What's Fresh? - Food Truck Thursday Holy crap! I'm not usually a cold sandwich type of guy for food truck Thursday but on the recommendation of a friend I had to try it. Warren, the executive chef and owner of What's Fresh?, crushed the competition today. I was immediately greeted by a very friendly smile, none other than the owners Mom. Yup, Warren's mother. This is the lady who makes the pickles for their sandwiches and wraps. I ordered the porktastic sandwich with the hope that it would be good. Unwrapping this meal I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of bread Warren uses for his sandwiches. The mustard used on it is the perfect complement to the fresh greens and pork. The explosion of flavors complimenting each other was absolutely awesome!!! Fresh tomato, a fresh mix of greens (baby spinach is always good with pork) and those pickles. Pickles! Crisp with a lot of flavor! I loved it! Just so you know, for the $8 you not only get the sandwich but a bag of chips and a drink. That's $2 less than any other food truck on the street. I guess fresher is better! While Warren and his wife Bonnie have only been working the food truck for 4 months, it is definitely a hit around here. Whether it's a sandwich or a wrap, it will always be fresh and delicious. If you get a chance to catch What's Fresh, make sure to tell Warren to ride his bike more often! Yes, he rides. Best dang pork sandwich I've ever had. Why? Fresh baked roll, home-made pickles, and Chef Warren brines and bakes his own meats instead of using frozen, pre-packaged stuff. Chef Warren was easy to work with. We rented his food truck for a wedding rehearsal. Always responded to my questions right away. He arrived on time. Woohoo! A food truck that doesn't serve processed junk! Fresh veggies (maybe a little more kale that I'd prefer but the hipsters that like that thing will be happy) and they are happy to customize to your tastes! I had a salad with yummy Italian chicken and their homemade italian dressing and it was great! Big variety of veggies in the salad too. Their online menu isn't all they have so don't go by that, I think it'd help their business more if they had more menu items listed on their website but I'm sure it changes by what's in season. As a novelty he sells his mama's outstanding pickles, calls his customers by name and has great enthusiasm for what he does. I got in touch with him because everyone had raved about the fresh ingredients, locally sourced and the wonderful prep. that goes into all his items on the menu. We were NOT disappointed. What's Fresh was at my work location for food truck Friday today. I just had to write a review because it's probably some of the most amazing food truck fare I've had. I had the cranberry turkey wrap and, it was as the name indicates, very fresh. I also got the hibiscus lemonade and I can't say enough about it. So amazing. You can really taste the freshness of the food and the love that's put into making it. The service was also amazing. I waited about two minutes to get my food. Maybe less. This is the first Yelp review I have ever done - because everyone needs to know how AMAZING Chef Warren and his team are!! I had a dinner party with 5 couples scheduled at my house for Saturday night and the chef I had hired got very sick 3 days before my party. I was in panic mode and went on a desperate hunt to find a replacement chef capable of handling a 5 course, formal, plated dinner party 3 days later...yikes!! I was fortunate enough to find Chef Warren (on referral from another respected chef in the Valley) and miraculously, he accepted the challenge! He and his lovely wife (and business partner), Bonnie, showed up with their sous chef right on time and began to set up/plate the food. They were professional, organized and SO MUCH FUN! Chef Warren was engaging, informative, personable and my guests loved it so much, that we are going to try to do a quarterly dinner party with Chef Warren at rotating houses! And the FOOD. The food was outstanding - we had scheduled a 5 course dinner but he surprised us with a fun paddlefish roe appetizer/teaser and it just got better from there. He uses fresh, organic ingredients and cooks them in a way that is simple and delicious with beautiful presentation. If I could give 10 stars, I would! While Chef Warren has a thriving food truck business, I highly recommend him for formal private parties as well -- you and your guests will be in for a treat!! read more
