A full blown disagreement/slight argument had begun to break out with the cashier and the customer while we were there...which had us feeling a tad bit uncomfortable. The guy was trying to prove some sort of past purchase in order to get a refund and the cashier couldn't verify something one way or the other...yadda yadda... And so we hurried our visit just to get the hell outta Dodge with all the tension brewing...really to no one's fault. Life happens, disagreements happen. I will say that they had SOME cute things that you could actually USE. Things that were FUNCTIONAL and could come in handy...more than I can say for some other antique shops that do nothing but collect useless, random junk. This is a must visit! The designer has this shop well curated. It's adorable and well thought out. Easy to find things, prices are priced well and in great condition. They owners/designers are amazing and sweet and super friendly. I picked up some frames from the 20's that I love and they gave me a great deal. They have Americana, they have beach they have old west....it's just so so cute. read more

I really enjoyed browsing this antique shop during a trip to Carpinteria. It's definitely true to its description full of all things antique/vintage from clothing, furniture, and art/decor, to typewriters, bottle caps, and old sewing patterns (super cool). Psst...this shop is smaller than the antique shop across the street, but waaaay better in my opinion. There's another location on 7th Ave. as well that I wasn't able to check out which is probably just as amazing. I noticed they had business cards that had a space for a wish list on back. I think you can request that they hunt down your vintage desires. Maybe they'll contact you if they find it. Pretty cool. Prices in here varied. Some things were overpriced and some pretty reasonable. Again, really enjoyed this shop -- the best I've seen actually. Check it out for sure. Customer service was good too. No snobs. read more

This is an incredibly cute store on the cute "main" street in Carpenteria: Linden Avenue. Although I love vintage stuff and I have walked down Linden many times on vacation I'd never entered Whimsy. Don't make my mistake! The store is filled with the kind of cute vintage items that work well in contemporary homes. The owners obviously have an eye. This is no junk shop. Other than vintage things for the home there are a few racks of 1950-60's clothes and even some 1950's bathing suits for sale. I also noticed some contemporary items in one area of the store. There was only one salesperson at the counter. I didn't ask her any questions but she seemed friendly. Definitely a place to check out if you like vintage things! read more

Cute place but the cashier lady ripped me off last second. The tag said $45.00 and she sold it to me for twice that! I saw her clip off the tag, but didn't think anything of it. I can't even return it as all sales are final. I feel very cheated :( You're better off at the antique shop across the street. AND the prices are more reasonable there too. read more

What an awesome antique store! I loved their clothing selection, such an amazing 70s collection. My favorite room is the one in the back left corner. Lots of amazing textiles and bohemian finds. My husband ended up purchasing a beautiful vintage Pendleton hat for under $40! Definitely would visit again. read more

I am in LOVE with Whimsy. My house has several pieces of furniture in it from this store and every time I come in, items are merchandised so well you always find something cool. The staff are friendly and the owners are warm an helpful. I recently purchased a lovely buffet which was restored to look shabby chic. It is beautiful and very beach themed, which is how the decor in my condo is. The owner even offered free, local, same day delivery. Very cool! I was shopping around the local stores for Mother's Day and stumbled into this shop. There were a few cute items but the sales person did not acknowledge me one bit! I saw that she had a knee brace and was hobbling so I thought she was just having a bad day.....I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but turns out..... the next 'white' customers that walked in were greeted nicely "hello, welcome.
