doing quite well. Still absolutely vibrant. The weigela is pretty much dead. My latest visit in late July, I purchased 2 more houseplants, a Marble Queen Pothos and Pilea (Chinese Money Plant). All of the houseplants I purchased are doing very well. The Pilea has been shedding some leaves, but overall still surviving. Overall, I really like the atmosphere at White Oak Gardens. The staff are helpful, though there was one that was a bit dismissive of my questions. The prices are decent and comparative to what I've found at Home Depot. A bit more expensive than Walmart, but less risk of pests - so worth it in my opinion. read more

Besides that this place is way overpriced, it's no different than what's shipped to Home Depot or Lowe's! Nothing is grown in house, it's weak and dies. They have no knowledge about plants!! When asking questions they will give you the wrong information and sell you incorrect plants, then blame their seasonal help. Made in China cheap overpriced decorations you can order on Amazon for half the price. Don't waste your time! You want shipped in plants go to Home Depot, Lowe's or Tractor Supply! You want real nice hardy home grown plants shop the small local Greenhouses! And as far as those so called coupons! What a joke! Was told my credits would be left on my Mothers account, who is a 84yr old senior, under her phone number, was a complete lie!!! So why even ask for a phone number or personal information? Early in the Spring, before a freeze, we planted pansies. I was a little leery to do so, as the weather that week was unpredictably cold, but we went ahead and planted. I contacted Evan the next day and told him I was really worried that the pansies froze. He assured me they would be ok, but if they were not, we could talk about replacement. He was right! This place is always beautiful! The artist in me always gravitates towards the colorful blooms. There is color everywhere and it is the type of place that can positively impact your mood. I call it "Color Therapy"! I go here for soil and pots etc. but I always leave with interesting plants for my private art students to draw. There are lots of nursery's in my area but this one has got to be the largest most eclectic selection. There are multiple indoor/outdoor sections and plenty of space for the kiddo to run around without breaking anything or getting into too much trouble. They also give all the kids free "freeze pops" (not to be confused with popsicles) as they wander through the place. My son loved it! If you are on the west side and into this sort of thing I'd recommend a stop. It does not seem expensive until you get to the register but I want, need and enjoy everything I buy here. Finding a nursery to purchase and plant a tree has been a little frustrating this year. I ordered a tree from another place in May. As of this week it still wasn't in the ground. I was in the White Oak area and decided to stop in. Immediately purchased a tree and was told it would be 2-3 weeks for delivery and planting. That was on Wednesday afternoon. By 10:15a this morning (3days later) it's in the ground and looks healthy wonderful! I never get that lucky or better service! Trenton worked alone to plant the tree. I feel like a kid in a candy store whenever I come here -except it's plants! My sister always buys all her flowers here, so I started coming here last spring. I really feel happy whenever I step through the door. The explosion is colors is incredible! The new greenhouse makes shopping so nice- no worry of getting rained on. The staff is really knowledgeable & friendly. They always help me sort out my ideas. I'm not a very confident gardener & the beauty & massive selection can be enticing as well as overwhelming! They also have lots of garden accessories- statues, planters, garden tools, etc. It is more expensive than the big box stores but worth it. There is always someone around who is knowledgeable & like I said a big bonus to the novice gardener. Great place! read more

What a joke! I spent a ton of money there for my landscaping, and they said everything I bought had a one year warranty(also a joke) 2 of my bushes are clearing dead and they would not replace them. So my husband bought new. Take your business elsewhere! read more

White Oak Garden Center is one of the loveliest Garden Centers Cincinnati has to offer. The staff is helpful and extremely friendly--and there's plenty of them around to offer help and advice. The space is well laid out, and the plants are premium. The offerings are fairly diverse. I wish the herb section could be expanded a bit, to offer things a bit more exotic like Lemongrass, Garlic Chives and Thai Basil. I also think this may be one of the highest priced spots to buy plants in Cincinnati, and I always buy plants from local farmers/garden centers. I was lucky enough to hit the place up on an earlybird special morning ($10 off any purchase of $20). I love supporting local businesses, but be warned you are definitely paying for the experience of this place. I was glad to see they've added a loyalty program, however. It's a great way to bring customers back! read more

Prices are high. Selection is great. Staff is FANTASTIC. First of all, White Oak is set up almost like a department store, so it's easy to navigate and find what you're looking for. If you can't find it, though, the staff is friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. As for the costs of plants, I know that I can't have the same low prices I got when I lived in Florida, but I get sticker shock every time I go to an Ohio nursery. White Oak is no exception, but at least they're not the MOST expensive in the area either. Also for a relatively small store, they have a good variety of both new and unique materials as well as the tried and true "bread and butter" trees, shrubs and perennials. But it's mostly the staff that keeps us coming back. Try them out. You'll see what I mean, the minute you engage with anyone who works there. read more

I love to go to White Oak Nursery. They have wonderful staff and give great information on growing a beautiful garden. I purchased several different varieties of plants for my garden and with the hard winter we had this past year, most of my plants survived, except 3 plants. I lost my Strawberry Pink Foxglove and I was truly disappointed by losing it. It was very unusual. I lost one Spire Russian Blue Sage, one hosta, and one creeping phlox. I mulched an used burlap to protect for winter. If you want variety and help, White Oak Nursery is the place to go. You will find colors and varietals no where else. They can be pricey but I have received coupon post cards, which help. I need to check on, if they replace plants that don't make it. It is worth the trip to get ideas and see a beautiful nursery. As a relative newbie to the gardening game, I find myself somewhat overwhelmed when considering all of the options to enhance the curb appeal of my home. Previous visits to big-box chain stores were successful, but not enjoyable. Other visits to smaller stores offered more of the same. When preparing to lay sod at our house this past week, I contacted White Oak Garden Center after seeing a street-side advertisement. I couldn't be happier that I reached out to them. Every employee I spoke to over the next few days was outrageously friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They spoke without jargon and made it easy to understand what I needed to do to prepare for the project. After my calculations regarding how much sod I needed proved to be way too large, they even allowed me to return the unused portion for a full refund (in similar circumstances, other stores have refused or only issued store credit). Their prices are a little higher than others, but I have no problem paying a premium for such outstanding customer service, simply because I have full confidence that whatever purchase I make is going to be the right decision. Excellent shop with very friendly staff! I went because I had some plants to repot, but living in an apartment I had neither the supplies nor the space to do so. After some online searching I found the White Oak Garden Center and drove over. Sue was very helpful. She helped me find pots within my price range, repotted the plants for me, and gave me tips on how to help my plants survive this winter weather. I seem to differ from the other reviewers on this, but as a college student I was actually really surprised with how cheap it was. read more
