Whistle Bear Golf Club - Beautiful venue!

The venue lends very well to weddings as the room itself has an open airy feel with high ceilings, exposed white wooden beams with numerous crystal chandeliers, bar area, and spacious dance floor. The cocktail hour was held on the sizeable deck area. It was a beautiful space on which guests could enjoy some of the passed appetizers and signature cocktails (including grapefruit bellinis and mixed berry sangrias). Appetizers passed around were tasty and included skewers of shrimp with olive and sausage, spherical fish cakes, mini salmon poke bowls, Italian sausage caprese skewers, and mini spoons of shredded apples and dried cranberries. Dinner itself consisted of a 3 course meal. The food was nicely presented. The meal began with tableside soup service where hot soup was poured over plated soup garnishes of roasted pumpkin seeds and root vegetable chips. The prime rib was served in one's choice of medium rare or well done. The beef was tender and served with red wine jus, roasted carrots, steamed broccoli and creamy mashed potatoes. The salmon was a little overcooked for my liking. The dessert was a delicious rich chocolate brownie with roasted marshmallow and topped with chocolate chip ice cream. When hubby and I walked around the grounds of the venue, we noted there is a lovely private covered ceremony space complete with folding white chairs and a lovely glass barn style sliding door. Our friends who got married were able to have their wedding photos taken on the golf club grounds and utilized the golf carts to get around. Washrooms were clean and easily accessible from the Forestview room. The room itself can also be accessed by elevator for those unable to climb the stairs. Overall the experience of attending a wedding at this venue was a positive one. It is fairly far for those coming from Toronto but makes for a lovely getaway to the Cambridge area.

Good - Pretty decor and spacious room - Salmon cooked nicely (though a tad bit overcooked), but mashed potatoes were very good - Staff were friendly and approachable Bad - Beef (not depicted here) tasted overcooked and tough. - Room was uncomfortably cold even after bringing it up to the staff a couple of times. They kept the temperature at 18°C with fan on which was freezing considering how cold it was outside. Then they said they would do something, but that only meant turning off the fan but keeping it at 18°C. It wasn't until a guest of the party adjusted it to a more agreeable temperature of 21°C that it became more bearable. Then 20 minutes in, it grew colder again because someone fudged with the thermostat again and brought it back to 18°C. I understand that the venue is trying to bring costs down, but it was was stupid cold inside--shocking to see that even the staff working in the lobby had their winter jackets and mittens on. That's a call for a safety hazard. Anyway, it would had been a 3/5 had the temperature issue been properly addressed.

Grey Silo is a nice and well-maintained golf course in the Waterloo region. I was there on August 6…read more(long weekend). As you know, when it rains, it pours. We had unfortunately bailed on our last 4 holes. Despite the rain tap-dancing around, the course had no swampy mud pits and was well-kept. I like that they have a putting and chipping area around the clubhouse so you can practice before your game. One side of the out-of-bounds area is a no-go natural zone. RIP to my many lost newbie balls that found their forever home there. Prior to starting, we ordered the avocado BLT wrap and it's pretty fresh and tasty with ample bacon without breaking the bank. Service is also excellent as well. They paired us up with a father daughter duo. Despite being stacked back to back with a group ahead and behind us, everyone played reasonably quickly through the course. We were in golf carts and I highly recommend it as opposed to walking it. Some groups are playing here to practice in preparation for an upcoming tournament. Oh, and bonus, a deer decided to crash our party and chose the middle of the course as their runway.

Staff was friendly and helpful. It's a little weird having to share the cart path with joggers and hikers on a couple of the holes however. But nothing to mark the course down for. Would definitely return to play again.
