Most establishments would cringe to see a bus full of high school kids enter their doors. This Whataburger welcomed us with a smile and pleasant conversation. All 26 of my athletes as well as myself and the bus driver were served and happily eating within 10 minutes of completing our order. (Very important when traveling with teenagers!) What-a-burger is an awesome place, but this one is absolutely terrible. The only thing that is consistent is they are going to mess up your order at least twice before they get it right. Worst experience I've ever had... EVER!!!! Waited 45 min after we placed our order. It's whataburger between 10:15-11:00 on a wed night. "Please pull up and we'll have it right out." We waited another 20 min when we finally went and banged on their door until they gave us the wrong order. We gave it back and waited another twenty min only to get the same exact wrong order. The manager hid in the back and only came forward to unlock a register to give us our money back. Oh wait, the wrong change! You can keep it whataburger. Where shall I start? Okay, the good first. Two girls at the counter helped my family and I J and RA. They are rock stars. They were taking so much crap from other customers that it was ridiculous. In their position, I'd have started throwing food and cussing the customers out. They are where the good ends. Now the bad. The restrooms were two tiny little stalls that opened directly into the dining room. Gross. My daughter never got her drink cup. It was a kids meal...with beverage. The ice machine was broken. A young man was dumping ice by the bucketful so that the customers could have cold drinks. Did I mention that the dining room was only 62 degrees? We were FREEZING!!! Other people complained to the manager ( more on her later) and she just looked at them like they were crazy, and said "well I don't feel chilly". HELLO! You're in the kitchen. Duh! Lots of people came and went with their food while we were waiting. FOR 25 MINUTES. After nearly 30 minutes with no food, I went to the counter to get a refund. The girls at the counter apologized profusely while attempting to get me my money back. Mid transaction, a voice from the back barks for "J" to get her a$$ back into the kitchen. It was the manager (a dark haired woman, maybe 40 years old), who then proceeded to SCREAM and curse "J" out because she was refunding my money. Poor J came out of the back nearly in tears because of this. Apologizing yet again, she handed my cash back to me. I told her that she shouldn't apologize because she's working under poor management. It was a wonder that the girl didn't burst into tears, I felt so bad for her. I have the owners number, after he/she gets my call, hopefully this store will be ran right. This was a good freeway stop on Hwy 35, clean bathroom and clean restaurant. They were pretty fast and professional considering how slammed they were. Makes for a good rest stop on a long road trip. Employees were friendly and helpful. Well managed store. Whataburger burgers themselves are a step above McDonalds, but never rise above average. When in a desperate pinch on a hot road trip, Whataburger will suffice for a quick cheap burger and a soda. read more

Do yourself a favor and avoid this location. I'm guessing most customers here were first time, like us and didn't know any better. My friends and I were heading back from New Braunfels to Dallas and decided to stop for lunch. We walk in and there are several people in line and only one cashier. Eventually another worker decides to take orders. I walk up and she is the most rude and it is obvious she is bothered that she even has to take my order. Her attitude, tone, body language. She gives me my change back by throwing it into my hand causing money to go over the counter with no apology. Then we ask for unsweet tea because it was out. The girl took the canister to the back and walked past us at least 3 times and never brought any tea or gave us an update. Finally we asked another worker, who was very nice, the status and he said it would at least be 10 minutes. Good info the original girl should have told us so we weren't standing there waiting. There were several other negative customer service examples in our visit, but this review would be a novel if I included them. The food was just okay, fries EXTREMELY salty. This place was very weird. It was as if most of the workers hated their job or had zero customer service training. This place needs an overhaul. read more

Every single table was dirty at 7:33 pm, just like it was one month ago when my husband and I ate here. Order was correct but still doesn't look like the commercials on tv. I have been to this location plenty of times and the drive through line is run completely wrong. There seems to be no systematic way that allows this Whataburger line to run smoothly and quickly. It usually takes atleast 25 minutes to get my order out each time I go. When I went today, not only was the line very slow, I was given the wrong drink, my burger order was incorrect, the fries were soggy, I was not given a straw, and was given no condiments. I watched the employees walking around and giving drinks to the wrong cars and getting mad in front of the customer when they messed up. I was very displeased. I would have been alright about the wait if everything else about my order was okay. I only give it the second star because the food is usually great. read more

Sitting in the drive through line, there are two and apparently I chose the wrong one. I have been here 20 minutes. In that time I have watched 6 cars that got here after I ordered my food place their orders, get their food and leave. I could have sat down at a sit in restaurant on my lunch break, but I wanted "fast food". Is there a Whataburger in Waco or the surrounding towns that can get an order correct? I think not. Order 2 Sausage BOB meals paid for meals but no hash browns. Other locations are just as bad. Don't let the brand new building fool you- this whataburger is horrible. You're guaranteed to be greeted by one of the most uncaring fast food workers you'll come across (typically not a WORD is spoken, you're just expected to place payment in their outstretched palm). June update---Edit...I see the owner is tearing the building down to rebuild a new store to be competitive with the burger competition in the zone. Waste of money...New Buildings do not sell food, quality staff with a good work ethic does. Look next door at Chic FilA and McDs. One is banking several thousands a day with a great team...the other is passing out dollar items as bums skulk out in the drive thru and people who can't get an order correct are trying to figure out how to use the POS machine. Crappy place. I usually love a Whataburger so I stopped at this location. Bad move on my part. Place is poorly managed for sure. Frozen burger patty was pinkish but I could not get a french fry response so I ate a few bites and tossed it. The Manager, a "Little Richard" lookalike must have been in back grooming while the four counter people stood around and chatted about weekend plans. My fries were about 1/2 filled so I asked the ketchup passer person for more. She said, she would check on it. She never came back. Co-workers and her were too busy talking about other more important matters such as his and her social lives. Franchise name and location brings them in and pays the bills. No brand name or across from a large university...this ship would sink on quality alone! Try another location...this one sux! I've been going to Whataburgers all over Texas my entire life and this is consistently the worst one by far. On our most recent visit there, we waited about 45 minutes and never got food, and we noticed that many people who had ordered after us were getting their food. When we asked about it, the employee walked away and was very rude. I said something to the employee and he started getting aggressive and the police officers that were there stepped in to restrain him...they did not say a word to me because I was literally just waiting on my food. They asked us to leave after finally giving us our money back, we never got food, not even a free small fry, not even a coupon. read more

* I recently went to the Whataburger restaurant in Waco. When evaluating a fast food restaurant, I judge it on the follow criteria, price of the food, quality of food and service. Whataburger's strong point is the price of the food. A full meal, burger, fries and a drink are only around $6 which is a great value. However, Whataburger fails in the aspects of quality of food and service. Food is very average, subpar compared to other fast food restaurants of the same price. It is not bad, but if you are looking for a high-quality burger I would look somewhere else. Service is mediocre as well, food often takes too long to come out and I had to remind them of my order. However, employees are decently friendly and professional, but you can get better service at competitors such as In-n-Out. Overall it is good enough but not an attraction to go there. Overall Whataburger is a decent restaurant, but I would go to another competitor over it when making the choice. read more
