One of the many, little treasures to be found on the grounds.

We have been visiting Wheaton Arts for over 30 years and while it never disappoints, it is difficult to watch this spectacular spot not being utilized to its full potential. The grounds are substantial and could use some landscaping, food/beverage offerings would be a lovely touch. The General Store used to be stocked full of unique, beautiful gift options but it seems sort of empty now and the candy/snack choices have dwindled substantially. The old, cool checkers game board is no where to be seen and the piano no longer plays (sad face here). The stunning Paperwhite Gallery is still alive and well but the Christmas Shop is not. Be sure to watch pottery being made by the most fascinating artists who explain so passionately how their techniques are made into masterpieces ~ magic happening right before your eyes! The Wheaton Arts employees are all extremely friendly, contagiously happy and so welcoming ~ they enjoy their jobs and it wholeheartedly shows.

What a wonderful place! It's a small village that has workshops for glass blowing, pottery making, paper making and stained glass. Visit each workshop to witness the artisans demonstrate their craft skill. A must see is the the glass blowing. Visit the stores and museums and walk the nature trail behind the village. There is a small cafe located in the village and on the day of our visit several food trucks were on-site. One can easily spend several hours here.

My daughter and I decided to make Christmas ornaments at Wheaton Glass. What an awesome experience! Marcus, our instructor, was very patient and made us feel at ease. I have seen glass blowing demonstrations before, but never thought I would be able to try it. Thanks, Wheaton, and Marcus for helping me cross this off my bucket list. Hopefully, I'll be back to make a pumpkin.

Finally visited again decades after my last visit here, back when it was called Wheaton Village. It was time for the holiday sale, so there were great deals on pottery and glass. I wished I didn't live so far away--I was afraid that the fragile items wouldn't survive the trip home. The holiday sale had beautiful items at great prices. We enjoyed browsing in the shops (we had to stop for some nostalgia candy) and the museum. And watching glass-makers at work is always fun. (It was straight out of an episode of Portlandia, except their look--jumpsuits, sweatbands--were affectation but actually functional.) Quaint, wholesome fun for the whole family. They also have an old playground that my family thinks is the best around.

Always a nice to visit. Great little shops to browse in and watching the artists at work is awesome. Glass blowing is really cool! There is a small fee to get into artists area, but worth it. Pleasant surrounding and woodsy grounds to stroll around. The Paws for Art event in April is a lot of fun and animal friendly!

My family and I come here at least 2-3 times per year for various events and love it every time. They have events and activities all ages, keep the location neat, clean and beautiful and are very nice and courteous to all guests. I highly recommend the "make your own" glass blowing sessions that range from $50-100 for a 30-45 minute session. I purchased a session for my wife last year for her birthday and she loved it, we just did it again today for a more complex item and the experience was again very consistent. Joe was her teacher for both years and he's very patient and a great teacher. The center has various events throughout the year such as mini ren-faires, antique shows, and kids programs. My only criticism is that they should sell food. Even if its a small ice cream and drink cart. Occasionally there are food trucks but it would be great if they had snacks or something.

Wheaton Arts gets a five star rating from me not necessarily because of the actual little village but because of the awesome programs they are running. When my best friend turned 30 I knew her gift had to be spectacular, and since she has always had an affinity for glass I thought I'd get her some extravagant glass piece. But then it struck me, wouldn't it be cool if we could take a glass blowing class together, and low and behold Wheaton Arts had one we could take! It's called the "Make Your Own" workshop. You have a choice to make a paperweight, glass jewelry beads or your own vessel (bowl or vase). I was so psyched that we could take a glass blowing workshop together, and she thought it was the best present anyone could ever give her. *tear* So I scheduled our class for last weekend, two 1 hour sessions. It's actually a one on one workshop, since well you know, you're working with molten glass and it can be dangerous. She made me go first, so she could "watch and learn from my mistakes" (such a nice friend) and took lots of photos. When it was her turn I did the same. It was seriously the coolest (and hottest literally) thing I have ever done in my life to date and I suggest if anyone is interested in this that they try it. It's a little pricey but then again look at what your doing/getting. Our vases came out perfect and I can't wait to pick them up now that they are ready. Another awesome thing they're doing now at Wheaton Arts is actual 5 week courses you can take to learn how to make glass beads/jewelry making, glass blowing I, glass blowing II, and various other classes. This wasn't an option when I was researching for her gift, but now that they are and we've seen how freakin' awesome it is just for one hour, we've decided we're going to take the next course that comes up. With five 3 hour classes in a row we'll be able to make several items! If you are an artist or just have a creative side, and have never worked with glass, I highly recommend Wheaton Arts.

