Really disappointing last couple visits, one dine-in order that I abandoned when it became clear that the team were in the weeds and had no urgency to get out of them. The second time, more recently, I waited 15 minutes in drive because they failed to move up the bottleneck passenger ahead of me and handle my small order. Very poorly run location. There was a time about 25 years ago, when I used to close down bars more often, that our local White Castle would see me after 2 am. That was a long time ago. I no longer have a White Castle near me in Philly. So when I passed this one on a recent stop in Allentown, I got really curious. I mean, I'm probably not going to tell you anything new here. It had at least a 20 minute wait at the drive thru on a Saturday at 4 pm, so some people must still love it. These burgers haven't changed since I used to have them. I'm not even sure why I liked them. It's kind of mushy. It needs to be a double to even have any flavor. But I found myself oddly comforted by having one. My son liked the chicken rings. Those are still a favorite of mine as I tasted one. I tried the clam strips just for the heck of it and I'm not sure I'm going to do that again. I have no idea why they are still popular. Warning, the people who work at this particular White Castle hamburger restaurant, don't really care about quality or service or getting your order correct! Road trip pit stop! I was starving and in search of the nearest Chipotle when we drove past this gem. Being a pescatarian, food options while on road trips can become a challenge, however I was happily surprised to learn that White Castle has a wide ranging selection of sandwiches. They have black bean veggie burgers! They are great, but don't include any toppings so be sure to add those. Additionally, they have crab cake burgers, traditional and fish. The food was good. Fries were hot and crunchy. We ordered one regular and one cheese. Service was friendly and the line moved quickly. All in all not bad. read more

Five stars for the impossible sliders; 1 star for how slow this place is. Been to this location twice, 6 months apart and both times at the drive thru the wait was more than 10 minutes. If they got the wait fixed, I would go more often. The sliders were well cooked, the fries tasty and the people who work there are nice but it's just so slow. It is also in a strange location next to a Home Depot but there is a light at the intersection making it easy to get in and out. read more

The "murder burgers" have been a staple in my life since childhood. So when I had the opportunity to visit White Castle while driving through PA was a treat. My last trip, I ordered 50 white castle hamburgers and cheeseburgers. Nothing big but good. In PA, the menu expanded to include chicken and waffles, chicken rings, bacon cheese and cheddar cheese burgers. A large menu--hope it serves them well. I just wanted my burgers and cheese burgers. We settled on a case 10 bacon cheese, 10 cheese, and 10 hamburgers. Not enough. But great. I also ordered the chicken and waffle--too different. Sit down and let me tell you a tale, about a friend and mines own personal nightmare as we recreated the stupidity and bro-trip atmosphere of Harold & Kumar. Was a few years back now, 2014, drove all the way up to East Straudsburg to attend a PPODs (Pocono Parents of Down Syndrome, and don't worry i will explain why) event. We almost died like 3 times from reckless drivers, and twice from environmental hazards as his dopey GPS took us up and down every side road and mountain pass humanly possible- Was nice to see a rock-slide in person though. Being that we were going to be so far away from home (NE Philly for me, Fairless Hills for him) and that's just about the only white-castle in this half of PA (God we should have gone to jersey) we decided grabbing some white-castle for the first time after the little road trip was a fantastic idea. Event was a bust, girl my bro was visiting was super awkward and disinterested, drive from the event was a traffic filled crawl, and our sweet, sweet salvation of hyped burger glory was an unfathomably terrible disappointment. I'm not a picky eater, I also have a cast iron stomach, I've accidentally'd myself into food poisoning 9 times in the 25 years I've been kicking along, but both of us were in gastronomic distress the entire ride back. You cant begin to comprehend my confusion at how many things could go wrong with a meal, everything, i mean, everything, was terrible- except order accuracy, we got exactly what we ordered, slowly granted, but it was just atrocious. Chicken rings tasted like hand lotion (and believe me i know what lotion tastes like) fries were freezer-burnt (All too familiar with that taste) cardboard, and not even salted to add insult to injury. Burgers came out tasting like the meat had been starting to spoil (Again, not proud to admit it, but I've been there too, recognize the taste). Even the fountain soda managed to disappoint being far more seltzer than syrup. Hands down one of the worst experience's I've had with food from a restaurant. I truly struggled with rating this White Castle as 3 stars or 4 stars. I think the current 3.5 Yelp rating is pretty spot-on. But aince you are not allowed to pick half-stars, I had to pick 3 or 4. And I chose 4. First, let me give a quick rundown of the pros and cons... PROS: 1) Whitecastle burgers. Oh so tasty. Need I say more? 2) The staff has always been very, very polite and professional. They get that food jiffy quick, which is what I like since I am hungry. 3) Whitecastle is the stuff of legends. To say you ate here gives you street cred. CONS: 1) The bottom buns tend to be soggy. 2) Compared to other burger chains, you pay more here for a slider combo meal than you do at McDonald's for a McPick 2-for-$5 deal. 3) The tables could be cleaned more often. I have waited a long time to actually try a White Castle. I have passed this place many times in my travels, but decided to get a meal to go on the way back home after a trip to Philadelphia. The experience was pretty horrible regarding the clientele, the food was slightly better than the frozen food selections you can pick up at any grocery store but the best part was the staff. 1st) we pull in the parking lot and a full blown verbal domestic is going down. 2nd) we walk into the restaurant and the male in the domestic beats us to the counter orders a ton of food changing his order a few times pays then goes outside 3rd) we tell the staff we have an internet order and they tell us it will be a few minutes and offer us free drinks while we wait. They couldn't be more accommodating. 4th) the male returns loosing his mind because they "messed up" his order because one thing was wrong. 5th) we get our to go order with the manager apologizing and people who were waiting start uttering profanities because we got our food first. The staff is all first rate and I just wish this place was in a better location because I'll never return based off this experience.
