Whisk is simply one of the best lunch/bakery/catering places you will find in the Ohio Valley. We eat there almost weekly for lunch (and of course to grab a couple flavors of cupcakes to try!), have used them many many times to cater small events (bridal showers, birthdays, etc) and recently asked them if they could make cupcakes for the cookie table for our wedding! I think the total came out to just shy of 500 mini-cupcakes in 5 different flavors... They were all beautiful (photo credit: Hannah Barlow Photography) and absolutely DELICIOUS! We were worried with all the cupcakes and cookies from friends that we would have a ton of leftovers, but those cupcakes went FAST! We can't thank or recommend them highly enough, they are the best! UPDATED REVIEW: Ordered a round tier cake for a family celebration. Icing flowers on top were beautiful but icing on the side was a combination of too many colors and some bare brown spots(side colors weren't requested but would have been fine if it would have looked better). Buttercream icing tasted delicious however it was too thick and looked like it was used to fill where the top tier was slanted equaling too much icing and not enough cake. The cake tasted good but not great because the texture was too airy, very crumbly, and lacked some in flavor. Overall my opinion is that it tasted better than some cakes made from a box and even some grocery store cakes but it left a lot to be desired as bakery cake made from scratch. Additionally, I ordered a dozen mixed berry scones. These scones did not taste as good as the scones I ordered from Whisk a couple years ago. I nuked them to soften and warm but unfortunately the mixed berries were hardly tasted or seen and a flour type taste overwhelmed my palate. read more

I stopped in last week for the first time after hearing great things. I ordered one of every cupcake, just because they looked delicious. Let me tell you, the vanilla cupcake was probably the best cupcake I've ever eaten. The frosting was to die for and the actual cupcake was moist and full of vanilla flavor! My only negative comment would be that the staff could have been a little more friendly and at least acknowledge the customers walking in rather than stare them down. I've gone from 3...to 4(ish) stars...but now I think I need to make it 5. It's really still more like 4.5 because of the occasional dried out item, and to me, $3 is still a bit steep. But here's the thing--I've been many other places who also charge that much, and aren't NEARLY the quality of whisk. I literally think about these cupcakes when I don't have them! They are that good. Had a gluten-free cake ordered for my Birthday. It was decorated beautifully!!! Needless to say I couldn't wait to dig in. Unfortunately, the cake was DRY. So dry, my birthday guests asked to use my Microwave to heat it up a bit to soften it. Yikes! For the money, I really expected a higher quality cake. My mother got a cake for her 80th birthday, which I couldn't attend. A family member got her a cake from Whisk's and she has been "raving" about how good her cake is, she absolutely loved it! First off, the quality of food that whisk does is really good and I have never been disappointed by that. Why 2 stars, then? I would have given 5 stars before whisk catered my wedding reception. There was an endless amount of chaos that had to be overcome, lara is scattered. It required constant attention from us to make sure that changes were actually made to the menu and even paying the bill was complicated. We also had to follow up repeatedly for the recommendation of a bartender that was promised to us at our 1dt meeting (though the one we ultimately got was awesome). Then there was the reception. Whisk showed up without the ice they were supposed to be bringing for the bar. The real grievance, though, is that despite 20 people no-showing for the event, we RAN OUT OF FOOD. There were some dishes out before half the guests got to them, too! I am not a caterer, but I am certain that running out of food is one of the cardinal sins of catering. Lara did not even acknowledge this "miscalculation". My sister also had to help cut the cake so that all the flavors went out and slices were appropriate for everyone to get one (bride and groom were never given cake, either which seems poor form, but not a major deal). Coffee pot was small and no plans made to refill it so not enough coffee for guests and lara was shocked that once cake was served, coffee was gone in 10 minutes... I would have assumed this was due to lack of experience with large parties (seems if you lack experience you would make extra food), but we were at another small party recently where the head count given to Lara was larger than the guests who came and once again, food ran out It seems that as time goes on, corners are cut to increase profit and quality of service is decreasing. We wont be using again. In fairness, if you have a small, plated party you will probably be happy. read more

WHISK is something brand new to the Wheeling culinary scene (such as it exists...) - a gourmet bakery! Having had their amazing and creative cupcakes many times at work events and at Avenue Eats (Whisk's sister restaurant, which I highly recommend), I decided a visit to the new shop was in order. First of all, the location (on National Road in Wheeling's Woodsdale neighborhood) is absolutely adorable. Bright, funky, and fun, it features a few dine-in tables and a vibe unlike anything else I've found in Wheeling. More importantly, the baked goods....my husband and I shared two donuts and a cinnamon roll for a bit of Saturday morning gluttony. We suffered from a fair amount of sticker shock when the price for three baked goods rang in just south of $8.00! The donuts were just ok, to say the least. We each had a raised-style donut with chocolate icing and sprinkles. The dough itself was tender, but fairly flavorless, and the frosting tasted a little too much like chocolate syrup for my taste. Definitely not worth recommending or trying again. The cinnamon roll saved the day though, and warrants a return trip (and the high possibility of extra stars with a different menu choice.) It was the best cinnamon roll I've ever had, from the generous cinnamon swirl layer to the just-right frosting. So, so tasty. I recommend skipping the donuts, but in my experience the cupcakes and cinnamon rolls make WHISK well worth a try for a special treat. read more

I recently had a work meeting catered by Whisk and based on the food alone they get four stars from me. The sandwiches and salads were very fresh and extremely tasty! They will be my caterer of choice for future meetings at the office. I withheld a star as I've not physically been to the shop so I have no experience with their service at that location but again, unless it's "really" bad it would not affect my rating since the food is so fabulous! read more
