I recently attended a wedding ceremony that was held at the Whistle Bear Golf Club's Forestview Room on the second floor. The venue lends very well to weddings as the room itself has an open airy feel with high ceilings, exposed white wooden beams with numerous crystal chandeliers, bar area, and spacious dance floor. The cocktail hour was held on the sizeable deck area. It was a beautiful space on which guests could enjoy some of the passed appetizers and signature cocktails (including grapefruit bellinis and mixed berry sangrias). Appetizers passed around were tasty and included skewers of shrimp with olive and sausage, spherical fish cakes, mini salmon poke bowls, Italian sausage caprese skewers, and mini spoons of shredded apples and dried cranberries. Dinner itself consisted of a 3 course meal. The food was nicely presented. The meal began with tableside soup service where hot soup was poured over plated soup garnishes of roasted pumpkin seeds and root vegetable chips. The prime rib was served in one's choice of medium rare or well done. The beef was tender and served with red wine jus, roasted carrots, steamed broccoli and creamy mashed potatoes. The salmon was a little overcooked for my liking. The dessert was a delicious rich chocolate brownie with roasted marshmallow and topped with chocolate chip ice cream. When hubby and I walked around the grounds of the venue, we noted there is a lovely private covered ceremony space complete with folding white chairs and a lovely glass barn style sliding door. Our friends who got married were able to have their wedding photos taken on the golf club grounds and utilized the golf carts to get around. Washrooms were clean and easily accessible from the Forestview room. The room itself can also be accessed by elevator for those unable to climb the stairs. Overall the experience of attending a wedding at this venue was a positive one. It is fairly far for those coming from Toronto but makes for a lovely getaway to the Cambridge area. read more

Attended this venue for a company party--20 minutes from Waterloo. Around this time was -30°C in early January. Good - Pretty decor and spacious room - Salmon cooked nicely (though a tad bit overcooked), but mashed potatoes were very good - Staff were friendly and approachable Bad - Beef (not depicted here) tasted overcooked and tough. - Room was uncomfortably cold even after bringing it up to the staff a couple of times. They kept the temperature at 18°C with fan on which was freezing considering how cold it was outside. Then they said they would do something, but that only meant turning off the fan but keeping it at 18°C. It wasn't until a guest of the party adjusted it to a more agreeable temperature of 21°C that it became more bearable. Then 20 minutes in, it grew colder again because someone fudged with the thermostat again and brought it back to 18°C. I understand that the venue is trying to bring costs down, but it was was stupid cold inside--shocking to see that even the staff working in the lobby had their winter jackets and mittens on. That's a call for a safety hazard. Anyway, it would had been a 3/5 had the temperature issue been properly addressed. read more

This review is for an experience at a wedding I attended in early summer, in Forestview Room at Whistle Bear Golf Club. Since Whistle Bear contracts out to Pearle Weddings & Events, I guess they are both implicated. We had a very tasty dinner, with several courses, and great service during the meal. The problem started upon our return to our table, after going outside on the veranda to view the lovely grounds. All of our personal wedding favours were discarded from our table. They were hand made by the bride & groom, and personalized for each guest. I had 2 extras to take home to the grandparents of the bride, who could not attend because of the grandpa's terrible fall the morning we had set out to travel. We thought it would make a lovely souvenir for them. When I approached a head server and explained this (she was putting out the late night buffet) she was rude and dismissive: "I could go rooting through the garbage, but I'm not going to do that". She never even made a pretence of going back to the kitchen for any reprimanding of the serve staff. She simply didn't care. We left very upset, after what was a lovely ceremony & dinner. People (servers in this case) make mistakes, I get that. What I don't understand, is how we were treated when this oversight was made. We returned home empty handed. Upon our return, I called Whistle Bear Golf Club to explain what had happened. I was given a name to call, Kristen, who was to deal with the situation. She said she understood , and wanted to make amends by offering us a gift certificate for a nice dinner out, with my choice of restaurant. That would've been fair, if I'd actually received it. After several reminder calls and texts, Kirsten said I "fell off her radar". Finally, 4 months later, I received a paltry amount in a generic gift card that would not have paid for a nice dinner with a drink at Kelsey's or East Side Mario's. I was insulted. I can't believe how this service industry fell well below standards in dealing with this situation. The star rating in this situation is ambiguous. I was a 23 year old male powerlifter and athlete in fantastic health BEFORE I tried a one hour training session at Whistle Bear Golf Performance Centre. Earlier this summer I decided to seek professional help in improving my golf game and was referred to Theresa McDermott at the Golf Performance Centre. During my first and only session on July 21st with Theresa I was instructed to bend my back knee inwards while applying my bodyweight on the leg. This movement was counter intuitive to what I had learned in my other athletic experience, but I was reassured it was safe to do and was told "this is not weightlifting" when I voiced my concern. Since July 21st my knee has been in almost constant pain. Simple tasks such as walking and standing are hard to do for long periods of time (never less weightlifting and exercise). Today on September 23rd I was informed by my MD that the pain I am feeling in my knee is caused by a torn meniscus which will require surgery and physiotherapy and may never function the same again. BE CAREFUL with taking advice from these "coaches" this poor instruction cost me a lot more than the hourly rate. *** One star because Yelp does not have a -value option. *** read more

Was there as a guest this past weekend for a wedding. Although the venue is relatively picturesque, and it does have some frilly incentives: drop chandelier lighting, baroque style chairs instead of the standard banquet chairs, etc... none of this can mask how this venue and it's staff were absolutely disrespectful and disregarding of guests and especially a pregnant vendor! I could NOT believe my eyes and ears. This poor vendor was in the midst of making a delivery, when they were told (rather rudely) to move their vehicle from where it was currently parked. Upon further inspection on my part, no where on the premises are there signs suggesting that vendors must use the public parking when making deliveries - nor was this vendor informed by the staff that parking at the front of the building was not allowed. In addition to this, the staff or Event Coordinator had berated this vendor right in front of other guests! How absolutely rude and unprofessional. As a vendor myself, I would be appalled by such treatment. As if to foreshadow things to come, the food was mediocre, drink selection were slim to none and like I said, the staff were disgraceful. I should hope that others fair much better than what I witnessed on Saturday! I would NEVER recommend this venue to any of my clients. Be wary when selecting your venue!
