I made a mistake of taking my dog here for a simple nail trim, I prefaced the owner with letting her know my dog had anxiety and was fearful of nail trims, she assured me it would be fine that they were "professionals". I brought her in on the prong collar she walks with, but I also brought a harness with a handle so they could use that to immobilize her. She declined my harness and dragged my scared nervous dog across the tile floor in a prong collar. My dog was gagging and coughing due to the stress on her neck and since then has been even more nervous about nail trims than before. I also walked by another day and she had another staff shampooing a malinois, who was in clear distress I could hear him screaming from a mile away, and as I approached I saw the lady squeezing the dogs mouth shut and telling him "STOP, BE QUIET". She's lucky the dog didn't resort to his natural instinct and protect himself, I would've if I were the dog. Overall a horrible place to take an animal you love, they do not give extra attention to dogs who have anxiety and neglect the need for positive reinforcement. I would definitely not return and would advise if you're a customer there you stick around and make sure they're not mishandling your dog. read more

Wow!!! My gorgeous girl is a boxer, Italian mastiff, American bulldog mix with some Definite social anxiety around other dogs and Beth took amazing care of her. I have honestly never taken her to get groomed because I was always nervous about how she would react with other dogs. Beth assured me that Fig (my dog) would be safe along with the other dogs. Beth greeted us outside and met Fig with so much charisma that Fig was not nervous at all. She had us bring her in and played it so cool with the other dogs that Fig did not Start barking or lunging at anyone. She was very happy and at ease. Besides keeping Everyone safe Fig looks like a million dollars. Her nails are perfectly trimmed, coat is shinny, and the added pink bandana warmed my heart. I can't wait to go back in 5 weeks and I am sure Miss Fig Ann is excited too. read more

I would give Where the Fur Flys 5 stars on the cut itself, but the customer service is seriously lacking. I was rushed in and rushed out by the owner, who was not wearing a mask in a very small room, as she stuffed my puppy into a kennel. I called a few hours later to check on status and she quickly replied then hung up before I could tell her I had somewhere to be, so had to reschedule my other appointment. Then I took him to the Vet the following day to get neutered and the Vet called me to tell me he had a lesion/bump on top of his eye and asked if I knew what it was. I did not know what it was so I told her to cut it out to check for cancer ($75 charge). I thought about it after I hung up with the Vet and called Where the Fur Flys to see if they knew anything about it...and after I was muted while she asked the girl who shampooed him, she came back and said he had a tick above his eye that they removed. I called the Vet back but it was too late and the Vet had already cut and stitched his upper eyelid. I won't be back and suggest Beth (Owner) and all who work here work on their Pet Owner communication skills going forward. read more

I read so many good reviews and have been having a hard time grooming and clipping my dogs nails. When I called to see if I needed an appointment, the answers were curt and then I was hung up on. I had to call back to see if nails required an appointment. I have a rescue GSD. He had severe kennel stress as he was in tge shelter over 3 mos. He hesitates and balks at some doors. He balked when I opened the door and was nervous. I was trying to coax him in, and before even greeting us, I heard " you have to close the door". Then she was trying to rush us in. Insisted she get behind us to try to hurry us and grabbed my dog's leash. He growled and instantly was backpeddling. And he was in danger of backing into the street. I took the leash back and took a treat out to get him to come me. That caused the owner to keep repeating "you just rewarded bad behavior ". Excuse me? He's petrified and you're rushing him and it's bad behavior? At this point I had no desire to work with someone so impatient and patronizing. read more

My Aussie, Zelda, has had regular "spa days" at Where the Fur Flys for more than 3 years. We both love it -- she eagerly goes through the door and into a crate, ready for her pampering, and leaves clean, fluffy, sweet-smellin' and with a perfect pedi!! Today Zelda was in need of an unscheduled "emergency" bath and Beth graciously squeezed her into her packed schedule -- thank you Beth, you're the best!! I have a 100 pound swiss mountain dog who is really squirmy about getting her feet done. I've taken her to other groomers in the santa cruz area and after one session they brought my dog back with only one or two nails done and told me that they wont do it; its too traumatic on my dog. I have never had this problem with Beth. And I can promise you, she's NOT abusing my dog to get the job done either. I've helped hold my dog while she clipped her nails and while Beth IS firm, she is doing nothing that is harming the dog or traumatizing her. She is just being persistent about it. Another thing I love is I can call her up and she doesn't have me wait weeks and weeks. Usually there is more of a time wait if I'm including a bath.. but if its just the nails I can usually bring her in that week. And for just nails.. she only charges 10 bucks! I've been trying to get my dog used to a dremel and once she's acclimated.. beth has even offered to teach me how to do it. Beth rocks. And so does her shop. read more

Beth came highly recommended and I can see why. Not only is she great at what she does, she enjoys it. I took our new standard poodle, Maggie, for a basic groom (bath, bottom, paws, and nails). Beth is AMAZING. I was so worried about finding a new groomer when I moved to Felton as I have a very large, stubborn Bernese mountain dog that had already been blacklisted from petsmart for being too difficult. When I first called and let her know she said "bring it on. The bigger the better." Boy did she deliver. Not only does she do the best job of any groomer I've been to, Max also listens to her more than he even listens to me. She has excellent command and does great work. So much so that even now that we have relocated to Happy Valley we still make the trip all the way to Ben Lomand for our baths. Worth it. read more

"Where the Fur Flys" is a grooming business that lives up to its name. Beth does a great job with my two Maltese Sugar Pie and Othello. Her prices are reasonable and she has your dogs back to you before you know it. Sugar Pie was in the habit of making groomers make deals with him regarding his paws being clipped and his nails being clipped. For an old guy with one tooth, he could certainly bluff well, but Beth didn't offer any deals. Sugar received a nail clip and his paws received a foxtail clip. And Sugar Pie is all the better for it. If you are in the mountains with your dogs and they need to be groomed then Beth's "Where the Fur Flys" is the place to take them. read more

I am terrified of cutting my dogs nails because one time I hit the quick & there was blood & I'm sure I was more upset than my dog! When I moved to the area, I had to find a place for nail trims. I went to the veterinarian that I had found in Felton. I went during walk-in clinic hours with my two dogs. My bill was $65!!! Someone in the waiting room (thankfully) told me about Where the Fur Flys. I waited until they needed another trim & called. I asked if it was true that they charge $5 per dog & yes- it's true. I told Beth what I paid at the vet & she said "Seriously? How many feet do your dogs have?!" So, we are regulars now & Beth & her employee are SO GREAT! I have a really fussy pug that growls at them & a big hound dog that they clip outside. They are so wonderful & I also very much appreciate the price! read more
