I brought my atv to get fixed due to a start and stop issue. I informed the garage that it was the magneto and flywheel that was the issue. They then suggested to do a diagnostic on the bike which I agreed to. They later came.back saying it was not the magneto or flywheel 100% as they tested it that it was piston and rods. They asked if I would agree to use 1 hour labour's to fix it, I agreed as I was expecting it to be the magneto which was a more expensive fix. Once the rods and pistons were adjusted the same issue was happening. They wanted another hour to test. Turns out they name a mistake a it was the magneto and flywheel which I originally asked to fix. Had them fix that issue. After that they charged me half an hour labor to look at the carburetor which was never adjusted because the fuel air isn't adjusted they also told me that they drained my brand new 2 day old battery dead that they had to recharge it and had to drain my week old oil to fix the issue and charged me for an oil change. When I got the phone call that it runs I was happy to go pick it up with a almost 900$ bill. As I arrive there the mechanic says the bike only starts by pulling the cord. So I ask them to take another 30 min to diagnose if it's the starter or the solenoid. He later tells me it's the starter. So as I'm loading up the vehicle, the mechanic is telling me that the carb was never adjusted because they never told him to look at it. When I bring the bike home I then order a starter and install it. Same issue, only starts by cord. So I order a solenoid. Same issue, only starts by cord. I return both parts and order new ones thinking they're defective. Install them both. Same issue, only starts with cord. I later have a mechanic friend test the wiring because I'm stumped. He said all the wiring is good., solenoid is good and the starter which was diagnosed is good. So he has the idea of disconnecting the starter from the flywheel and magneto casing which was worked on by the garage. And to our surprise the starter turns like it should. He then tells me that something in the flywheel casing is either installed wrong or is jammed which should have been checked by the mechanic when parts were Installed.
A day after I call the garage to explain the situation and they said it has nothing to do with them, that it's an older bike so it parts break, seize or jam while working on it its not their responsibility. I ask him about the starter and he said they put power to it and it didn't move while it was installed. So I asked if they tested it uninstalled and they say no. They later tell me that too many hands have been touching the bike that if I want to get it fixed I'd have to bring it to them for another diagnostic and keep it there to get fixed. I explained how the bike started by ignition with no issues before bringing it to them and I had proof that I brought it and started it by ignition. His response is it's an old bike and he can't trust that it started by ignition when brought and had no proof that it stopped working while with them. They want me to leave it with them for further investigation and hours to fix it. I've heard many people after me coming out with my story that it has happened to then also. They brake pieces in order to jack up the bill. read more
