Afternoon tea, with scones and cream added
    Beth T.

I have been searching and searching for a place to have afternoon tea - so I was so happy to stumble across What the Dickens when we were in Hastings for a baseball tournament The afternoon tea came with an assortment of savory and sweet treats. Including cucumber tea sandwiches, egg and bacon tea sandwiches, a slice of sausage roll, Bakewell tarts and more. I opted to add two scones with clotted cream and jam as well (which was a great choice, because the scones are amazing). Truly everything on the tea tray was delicious, but the warm scones may have been my favorite part. They have a wide selection of teas to choose from as well, but I went with an old favorite (English breakfast tea). My husband loves scotch eggs and was delighted to see them listed on the menu - and he really enjoyed his We also grabbed some Eccles cakes and Bakewell tarts to go (the Bakewell tarts were my 5 year old's favorite) Our food and tea came out quickly and the server seemed very familiar with the menu and was able to answer all our questions We would absolutely stop in again the next time we are in Hastings!

Great food, even better staff. So nice and a refreshing change from boring fast food.

Not only is the tea room elegantly tidy and all the pastries (sweet and savory) a feast for the eyes, the staff is careful in handling food.

Murphy's Wagon Wheel - 10 uncooked sweet potato fries for $8

Atrocious pricing, refusal to actually fill orders correctly, and portion are a complete joke. My…read moreother half ordered a pickup meal that included a sandwich, an extra side of pickle chips for $10, another extra side of sweet potato fries for $8, and a kids order of popcorn shrimp for $10. They decided to omit the fries that come with the kids order and add exactly 13 pickle chips to it. Providing us not with what we paid for and a disappointment all around. The popcorn shrimp was consumed with disappointment for a lack of fries, my partner was disappointed that so little pickle chips were received instead of the proper side that was ordered. $20 charged for one item that was worth less than the two items ordered that were falsely combined. Then we unpacked the side of sweet potato fries to find exactly 10 fries, for $8, I remind you. It looks like maybe one potato was cut up to provide this side. To feed all of us when we expected a container full of them. The real kicker is that they were still hard and partially uncooked. The sandwich was the only item that was provided correctly. This is the second time they've failed to provide an order as we made it. We will never be returning. What a joke. The food doesn't even taste that good. It all tastes and looks cheap. Photos: Sweet potato fries, sandwich order. Not pictured: The joke of the combined kids meal/side that wasn't filled correctly. It was consumed before we decided to write the review.
