Stopped here for an evening meal of fish & chips…read more Everything was good. Not great just good with the exception of the tartar (not sure if yall call it that in NZ) sauce to dip the fish into. That stuff--I think I mixed in a little garlic aioli or something--was phenomenal. I'd eat that by itself. So so so good. I also had a spieghts beer -- forget which one -- and it was pretty bad. This is coming from someone who can drink (and like) just about any beer. Maybe this batch was off or just older? I dunno. Just not my favorite whereas I loved their Old Dark. Anyway, it's a fine place to stop for a meal. Everyone was super friendly.

Absolutely DISGUSTED by how the male staff unlocked and opened the toilet door with a key while I…read morewas using it, just because another customer wants to use it. What the fuck seriously? Who in their right mind unlocks a toilet when it's in use? I shouted that someone's inside but to no avail. My husband confronted the male staff later but all he said was that there is nothing he could do about it when another customer wants to use it. Wtf?! How does this even make logical sense? Ever heard about WAITING? I was barely in the toilet for 2-3 mins before having such a rude shock. Zero apology from the entitled customer, zero apology from the male staff working at the morning - noon shift today. This is NOT how you treat your customers especially after such an ignorant and grave mistake. If you're thinking of bringing your daughter, girlfriend or wife here or you're one yourself, I suggest you avoid this UNETHICAL trash bag of a place and support other local cafes in the area instead. I'll give this place 0 stars if I could.

Tons of GF options in baked goods and just darn good breakfast food. Between the three of us we got the Village Platter, Pancakes, and bacon & eggs. The village platter was a home run and had just about everything (bacon, sausage, toast, hash browns, roasted potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, and eggs). Everything on the plate was cooked great and it was a very filling meal. The pancakes came with bananas and bacon. I mean it didn't make sense but then it totally did. The mix of sweet and savory was spot ON! We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick solid breakfast spot. It is located in a little shopping center but don't let that turn you away from some delicious breaky!

We cruised the streets of Timaru and there are lots of restaurants although some looked very seedy in the downtown area. This restaurant had a great sign and building and what we could see inside, looked very nice. What a lucky find! Lovely ambience with old photos of Timaru, great decor, and friendly, efficient staff. I had the soup of the day which was spinach based with a freshly baked roll. My husband had the chicken bowl which was vaguely Thai in flavor and spicy. We both loved our meals and hated to leave but we had to hit the road without dessert. Great place in every way.

We were in town for a bit today and decided we needed to have lunch here. We are so glad we did!!! We are vegetarian (not vegan) and the menu was perfect for us. The waiter was friendly and efficient. The food was spiced mild as we requested. We were happily impressed. The "waiter in black glasses and black turban" who was criticized in another post appeared to be our waiter. We found him to be very nice and highly accommodating. He could not have been nicer. Anyone who had an unpleasant time here must have had other things going on. On a Sunday afternoon there were tourists and locals and everyone seemed quite happy with the food and their experience. Highly recommended when you come to Timaru.
