The vibe is classic Irish pub, the staff is friendly and welcoming and the Guinness is delicious! The outside is classic red and welcomes you right in, when you enter through the small door, you walk right into the bar which is flanked by small seating areas on the right and left. The only gripe is the bathroom was pretty rough, but this is a super old place...but next renovation should include the restroom for sure. Overall, loved Flannery's!

Definitely work a look for what I would deem a REAL irish pub.

Great place to enjoy a pint and Irish music…read more We came at 9 pm on a Saturday night. The place was busy, but we could get a table for 5 by the band. The prices were reasonable and the lead singer took requests. They had an Irish step dancer who did a few routines in coordination with the band. There was room to dance if folks were inspired, which led to a group of high school kids taking turns doing a quick Irish king or reel in sneakers from the audience. There was not the usual pressure to keep ordering drinks when your glass emptied out. Great Craic overall

Is this review slightly biased? Did I see the world though jetlagged eyes? Yes absolutely, but who the hell cares; Bill hooked me up with my first pint after one long journey from NYC and I will be forever grateful for it. Walking in, we found a well sized pub with a nice selection of beers on tap. The usual selection of Smithwick's, Harp, Bulmer's cider were to be found, and I couldn't have been happier to see them waiting for me. The first thing that really struck me however was the music. How could we have known that Bill Chawkes was voted the number one country bar in Ireland? So while we were sipping on our pints Shania Twain and Toby Keith sang about pickup trucks and broken hearts.......just what we were looking for in Ireland, American rednecks haha. Again though we were exhausted and thrilled to be anywhere that had a cold pint and some food. We made our way to the nicely sized backyard and found a nice table in the shade. After a few minutes (and a few rounds) we ordered up a bite to eat; I had the burger (Irish beef is awesome), and my date had the chicken curry. As soon as the curry came out I knew I had made a terrible mistake, as it smelled like heaven (tasted like it too) but alas I had to settle for "curry fries" which were almost as good. Like I said maybe it was the jetlag, or the thrill of finally making it to our destination (or both), but this was one of the nicest meals I had on the whole trip. If you are in Adare, Bill Chawkes is absolutely worth checking out; good food, great location, and a lively crowd in the evening - you can't go wrong.

It was still early so there was just a large party in the yard and a few locals sitting around the bar. Since it was such a pleasant day, we opted to sit out back to enjoy our first official Irish pints and lunch. The yard's walls are covered in old timey cigarette and alcohol ads with large statues of men and their dogs. The only thing that was slightly off putting was the american country music pouring out of the speakers. Once I got over the initial shock of realizing that Shania Twain, Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks were here to stay, I settled in. I just took it as a sign that Ireland was welcoming us with an easy transition. The bar tender was a friendly gentleman that helped us pick brews and took our orders after a few drinks. Even though we were outside, he was attentive and timely with service. As we enjoyed the afternoon, we got to meet another American couple that had been visiting Ireland. It was nice to get their opinions of what they've done and where we might look into going. Although, when the food arrived, we couldn't help but ignore them while we dug in. I had made a choice to eat local cuisine while in Ireland so I had chosen the chicken curry (diced chicken in a thick curry sauce served with rice). It was just delightful. My date had ordered the cheeseburger and french fries which was also quite good. The beef is certainly a different flavor over in Ireland and the french fries were great (especially dipped in the curry). The environment is great, food is fantastic and service is well done. What more could a person look for in a local pub. I would be happy to return to this little quaint town and, of course, I'd make sure to have my first pint here.
