Years ago, Dr. Scherer removed a tooth of mine, and the experience was perfect... very efficient,…read moreprofessional, and I had no issues afterwards. Because of that positive experience, I brought my 9-year old son in today to have a tooth removed. My son has some special needs - he has severe ADHD, a learning disability and intense anxiety about pain. During our consultation with Dr. Scherer last month, I informed him of this and explained that my son has anxiety and fear (somewhat disproportionate to a normal level) when it comes to pain. I said, he will be VERY afraid and wI'll likely cry. I asked Dr. Scherer what he could do to help alleviate the fear. Answer: a child's dose of Valium the night before and morning of, and either laughing gas or IV sedation. I assumed those would be coupled with some understanding and a little empathy and maybe compassion for a terrified CHILD. OMG!!!! NOTHING could be farther from that. Dr. Scherer showed no empathy or compassion. Basically, he scared my son even more by saying "We can either do this now, here - or in the hospital." He demonstrated no care or understanding that my son was terrified. In fact, Dr. Scherer's demeanor was brusque, curt and slightly aggressive. He was unkind in that he used my son's fear against him instead of found or saying ANYTHING to try to allay his fear... even a little. My son was being brave and 'keeping it together' until we were told that I wasn't allowed to go into the room to hold his hand. Per Dr. Scherer, APPARENTLY, having a parent in the room makes the situation worse. Ok, maybe. I'll never know. But, I never expected the callous, brusque manner of Dr. Scherer today. I don't understand why this "hard-a$$" approach was necessary or appropriate for a scared, terrified kid with cognitive challenges. Shame on you, Dr. Scherer.

My 6 year old daughter is one of those kids who acts like she's brave but I can see right through…read moreher. I know when she's nervous, and I know she's got that "white coat syndrome" that so many kids (and adults) face. When we arrived at Wheaton Prarie Dental, I could almost HEAR her heart beating faster. So I made sure to act calm and collected as we approached the front door. Once her name was called, I was surprised she didn't run out the door right then and there. But Lindsey, the hygienist, greeted her with a smile and made sure she was comfortable in The Chair. And that's when I knew my kid wasn't scared anymore. She was definitely relaxed, and this was WITHOUT the gas mask! After Lindsey did the routine xray and whatnot, we met Dr Colella. He, too, greeted her with a smile and had a good talk with her. He acted as if he was just a friend who she hadn't seen in a while. He explained that he was just going to check and make sure everything was going well and even got excited when discovering there was a FIRST LOOSE TOOTH present! At the end of the exam, he gave us a bag full of goodies which of course any kid would love. The staff here is great and despite it being on a relatively busy street, the location is great. Parking is easy and there's a lot to do to pass time if you've got to wait a while for your significant other or kid during a long visit. Our routine visit, however, was quick - something I appreciate as a busy mom. Overall I'm happy to have found a dentist/dental office that I can trust, and one that my kids will trust as well. We all know dental visits are scary. This place isn't scary. =)

According to other reviews here and on other sites, I must have caught Dr Alec on a REALLY bad day…read more My appointment was for 4:45pm. I arrived at 4:30, filled out a quick form and was taken back into an exam room. The staff member who took me back was lovely, and got myself and my mother water. I was then told that Dr Zurek had to do a "quick exam" on another patient. Dr Zurek didn't get to me until 5:10pm; he left me sitting for 25 minutes. When he came into the room, he was bombastic and spoke loudly about how he had been having a busy day. I was there to talk about dentures/dental implants. He started by asking me why my teeth were so bad; when I told him that there were issues in both my mother and father's sides of the family with teeth, my explanation wasn't good enough. He began the discussion of my options by asking if the reason my teeth were bad was because I was "lazy or had bad dental hygiene", saying he needed to know in order to best assess what type of dental prosthetic would work for me. During the discussion, I broke into tears at least three times. I really felt that I was being talked down to and judged. Dr Zurek spent a great deal of time touting his expertise and abilities. He suggested a solution that would cost $65,000, although I had mentioned that cost was a concern. I felt zero compassion from him. At one point, I was crying with my head down in the exam chair while he talked with my mother about my options, and I just couldn't take any more of it. When he finally asked me what I thought, I told him that I thought that I needed to leave, took off my dental "bib", got up and grabbed my purse; I walked right out. As I was leaving, he called after me that it was "very important that I be involved in the discussion", but I refused and left the office, going outside and sitting on the practices stairs until my mother followed a few minutes later and we both left. I feel traumatized by this experience, and cannot believe I was spoken to like a naughty child. I am 49 years old and do not need that from someone I am going to for help, with the intention of paying him a large amount of money for his services. I wish there was a rating of "0 stars" because my experience with the doctor was TERRIBLE.

I had to cancel my cleaning because of a severe tendinitis flare in my shoulder and knee -- I physically couldn't drive or sit through the appointment. When I called to explain, the response was flat and unsympathetic. I was told the next available cleaning wasn't until October, with no offer of a cancellation list and no attempt to help. What makes this especially frustrating is that they call me about once a week asking if I want to come in for last‑minute openings when they have cancellations. But when I had a legitimate medical issue, suddenly there was no flexibility and no interest in accommodating a long‑time patient. After three decades with this practice, I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable -- just basic courtesy. The way this was handled made it clear that loyalty doesn't count for much here anymore. At this point, I'm planning to find a different dentist for myself, my kids, and anyone else I care about. I still believe they could have handled this with more understanding, but they chose not to, and that's what ultimately pushed me to move on.

Dr. Moss, Dr. Crowe and their dental staff are very kind, professional and highly efficient. However, since the North American Dental Group has been involved, the scheduling and check in procedures have become bureaucratic and unnecessarily onerous. I find it particularly objectionable that all the calls are routed through the call center. When I call the dentist's office about my individual care, I expect to talk to someone who can actually answer my questions. This has led to a situation where I have been unable to schedule a 6 month routine dental exam. Instead, I could only schedule an appointment for 8 months out and be on a waiting list for an earlier appointment should someone else cancel. This is unacceptable!
