I wanted to pick up a couple of pierogies for Christmas Eve and didn't want to drive into Philly so I took a look around to see if there was somewhere near by. I found White Eagles Food on Yelp, just changed over from Masonville Deli, and they were nicely tucked into the corner of a small shopping center. There was ample parking and easy enough to spot their sign. Tiny little store, clean and easy to navigate. Freezer/ fridge to the left, all pierogies, labeled. I picked up potato cheddar for Christmas eve and cheesesteak for a later day to enjoy. 6 or 7 in each container, about 8 bucks ea container, is maybe a dollar more than Philly, but they are HUGE. These puppies had weight to them. Only saw 2 babkas when I was in, but I didn't need any that day and a deli case with all the sausage, kielbasa goodness. I tested out a cheesesteak when I got home because I was already famished. 2 filled me up. More like cheeseburger but so damn good!! So I had very high hopes for the potato cheddar. Here's the funny part; got to my cousins for Christmas eve, got to cooking, loaded our plates up. My mom took one, said it was sauerkraut. And then my cousin, same thing! But mine, mine happened to be the potato cheddar lol. They loved the sauerkraut ones and the potato cheddar was absolutely amazing. We had cooked one more, I poked it, kraut. We had 2 left that we didn't cook and I was fingers crossing that they were potato cheddar but they weren't. I did try a kraut one and it is good, my first time trying that kind, but would have loved the actual potato cheddar. Seasoned very well and the dough was just the right thickness. I'll be back for more and hopefully the pierogies won't be mixed up.

Onion and potato pierogi and goblaki.

If you want really good kielbasa and pierogies, go to Swiacki's or in northeast Philly.

I got there 20 minutes after they opened and was the second person in line, 10 minutes later the line was almost out the door. This area in general is so woody and whimsical with a lot of different paths, antique stores and bookstores. The café itself is connected to an antique store and the seating is all refurbished antiques. The ambience and whimsy that this café brings gives me so much joy! The coffee and the donuts that they had were absolutely incredible. I had a hot tiramisu latte and I ended up getting six donuts for a Mother's Day celebration. The donuts were fluffy, steamy and freshly made. I usually am not a cooked fruit person, but the way that they incorporated the fruits in all of these pastries was absolutely divine. The coffee had the perfect balance of sweetness to the boldness of espresso. And with your drink sweet treats, you can take a walk around the little town and enjoy the weather and the scenery. 10/10 experience. I will be back here again to try their savory options and some other pastries!

I ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee and a cold brew. The cold brew had no body to it. Felt very watery. The Vietnamese coffee was also watery, the sweetened condensed milk was floating around in chunks. It didn't mix well. Grabbed a plain bohemian donut too. It was a bit stale, basically bread dusted with sugar. Staff was nice though, and the food looked pretty good. Maybe this is more of a brunch spot than a grab and go coffee shop.

Both of us love kielbasa and pierogies so when my wife found a write-up about this place she was sold. Luckily we took an Uber because we never would have found this place on our own. Little place in the middle of a neighborhood and when we got out of the car the aroma was enough to bring us in. They make the most of their space so expect to be close to other tables if you come here. Certainly not the place to come for private conversations. It was 100% what I would have expected for this kind of local Philly neighborhood place. Our server was awesome as she helped us with the menu and made great suggestions. We started with a couple drinks (cannot remember which ones) and bread with a whipped cream cheese/butter concoction with cracklings mixed in (OMG just THIS was worth the Uber ride). We started with the Kielbasa appetizer (kiełbasapork shoulder, coriander, marjoram) with pickles. The pickles were so good we found out where they got them and bought some the next day and the kielbasa was amazing. For dinner we ordered two beers and for our meals we got the Pierogi Ruskiepotato, farmer cheese, caramelized onion, sour cream, the Pierogi Z Grzybamimycopolitan mushrooms, buttermilk ranch and the Wieprzowina Z Rożnarotisserie pork, herb potatoes, bigos. The pierogi both had really deep flavors and were excellent. The mushroom pierogi had a consistency and flavor that made it seem like a ground meat rather than mushrooms. The rotisserie pork was perfection on a plate. Full of flavor and very rich. We had leftovers, but wanted it that way!! We saved enough room for dessert and ordered the Szarlotkaapple hand pie, black walnut streusel, cultured ice cream, Sernikspiced honey cheesecake, rye crust, whey caramel and a flight of three Polish liqueurs - Nalewka Domowa - we tried the blackberry, cantaloupe, and krupnik. The dessert was flaky and not too sweet, but the ice cream added the right amount of sweetness. The cheesecake was also very good and not overly sweet. The liquors were really flavorful and something I'd never tried before. I was expecting something like a brandy but it was a lighter consistency-very good. If you're in Philly and want an amazing meal with great service - Little Walter's is a must-try!

