As White Castle locations have become scarce, once I realized I was close by, it was a no brainer, for me to visit. As I began to place my order, I noticed some coupons on the counter. I asked the cashier if I could have one, but she told me I had to make a purchase first and it would be in the bag. However, I said well I could just buy one item and then you'd still have to give me the coupons. I don't think she cared for my statement and told me "it didn't work that way" Nonetheless, I placed my order and left. It was the standard fare and what I would have expected. The love and nostalgia my family has for White Castle predates my birth. As a boy growing up in the Bronx, my dad was taken by his grandfather and my dad has carried on that tradition by taking my brother and I anytime we visit New York. But I'll be honest, anytime I am anywhere that has a White Castle, I insist on going for those delicious little steamed sliders. But having it in the Bronx with my dad and brother is truly the best. While the menu has definitely diversified throughout the years, I always just want the original sliders, no cheese, and fries or onion rings if they got it. I personally think the onion rings are better than the fries and I like the zesty zing sauce they come with. Also gotta get a soda which now is generally from a freestyle machine so the world is your oyster. I applaud that they have added fish sliders, vegetarian impossible sliders, and some other variations of their burger sliders as well as breakfast to make it more inclusive for all types and times. However, I grew up on the classics and that's what I always want. Us three can crush some sliders so we usually get a Crave Case (30 sliders) or Clutch (20 sliders) and the large sacks of sides. These sliders just melt in your mouth, you honestly don't really even need to chew, in a good way. It's simple eats with a pickle, ketchup, and the yummy grilled onions which add so much to flavor. I know some of it is family nostalgia, but I just love 'em. Also most locations are open 24/7 and this is a meal that definitely won't break the bank. Get some for a snack, late night snack, or quick meal. I wish wish they had one closer to home, but then perhaps it wouldn't stay as special. One of the slowest WC that I have ever been to, I would say proceed with caution when coming here. I know the wait is usually a long time Almost 20 to 30 mins for something simple like burgers only. Usually only come here when I am intoxicated and pretty drunk so I guess the waiting in line goes by at a reasonable time. A lot of UBER or Doordash people are there waiting for their orders and are just overall in a bad mood. Kind of fucked up to have people wait this long for their food but maybe there are not as many workers actually working here compared to let say 4 or 5 years ago. read more

True story. Mitchel S who reviewed below is my Dad, and we go to this White Castle every time we visit New York together. I also have very fond memories of these places, this one in particular of course, but they were as much a part of my early upbringing as they were his. When I was very young, he promised me I could have a White Castle slider for every year old I was. He clearly didn't think about the fact that one day I would be an adult, and he could be buying entire cases of hamburgers to fulfill his promise. That said, I took pity on him this trip, and did NOT make him buy 3 dozen hamburgers. In fact, I paid for everything. There were 4 of us, and we all just went in on what was clearly designed to be a meal for 4. 20 sliders, 4 orders of fries or onion rings, and 4 drinks. Gotta say, this location really seemed to have their act together. The service was very cordial, and the place was clean. There was a mess made in front of the drink machine, and they came right out to mop it up. Our order came out so fresh and hot, and as a result, the sliders were some of the best we could ever remember. Unlike him, I do like cheese on a few of my sliders, but I was so satisfied with the burgers we were given, I did not go back to order more with cheese. These were perfect. The onion rings were perfectly fried, and washing it all down with a Coke w/ lime from the freestyle machine just made it one of the more memorable trips for some White Castle burgers. It's 1962. Mom packs me and my brothers into our old station wagon and we head up Allerton Avenue to White Castle. It's the only restaurant my mom can afford. She's raising three boys on her own and women's wages are pathetic, but somehow she musters up enough money. The appealing waiter or waitress comes to our car in their crisp blue and white outfit and cap, take our order and return with a tray full of everything we could ever want. Mom rolls down the window half way and the server deposits the tray on the window top. Twelve whities, french fries and coke. Mom being the WC "snob" that she was lol hated those things and would only order a cup of black coffee. Once in a blue moon she would break down and get a fried fish sandwich but she would not under any circumstances touch those little brown hamburgers. My brothers and I on the other hand went out of our freaking minds and attacked with a vengeance until every morsel, every onion bit, every fry, every ounce of coke was devoured. It is 1972 and I am attending Lehman College in the Bronx and President of the Musical Theater Society, an on campus organization that puts on shows at the theater. Rehearsals end at midnight and we all pile into a couple of cars and drive to the White Castle on Fordham Road for murder burgers at 2:00 a.m. Our eyes are red and our mind is God knows where but somehow we find the White Castle and eat until we can eat no more. It is 1988, Susan and I are married and there is a White Castle right down the road from our home in Rutherford New Jersey!!! I throw my kids, Erik and Devon in the back, just the way my mom threw us in the back and we head on over to the infamous White Castle. The days of curbside service with waiters and waitresses in uniforms are long gone but we don't mind hanging out inside and smelling that delicious aroma of grilled onions awaiting our order. I promised Erik as a little boy that I would buy him as many White Castles as was his age. He never forgot that! So he had four when he was four and five when he was five and six when he was six. Thank God we moved to North Carolina and broke that tradition. He would be getting dozens of them this August and Devon and I would be right there with him to polish them off! It's 2021 and I'm visiting Amy and her family in the Bronx and her daughter Emily and her husband Max arrive with a case full of White Castles just for me. Amy and I later take a ride through our old neighborhood and of course have to stop by the OG White Castle that mom used to take me as a kid. I have dined in the finest restaurants in New York. I have had incredible dinners in Marrakesh Morocco, Rome Italy, Santa Marta Colombia and Bangkok Thailand, but nothing will ever compare to the taste of a fresh off the grill White Castle hamburger. No cheese just straight. I drink my coffee every morning out of my White Castle mug, proudly wear my White Castle t-shirt, hang my most important items on the fridge with my White Castle magnet and even have a White Castle Hanukkah mug with my face on it! So now you know. Please don't judge me. If you ever had a White Castle hamburger and have any taste at all, I'm sure you understand!!! About 10 years ago I swore off most fast food, though I still go to places like Shake Shack, Five Guys, In-N-Out, and Bareburger - for me they're on a different level but I guess they're fast food in their own way. Anyway, one fast food chain I still occasionally eat at is White Castle. There's just something about those burgers; I'm not sure if it's the size, the taste, or the grease, but they're a special treat that I indulge in once every few years. I remember watching Harold & Kumar for the first time in college and being the envy of my friends from Upstate NY since I had Castles where I lived and they did not. The other night I was craving those little burgers so I decided to take a quick trip to my local White Castle for a fix. There are a few Castles in the Bronx, but this one at the cross of Boston Rd and Allerton Ave is the one closest to where I grew up. In terms of selection, it's pretty on par with other Castles: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken rings, onion rings, fries, etc. For me, though, what makes this location exceptional is the fact that they've never gotten my order wrong. When you're dealing with sliders and multiple sides with different sizes, you can imagine it's easy to slip up. However, the staff here do a great job and have always been very thorough. While there's always a bit of a wait at the drive-thru, it's worth it because you're gonna feed your White Castle cravings while also getting a correct order. While I don't eat these little burgers often, it's nice to know that I have a solid branch close-by. read more

