Outdated and lot of things are missing, Better go to The People's House at 1700 Pennsylvania ave. For the limited artifacts displayed, I wonder why we still need to go through the security checks. It's located in the old patent office.

This was our last stop before heading out of DC for Easter weekend. We had taken a bus tour that pointed this out as a landmark. It is across the street from the White House itself. I have to say it was a welcome break for us since we were with our 2-year-old and hadn't been able to go into any of the museums. You have to go through a security check to get in at no charge. There was a clean public restroom. It isn't a huge space, but enough for some thoughtful White House history to admire. We did enjoy the gift shop because we were able to get the annual White House Christmas ornament that is really beautiful.

    An exhibit.

Since this was a government building, I had to clear security and get my bag xray'd before entering. Watch, belt and wallet also had to be screened. Maybe TSA precheck could help facilitate entry for some visitors! Once inside, there were nicely curated exhibits of life, work, celebrations, history and the people supporting the White House. Given that I did not contact my Congressperson to plan a tour this was the only alternative to the in person tour There also was an open theatre in the rear and a gift shop plus special exhibits in the front. My only negative comment dealt with a number of the video screens in the various exhibits were not working. Someone needs to do some maintenance or use more reliable devices.

I enjoyed my visit here. It is easily located near the mall in a federal building, with grand ceilings. And free to get in, after going through TSA like security. Open Mon- Sun during business hours. I did not secure a scheduled visit to the White House. But honestly, this was a more fruitful alternative, in my opinion, and based on reviews of both. So much great info, artifacts, pictures, documents, videos, of White House history and its occupants. How it was built and who built it (originally the enslaved), and the many iterations it has gone through. It was fascinating to spend a couple of hours in there. It has some cool interactive touchscreen pads that you can do a deep dive into the layout of and floors and some of the rooms of the White House, along with info on presidents from the 1800s to today. The documentary that is viewable in the back of the venue is worth your time to watch. Though, I wish it just played on a loop rather than a wait time for it to restart. The Center definitely gives honor and reverence to the office of the presidency. Would recommend if interested in history & both the professional and personal lives of the President and their families.

If you're going to the White House tour, this is a good scene-setting with information on the house itself. If you aren't going to the White House, it's still good a good oversight, but it won't take too long to go through. There's a short video way to the side and tucked away, so it's easy to miss. The building itself is beautiful and a former patent office with a beautiful ceiling and chandeliers. Plus it's a good bathroom if you're in the zone. There is a weird security to get into essential a small free museum (it's just like being in the airport) which seems like overkill. The gift shop is really large, so lots of great stuff to look at. There's also a lot of places to sit, because DC is a walking town, and sometimes you just need a nice, quiet indoor space to chill a moment.

This is a must-visit attraction when in DC. Everyone has to go through the security clearance first. Inside, the exhibition is only one-floor but is filled with historical information and beautiful artifacts. The White House is not just the President's residence and place of work, it is akin to a museum, but just not an easily accessible one. The White House Visitor Center is a good place to visit when one can't visit The White House.

Really enjoyed my visit here. No pass or reservation required, but there is security. Lots of details about the people's house and life inside with artifacts of furniture and fun details about various presidents schedules and holidays. The gift shop has toys, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and a lot more.

This isn't just a visitor's center, it's also a mini museum of all things "White House". It includes exhibits of the Presidents, first families, their life in the White House and even things like what foods they ate and who cooked it. The entry is free and what is especially great is that they are open from 7:30am. Most museums in DC open anywhere between 10am and 12pm, so you can really get an early start to your day by visiting this Center. Important to note, you do have to go through a security checkpoint so enjoy your drinks prior to visiting. There are lots of items for sale in the gift shop and plenty of people to ask questions to if you need any help.

Nice large place to get some info on White House. They have a gift shop, exhibit, and a showing with info on the White House. They do have a ranger and you can ask for a Junior ranger program for your little one to get jr ranger badges.

The museum was quite interesting especially about the history of the White House building itself and the typical schedules for the presidents and first ladies. However, the museum opened later than usual like around 8:10 am instead of 7:30 am when I went, probably due to technical issues. Otherwise, the exhibits were quite interesting to look at.

Nice visitor center chronicling the history of the White House. The exhibits were nice and informative. There was an on-site video area to watch a short historical White House film. Bathrooms were clean. Admission was free. Security was very strict. We enjoyed our visit.

    What a neat ceiling!

This is a separate building from The White House and it's located a few blocks away. You don't need a tour pass to enter here like with The White House and it's a nice place to visit along with the actual White House (or instead if you can't get a tour). It houses a large museum to The White House and has a great amount of information inside. It also houses a nice gift shop, so you can get souvenirs here (there's a small gift shop inside The White House too, but this is the big one). It's a nice little museum and I would recommend coming here!

The visitor's center is nice. The Park Service and volunteers help run the facility. There are interesting displays that offer pieces of history about the white house. There is a short film featuring several presidents.

Reason for using a tour guide is It's extremely crowded at the Visitors Center, and constant crowds of students on field trips to learn about our branches of government. The DC by Foot guides are very knowledgeable, they know where to go in the Capitol. The guide I had got House Gallery passes for our group and the commemorative 250 yr (US Semi quincentennial) admission tickets. I learned you can tell if the House or Senate is in session by looking to see if the flag is raised or not on the House or Senate side. The other part of the tour is watching a presentation then going with the US Capitol guides in red jackets and using audio to view the art and history. I also liked the souvenir shop there too so I got commemorative 250 items.

Surprisingly, this restaurant actually was good, and the desserts were excellent. It was better than trying to find someplace to eat. They also had one of the best gift shops I had seen all week. The tour guide was extremely helpful with tips of other places to go, pointing out that we had direct access to the Library of Congress. This is definitely a must see. I had no idea you could walk to it from the capital, and then it actually was an active library.