You may have to fold your mirrors in to hit cars, I'm not exaggerating. I had envisioned a larger restaurant but this was small with maybe 7 tables. We sat at one with padded wooden benches that was comfortable. We were the only customers when arrived for lunch. The menu is limited and the waitress was as authentic as the food. There were some lunch specials posted but we opted to try three things: mushroom cheese bread, potato pancakes and the blueberry pierogies. The pierogies were definitely handmade and on the larger side as soon as you cut it open, the blueberries rushed out. There was a sweet sugary sauce on the top. That was unexpected. They were served cold and not warm. They were sweet. There were two of us and we each were only able to eat one of the six that came in the order. The mushroom cheese bread was drizzled with ketchup, which was unexpected that cheese was melting and gooey. Our favorite item was definitely the potato pancakes. They were cooked to perfection and the sour cream was the perfect condiment. They do have limited drinks here, including bottled water, cans of Pepsi and diet Pepsi, and some unique bottled drinks like birch water. The biggest drawback for the spot was that I just didn't think it was as clean as I would've liked it to be. It is authentic and as you eat, there is a man in the back that you can see making pierogies by hand. I'm glad that we tried this, but I'm not sure that I would return.

We started off with appetizers- which are really great for sharing- perogies for the Hubby and I had the liver dumpling soup- both were fantastic. Hubby had the German mixed salad with his meal, the special was sausage with both chicken and pork Schnitzel and potatoes, I had the sauerbraten with potatoes and we both had a side of the sauerkraut. We took a To-Go of the stuffed chicken breast with mozzarella and spinach and soup, with broccoli and an order of perogies. 2 Root beers, and he had the apple strudel and I ordered the Bienenstich. Our server was Karen- I want to give a huge thank you to her, she was an absolute delight, sweet, friendly and made sure our dinner was perfect, she is wonderful and next time we come for dinner, we hope she is our waitress. Food was incredible, I have not had "family" style German food in probably 13 years if not longer- I used to eat all the time at Alpine Village in Torrance Ca and at Phoenix Club in Brea Ca- both I was a long time foodie at, and never had a bad meal! It is so great to know that Sebastian's is our new place for delicious German food. Dinner for the 3 was roughly $180.00, but before you say "that's a lot", the food is delicious, the wait staff is amazing and both my husband and I gladly pay good money for fantastic food, like what we had here at Sebastian's.

CASH ONLY CASH ONLY…read moreCASH ONLY CASH ONLY Did I mention CASH ONLY So we are thinking about getting Christmas Eve dinner catered from here, so we tried it out yesterday. There was a decent amount of confusion and dialect disconnect, but I believe they have most of their regular menu available. We also ordered a bunch of different items to taste test and we were extremely happy! Let me get into my issue... At no point until I walked into the restaurant, did they mention cash only, oh and check! They take checks! But they never list if on ther website, or any social media sites. They do not mention it over the phone either... so I walk in expecting to pay with card and wham. CASH ONLY... They do have an ATM on site, but to use it, you need an ATM card or a pin on your CC, which I did not have. My FiL had to meet me half way back with cash so I could pay. I really wish they post it online or somewhere people can see before walking in.... I had half a mind to cancel lol! Well that's my gripe! Ordering food, there was a slight language barrier as well. But all in all, it went OK. The lot needs better lighting and or a sign that points to the main entrance. We walked the wrong way and ended up at tables and chairs in storage.... It is very very very homey inside. Very homey. It feels like Oma's living room. With Hummel and biersteins everywhere, and it mean everywhere! Do not bring young kids here lol! It does look nice though! Must but nightmare to dust... Service is unique, the owner was trying to make small talk, and this is after my cash issue, I was kind of zoned out... also had 2 kids that were surprisingly behaving! I got super lucky with that lol! I was able to pay cash and he threw in a few items for free, he gave me a potato soup and a Rahm sauce. Brought the food home and feasted! I got the triple schnitzel combo with Veal, pork, chicken. All were delicious, I like the brown gravy (which had a nice tang) as well as the Rahm sauce with it. By itself it was good, I think they do it more Italian style with only breadcrumbs and no flour, but it was still good. The Veal was the best, but small! The other 2 were very good! I subbed mash for home fries which had sautéed onions and were a great touch, but it needed salt. The sauce helped! I also got a side or spaetzle, which were good but needed sauce and or salt, and did not have much seasoning. But that is German food... I'm not saying its bland, but its sauce heavy! Perogies were absolutely killer! I want a tray lol! Great filling, super soft, great taste! Wife and FiL had the chicken cordon blue, and they were huge!!! They were delicious, but even better with the Rahm sauce. I need a gallon of it lol! Wife liked the Red cabbage, I enjoyed it as well, great flavor. I personally like it sweeter. FiL had the mash and like it. I also got Linzer Tarts which disappeared very quickly lol! Everyone enjoyed them! All in all a great meal, I wish they'd let you know cash only... we look forward to getting catering on Christmas Eve!
