I'm rewriting my review for this place as it has changed hands since my previous review. We popped in on a Sunday afternoon and there were plenty of folks in with the Premiership football being on the telly. There was a lively buzz, the bar prices are pretty reasonable and the young chap who served us was very pleasant. Looking around there were very few places to sit and we weren't bothered about the football so we followed the bar round and sat in a quieter part of the pub. We were very happy and enjoying our beer when we were abruptly, and loudly, told that we had to move by a waiter because we were sat in the dining area. There were knives and forks on the tables, a pet hate of mine actually as I think it's very unhygienic, but nowhere did it say that only diners could sit there. To put it in perspective, there were at least half a dozen empty tables in the area and only two people actually dining also no-one was waiting to dine. We therefore had to get up and seek out a couple of seats in the busy part of the pub by a family with a toddler. We left the poor couple of diners sat all alone surrounded by empty tables and we finished our beer in a noisy busy corner. Don't get me wrong there was nothing wrong with the little family they were pleasant enough but it can all begin to feel a bit like you're at a kindergarten at times. It was rude and completely unnecessary to ask us to move, there were plenty of empty tables for diners, I felt it was done out of pure mean-spiritedness, a petty jobsworth act. So, basically we won't be going back, there are plenty of other pubs in Garstang to choose from. I hope the Wheatsheaf enjoys their empty tables. read more