Honestly I never do reviews but today I went through the drive thru and got an impossible burger with my order. Impossible burgers usually take a bit longer to make so I knew I had to wait for a while. The young A.A lady at the window informed me about the wait. Not only did the lady switch her order taking speed to "Turbo" but she was spot on with any small detail on my order and there was a lot! The sliders were great! Very clean as well I think the employees thought we were so ridiculous when we asked how much a crave case of chicken ring sandwiches would be, but we ended up settling for a lesser amount. Waited on the drive thru line for over 45 minutes. When I got to the pick-up window, I realized that for at least 3 cars behind us, the staff was fulfilling their orders through the payment window, which was now behind us. When I complained about this I was told that the people behind me had smaller orders and therefore they felt it was OK to serve them first. I'm angry that there was no point in waiting on line if the staff is just going to pick and choose who they want to service first. They intentionally made me wait longer by giving the sliders that should have been ours to the people behind us. This needs to stop. People on the drive up line should be served in order! read more

This is a super friendly senior laden White Castle. It is extremely clean. The female staff are quick, personable, and efficient. The line moves rapidly. During the day visiting nurses bring their patients into the dining room, sit them down, and order for the two. Still the service is quick. The Strawberry Banana smoothie is thick. The burgers are yummy. The restrooms are definitely cleaned by the hour. This is my fave location. read more

wow this square white cube like of a castle brings back many fond memories of my youth and it was all fun.i am kinda surprise that there is only a few reviews, this place has been around a long time, come on fellow yelpers. before i start my review, a little history of this white castle located on corner of boston rd and allerton ave. this place was a hangout for the locals in the area, before the drive thru , a bunch of picnic style seating was the place to meet on the weekends and the summer evenings, the place was and still open 24/7 ,so hanging out till the sun starting to creep up was not unsual. now as time when on a drive thru was born and less and less outdoor seating until it was all gone and no more hanging out, now for the present , the castle it still around and its only drive thru for me, inside, the joint has not seen me in years. i still have the craving and its tonight, a few white castles, a few veggie burger, some chicken sandwiches, some onion rings , dont forget the chicken rings, the fries ( so so), and a bunch of other combo sliders, plus the shakes are thick and rich, better then mcdonalds. the castle also now serve breakfast and its not half bad, the egg slider combos are yummy and the hash brown nibblers and french toast sticks are decent as well, plus you can even get eggs on toast (cool). check online for extensive menu. the staff are very friendly and quick, the drive thru line was moving quickly and no mistake on my food order, its been a long time since i went inside so i took a quick look inside and its smaller then i remembered, less seating area , but ordering line has more room then before. i ordered my classic favorite, 8 white castles and a vanilla shake with a diet coke( yep) and i enjoyed every bite and sip. i am well aware i cant go back in time, but whenever i get the craving i visit a white castle and it does take me back to my youth and thats good enough for me . p.s. still the best deal in fast food grub price wise. read more
