I bought my professional model flute from Allison and Dane 21 years ago. Allison was patient, showed me several different models, and I came away with a beautiful flute that I still play today. I also bought my professional model piccolo from them. If you are looking for a flute, Allison is your person. She knows the flute as well as anyone I know, and I've been around the block a few times. She will make sure you are fitted with a flute that gives you the kind of response and tone that is best for you, and that will give you many years of pleasure playing. Go for it. read more

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Alison and Dane at Whipkey's Music. I rented a flute from them as an adult beginner and took some lessons by FaceTime. Alison was patient and positive; she's a gifted teacher with an encouraging manner. So after a few months I decided I wanted to stick with the flute, in great part because my cat likes to listen. It's all about the cats, right? So I wanted a nicer flute of my own. Alison had my try many different brands and types of flutes, listening with her experience to zero in on the flute that is just right for me. The process extended over 3 visits and a couple of months. Alison is a zero-pressure salesperson, more of a spirit guide through the world of flute. This is less like a retail experience and more like having a master tailor help to make a perfect suit. Today is New Flute Day. I cannot wait to get home and see if the kitty loves it too! Thank you Alison! read more

I needed a new polishing cloth for my flute and stopped by the store to pick one up. I was initially dismayed because it was an hour before their scheduled opening time, but Allison spotted me at the door and was kind enough to help me purchase what I needed. We also had a really nice conversation about flutes, and I feel pretty confident this would be a great place to buy a new flute with Allison's knowledge and guidance. read more

I bought my first professional Powell flute 5 years ago and their service was amazing! Alison spent time helping me find the perfect combination of headjoint and body. I recently went back to have them look at my flute. It still plays amazing but needed a few minor tweaks...which they were able to do on the spot. If you are a flute player regardless of level...Whipkey's is the place to go and Powell is the flute to get! read more

I purchased a flute for a beginning band student. Flutes happen to be a specialty with Whipkey, but a host of other instruments are also offered. Alison spent quite a bit of time talking to the student, as well as the parent. I loved that she got the child involved - I think it helps to set the stage for the child to fall in love with her instrument. She educated us about flutes and different brands before allowing my child to sample different models. If you are shopping, allow some time, and take advantage of this excellent low key, personal service. They offer used or new instruments, maintenance on site, and lessons. I am very pleased with our experience! read more

I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with Whipkey's Music for many years. Their prices are competitive and their staff is very knowledgeable of the client's needs. They are also highly trained in teaching and instrument repair. For flutists in the greater Atlanta area, there is no question that Whipkey's is the place to go when shopping for a new flute. I tried many Powell flutes from around the country before finding a real gem at Whipkey's. read more

Whipkey's Music - Musical Instruments & Teachers Near Me - Marietta, Georgia

Alison and Dale, Owners of Whipkey's Music, are wonderful people to work with, if you are looking for a new flute, or used flutes too. I heard about Alison through a flutist from the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, who highly recommended Alison's professional knowledge in purchasing a new professional level Powell Flute. Alison gave me her full attention over the phone, which led me to drive to Atlanta when I was ready to test a variety of flutes. She helped me with all aspects of comparing and testing about 6 or so flutes, and a wide array of head joints. I found the one I was looking for and couldn't be happier! Their store a packed with all sorts of instruments and years of history. Dale is a wonderful repair tech and very interesting to chat with too. Thank you, Whipkey's Music! read more

Very unprofessional specially the lady. She told me the instrument that I was renting couldn't be fix and I had to purchased it but my Daughters teacher said the instrument would be able to get fix and gave me a contact, took the instrument and got fix. She is very rude and should not be talking to people. read more

Wish there was a zero star option!!! This store is dirty, smelled terrible and had no instruments on display. The salesperson was rude and refused to show us any instruments without our daughter's teacher present. She wouldn't even tell us what brands they carried. We just got handed a flyer and she sent us on our way. Guess they are not smart enough to realize this type of unprofessionalism costed them the sale of a high end instrument. read more

Not very good. Staff is not friendly. Prices are high. Many better stores in town.