Wheaton Arts (formerly Wheaton Village) is a quaint bit of local heritage with broad appeal. Entrance to Wheaton Arts's campus is free, but the train, Museum of American Glass, glassblowing and potter's exhibits require a small free (senior, children and group discounts apply.) I frequent Wheaton's with the kids just to take walks, play on the vintage play ground equipment, look at the ducks and buy REAL penny candy from the general store. In addition to the general store, there are several shops selling artisinally made products, most especially hand-blown glass. Wheaton's also frequently hosts many wonderful special events. Their website outlines this information in detail. I recommend a visit to Wheaton's to anyone in the area. It's also a great place to buy gifts for that hard-to-buy-for person in your life who has everything, since most everything they sell is one of a kind.

I took a recent trip to Wheaton Arts and visited the school house Centre Grove School one of the first in the area. I discovered that the train has not been running for over three years. I used to love the train rides around the park. Unfortuneately, it is no longer there. Sorry to misinform anyone.

(this is a very late post from our visit in summer of 2022)…read more What a gem of a museum that we happened upon during our recent visit to the Millsville, NJ area! We love finding local museums and this one did not disappoint. We were given a short introduction of the museum by a nice lady, then we walked around all of the rooms at our own pace. Every room is PACKED with so much history, and each exhibit and display is well-organized. Afterwards I learned that it actually IS more than 1 museum! We loved all the different displays. The museum really takes the time to pay tribute to so many groups that have served in the military, including Japanese Americans, Tuskegee Airmen, Women in the military, all across multiple wars. You could easily spend a whole day here just absorbing all of the history and artifacts. The collection is just spectacular! While we were there we were given an impromptu tour by Mr. Ed, a volunteer and Vietnam Veteran. (Tours can be scheduled in advance but we didn't schedule one, we were just lucky enough to chance upon one). What an honor and pleasure to be in his presence as he let my 2 boys into the display vehicles and explain (very patiently) all of the features and functions of each. He spent lots of time telling us about the history of the vehicles and in particular we spent a good amount of time in the flight training center. I can't say enough about this great museum. The restoration efforts are fantastic and you can see the passion and care that the employees put into maintaining and, even more importantly, IMPROVING this place. Also to note, restrooms are available and clean, as is water. Located right on the Executive Airport, so you can also catch small planes coming and going. Gift shop is small but reasonably priced. Truly a great place to visit and we would definitely come back, especially when they have their air shows and other events! Probably wouldn't recommend for under 5 years unless you just want to see some airplanes outside. We became members and receive occasional mailings with updates. They have since acquired some new vehicles and we look forward to making another visit in the future!

Not shown in the pictures were all the paintings of dogs. I couldn't catalog them all and in fact, my phone battery died from all the pictures I took of it! Needless to say, we got through less than the 3rd inside of the whole day's time. This large and famed institution has a lot to review and I hope to help your family to make an informed choice about ticket types and visiting. Ticketing is easy whether or not you did anything online, with obvious easy signage in the secondary Hall after the famed Ben Franklin Statue Hall. Welcome staff and generally all staff are so helpful and knowledgeable. We decided on the Family Max membership because it includes ATSC membership including admission to 300 other science centers, many of the same caliber and fame, also because many of them will be at our travel destinations for the next year. Membership is entirely online with barcodes and online ticketing reservations (which ironically generates even more barcodes, one per attendee) so it is extremely easy to use, especially more so if you have good IT fluency and a good record-keeping system. I did not use the parking deck, which membership discounts are $10 off the $25 fare each day, but access from any point in the city and by any type of transit is very easy. The building is famous, easy to find and hard to miss. Frontage is right on Logan Square and extremely easy to find and orient oneself. Specialitly entrances such as accessibility, ramps and group entrances are very easy to find. Special events at pavilions have their own entrances. The Halls and exhibitions are overwhelmingly many and a large with tons of displays and booths to occupy all humans of all ages for dozens of hours. We join their membership not only because we aren't too far away but because it would take so many visits to well appreciate the breath and death of this institution. Although I last came as a grade school student, I can see clearly why the parents then and now consider this a worthwhile trip. The included science shows (usually four different ones daily with a few repeats within each day) are excellent examples of this commitment to education and sturdy science. At a time when so much misinformation and alternative science prevail profitably, it is comforting and necessary that this this ideal cause continues. Lastly, the overall venue is just excellent with so many types of science represented as to sate the curiosities of any child in any domain. Great food is just blocks away, notable is that Chinatown is straight down Race Street, and great views from most windows ease the usual concerns of parents about logistics and interest both.

