Glad to put this place on the map! Found this place on our way from Christchurch to Queenstown. Staff are friendly. Pastries looked delish. Very quaint. Must stop by if driving by!

There was only 1 couple there and 1 worker who was also the chef and owner. I asked him what he recommended and he suggested the classic caesar salad. My friend had the salmon eggs benedict and I also ordered the date scone and coffee. It ended up being the best meal we had in New Zealand! Everything was so fresh and made from scratch. Another couple came in after us and since he was the only one there, we had to wait for our food for awhile while he took their order. Good thing I ordered the scone since that just needed to me warmed and was presented to us fairly quickly. OMG, the best scone I've ever had. I can't even give it a proper description. It was kinda fluffy but rich. The clotted cream and raspberry jam paired perfectly with it. I usually don't like raspberry but sigh, it was sooo perfect with it. The caesar salad had dry cured bacon, a poached free range egg, focaccia croutons and shaved parmesan. I've never had caesar salad with bacon but it was perfect. Breaking open the soft poached egg and mixing it up with the focaccia croutons, it was pure bliss. My friend's salmon egg benedict with spinach was also sublime. He said it was the best he's ever had. As we were driving away, we saw the little garden he had next to the cafe. No wonder the salad greens tasted so fresh. Not a wilted green in sight.

My friends and I ordered the panfried salmon of the day, an eggs Benedict with salmon, and a salmon salad. All ingredients were fresh. The eggs Benedict had a delicious runny yoke which completed the whole dish. Their fries were crispy- which came with the panfried salmon of the day. We also ordered a scone which was soft and tasted like it was fresh from the oven. This eatery has a small town feel ambiance with friendly customer service. Nothing pretentious - just good food.

I ordered a butterscotch hot chocolate. Nothing on the menu grabbed my interest and everything was a bit pricey. I tasted the salmon sandwich and thought it was a bit too salty and fishy for my preference. My hot chocolate was tasty but mostly whipped cream which felt like a jip. I didn't enjoy the cafe much but they do have free wifi and theres a fun playground across the street with a human sized hamster wheel. That was a blast. If I were passing through this town again, I'd probably visit this cafe again because there aren't many options around anyway. It looks like the best option and probably is.

Now normally, this would be the time that a server would come by with water, ask how I'm doing, and if I want to place a drink order. But NOOOOOO not here! Here, they will all walk past you several times, acting like you don't exist, until FINALLY after 20 MINUTES, they ask "Can I get you something?" As if I'm not there at 1:30 in the afternoon for LUNCH. Next, the coffee and food wasn't good either. In fact, it was bad. I got a latte and a Brunch Wrap. The wrap was more like a Brunch Clusterfrck than something I could pick up, but moreover the entire thing tasted like mango chutney which overpowered the flavor of the bacon and eggs. Just gross. The pasta side dish was overpowered by... something... as well. Then, when I went to the toilet, it said Close The Door on the entry, so I did, and locked it. Halfway through taking a leak, one of the waitresses unlocked the door and came in to rummage through their utility closet (which was inside the restroom). What the hell?!? Who unlocks a bathroom door when a customer is using it? Finally, when I paid, the girl at the counter said nothing. No "How was your meal?" ... Nada. Not overtly rude, but rude by omission of common courtesy. There is no excuse to treat ANY customer like this. I am a nice, well dressed, cheerful guy... Not some homeless kid off the street or something. It appears that the girls who run this place have little if any professional experience in the restaurant industry. Perhaps the owner should hire some older women instead of a waitstaff whose avg age appears to be about 21.
