I was having a horrible time with some plantar fasciitis, to the point that I could not walk on it…read moreall for intermittent periods of time. I spent quite a bit of time researching podiatrists in Tucson because I didn't want to waste my time with ineffective treatments, and ended up landing with Dr. Bocian. I chose him primarily because I knew he works with the UofA on leading edge research efforts, specifically with a YAG laser that seems to be the most effective treatment one could find. This turned out to be exactly the right answer because he is exactly what every person would be looking for in a doctor. His office is actually a 45 minute drive for me, but it's worth every minute because he is personable and the most knowledgeable podiatrist in Tucson. I went in and his office staff was completely professional and friendly. Checked me in and got me right back, and Dr. Bocian came right in and began the evaluation. I explained what was going on - sharp pain spiking the bottom of my foot especially when I get out of bed in the morning - and he agreed it sounded like plantar fasciitis. He got out a sonogram-type imager and took a look inside my foot. He first showed me on the monitor what a healthy plantar fascia looks like with that machine, then what plantar fasciitis looks like, and then mine - the latter two looking almost identical. He then clearly explained what plantar fasciitis is and the available courses of treatment. He gave me a cortizone shot to help with immediate pain, but explained that was only temporary. I got a list of some exercises to do and a special compression sock, and we agreed if those didn't help, the next step up would be some custom orthopedic inserts. If that didn't work, the final step would be treatments with his YAG laser. I went a couple weeks with no relief from the exercises, so I went back and got the custom inserts. The way they make those was pretty cool - his assistant comes in with a calibrated metal frame that you put your foot in, and then she scans your foot with something resembling an iPad. She showed me the final scan, which was a detailed 3-D depiction of my foot with precise measurement. This was quite a bit easier and faster than dropping my foot in a bucket of plaster. I got my inserts a few days later, and the relief came within a week of me wearing them. This was 4-5 months ago, and I think I can safely say now the inserts cured my plantar fasciitis, as I have no issues getting out of bed, playing volleyball, playing basketball, or anything else that used to be debilitatingly painful. If you're having any kind of problem similar to what I had, I cannot give Dr. Bocian a high enough recommendation, as he got my life back on track. Someone I respect told me not to ever leave a review without including at least one negative thing, so I will point out that the office was playing horrible country music when I was in there ;). Other than that, as many stars as possible. Thank you so much Dr. Bocian!

I suspected it was…read moreprobably plantar fasciitis but unfortunately had let it get to the point where all I could do was kind of hobble around. I was able to get an appointment pretty quickly, within a few days with Dr. Carrie Hess. Upon arriving the staff were quick to help me check in and were very friendly as I waited for the doctor. Doctor Hess pretty immediately let me know it was most likely plantar fasciitis because of the area where I was experiencing the pain. She did offer to take x-rays to confirm it wasn't anything else but they can't really see much on the x-ray besides a bone spur, which was actually kind of interesting to find out. She suggested a steroid shot and we were able to do it that day pretty quickly. It wasn't too painful but there was a little pinch. I was a little surprised she didn't give me more in terms of a treatment plan, but I think that she may have just expected that I kind of knew what to do after. She did say, if the pain reoccurs to return but I wasn't really sure what to do to prevent this from happening again. Luckily, I haven't had much pain. The morning after was the first time in months I'd woken up and not had to hobble around my house in pain. Thank you!

Dr. Nguyen was able to see me on short notice while I was traveling, and I'm so grateful she did. She performed a thorough examination, accurately identified the source of my pain, and carefully explained all of my treatment options, including what to realistically expect if I chose an injection. I was very nervous, but her calm demeanor, confidence, and precise technique immediately put me at ease. I felt about 70% better immediately after the injection, and within a few weeks my pain had improved by about 90%. Combined with the stretching exercises she recommended, I'm now essentially pain-free. What impressed me most was that Dr. Nguyen genuinely cared about helping me recover. She took the time to educate me, answered all my questions, and recommended what was best for my condition without any pressure. I highly recommend Dr. Nguyen to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate, and highly skilled podiatrist.

I think I will go ahead and get surgery from him, I trust him and feel he knows his stuff. He is a slim man with some gray in his wavy hair, probably in his 50s. He mentioned his wife and kids as examples of foot situations, which I like to hear, to know he is a real person with a family..