We toured the house (Eleutherian Mills) and garden, powder yard, saw a small antique car exhibit, a gunpowder demonstration, and strolled around the grounds, which are very walkable and well-shaded in parts, but there is also a shuttle that travels between the main areas (visitor center/museum, house, powder yards) which runs every 20 minutes. The property is impeccably maintained and gorgeous to walk around, bordered by the Brandywine River where we saw some kayakers row by (for paddlers & outdoor enthusiasts: you can do this as an activity in the area). Everything was SO well-organized, and the tour guides & staff could not have been more lovely or helpful. They helped us time-manage our tours (as we arrived late in the day and were in a bit of a rush) and were generous with answering questions and sharing information about the history of the place and of the du Pont family. ======= TIP: If you love museums and historic homes & gardens and plan to visit at least a couple, the best thing you can do is purchase a Brandywine Treasure Trail Passport ($49 for individuals, or $99 for family including 2 adults & 3 children 17yo and under), which grants you admission to 12 area attractions that you can visit once any time between May 24-October 31. (This year is almost over but you can still buy the 2025 pass or wait for 2026 to be released.) There were many enterprising du Pont descendants/cousins, and the multiple grand estates in this area were built/owned by different branches of the family: in addition to Hagley there is also Winterthur, Nemours, Mt. Approximately an hour into our visit we were ushered out of one of the exhibits on the first floor and told that exhibit would be closing. Thought it was odd that a particular exhibit in the museum would be closing early, but we complied, simply moving on to other exhibits. At approximately 4:20 we were in a room on the second floor and the lights suddenly went out (pitch black, can't see your hand in front of your face, darkness). We were stunned for a moment before using our phone flashlights to safely exit. We were then met at the door by a confused staff member who stated that the museum had actually closed at 4pm. We began making our way toward the exit, explaining that the website listed that the hours were until 8pm on Thursdays. We were then stopped by a second employee who accused us of having entered the room *after* the lights had been turned off (because, as everyone knows, the best way to view art is in total darkness). She then said that we had already been informed that the museum was closing. ("Exhibit" and "museum" mean different things.) We explained once again that the website listed Thursdays' hours until 8pm. Rather than appreciate the confusion (much less apologize for the communication error), she insisted that we must have been looking at the hours for the following week (not true) and added a superfluous directive to leave (as we were literally stepping toward the exit). Up to this point, we had been enjoying our visit. However, this rude encounter certainly marred our experience

As I came in thru the entrance the sign read "Free Museum" I says to myself "FREE" I need to check it out and glad I did... As I walked inside you have a really nice gift shop that you need to explore and support. The volunteers working were the best. Not sure where to start but as you enter the main area it is just loaded with WWII, Korean and Vietnam displays. Ever wonder how those belly and tail gunners worked, there is a display for that. I know I could not have done it. There is even a mock-up control tower to explore and listen to the base tower giving commands. On my visit I was able to see a C130 take off from the tower. If your ever in the area this is a must stop, especially if your a history buff. And at the end, please give these people a donation for a job well done. Peace.

This is a gem. Rarely do I give a place 5 stars, but this museum is a must. People into aviation…read moreand military history, will find a home here. Thank you to the staff here, as so friendly, knowledgeable, and great service all around. Inside the World War 2 planes are phenomenal. Skytrain. Aviation fans will know that. You can walk in several planes, including a former Air Force 2, C130 Hercules, and C141 Starlifter. Soon they will have an A10 Warthog. The F101 and F106's were great to see, and will admit sensory overload. So many great planes, and also the former air traffic control tower were top notch. You'll want to go here. Donations appreciated but no admission cost!