We really enjoyed working with the people here, they took lots of time with us and our daughter to make sure we made a good decision. I know there are other shops in town that may be trendy but these guys really know their instruments and are willing to take the time needed to make the right decision. read more

I wish I didn't have to even give them one star. What a scam and rip-off! I returned my son's trombone rental and was charged $70 for a small dent (it accidentally fell and dented). When I initially rented the instrument I was encouraged to pay for the additional monthly insurance since trombones are fragile. I signed up for it. Yet this is not covered since it does not fall under regular wear and tear. It absolutely does. I will never do business with this store again. read more

We rented a very expensive Saxophone from Whipkey's for a year. When we decided to buy and got a great deal on consignment from another business we encountered the Whipkey Rudeness. The man at Whipkey's said we were rude for not even discussing purchasing options with him. He tried to find a problem with the rental sax we were returning, but fortunately we had documented every scratch and ding. So with that said, I should have known better than to visit them again. They are so convenient to Daniell Middle School that it made sense to check if they could do a minor repair. As soon as my husband mentioned the need for repair the man asked "Where did you get it? You should take it to the place you bought it and walked away." I have learned my lesson...Don't ever go to Whipkey's Music on Canton Hwy. They are rude beyond words. I can't understand how they can even be included on the list of vendors for any middle school in Cobb County. The absolute worst! read more

Warning: Do NOT go here. They will actually try to run a real equifax credit report before they even let you SEE an instrument. The store is filthy and hot and their assessed value of their own merchandise is entirely too high. Very hard to get answers to straight forward, simple questions. Certain staff members were quite rude. read more

Let me start by explaining that generally, people with a passion in the arts aren't good sales people. Please invest in a sales person. Until then, we will not be back. To explain my statement I will share my experience with this store. We came in with my child's school/band supply list. The associate took the list and went back and forth getting the supplies, explaining what it was & how much it was until it got to the most expensive item; the mouth piece. She then began to ring it all up and when I saw the price I told her I wasn't expecting to pay that much money on that one item ($90) and after discussing it I told her to put that back and we would come back to get it if need be. She then got an attitude and said "let's just take back all the expensive items." And took away a $20 item, I laughed at her incompetence and said "okay?" To which she then said "well, what do you want to buy?" It should be obvious that I had only said to take back the one piece, I went ahead and told her to give me the $20 item back and bought the rest of the items on the counter and went to Ken Stanton and found the $90 item for $60 from a guy who seemed like an angel compared to the service at Whipkeys. read more

Horrible experience. The people are extremely rude. Insulted our band instructors direction and our child. Returned trumpet and they accused our child of dropping trumpet and said we had to pay $278.00 to return the trumpet. We had bought the insurance but they said it did not cover it. Therefore, do not buy the insurance and just have it under your home insurance. We had a bad experience when we rented it and almost did not get it-should have gone with our gut. We are now out $278, had to have our intelligence insulted by the sales associate and Mr. Whipkey. Will never come back here and please consider elsewhere so you do not have this experience. Always go with your gut!! read more

First class service. The technician did a great job repairing my flute. Very welcoming and acknowledgeable people.

We came to Whipkey's in the beginning of this school year after my daughter decided to join band at school. We originally went in to rent a clarinet, but after speaking to them, decided to purchase a used Buffet clarinet. It was an older instrument, but very good quality. They were very helpful and assured us that they would provide all maintenance during the school year as well as offer a buy-back policy if she decided not to continue playing. It was more than I wanted to spend at the time considering we had no idea if she'd even enjoy playing, but I figured it was a safe enough investment either way. Sure enough, this month my daughter informed us that she did not want to continue in band after all, and they did buy back at 50% of the purchase price, as promised (a great relief to us as, if we had purchased elsewhere, we would have either had an unused clarinet sitting at home or we would have had to try to sell it ourselves). We also did go in periodically for repairs (e.g., when pads came loose) and they were courteous and made the repairs with a quick turnaround time. With the buy-back policy, we ended up paying less than we would have by renting. We are very pleased, and would not hesitate to recommend to others. read more

This is a scam, take the time to find honest people to work with. We rented a violin for over 2 years. When we went to upgrade they said we had over $470 to spend and said a violin would cost us $350, which included our $470 credit.. So this violin was supposedly $820. I couldn't find the brand online so I couldn't research it. The fact that they were whispering to each other gave me pause. Long story short I found a violin with great reviews with everything I needed for $299. My daughters teacher said it was a good one. So I returned the violin the next week. When they found out that I purchased another violin now all of sudden the violin I was returning was damaged and I needed to pay to have it fixed. There was nothing but normal wear on the violin. We had some words and I ended up having to call the police just to force them to give me a receipt for my return. These are terrible evil people. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of them. read more
