Best cafe in Tekapo…read more We stopped by for breakfast all 3 days we were in the area and our flat whites (one regular, one with soy) were consistently great. The muffin flavor rotates daily. We tried the banana caramel, chocolate and Nutella flavors and all were delicious (& not too sweet). The berry French toast is also delicious. We also tried the curried chicken wrap which was tasty, and minced meat pie which was decent. Service is great and staff is friendly. You are given a number if you decide to eat-in and the drinks are brought timely. The food may take awhile, but it's fine since you can sip on your drink in the meantime. Communal tables available with a fair amount of seating. Cute vibe. Lots of parking. Definitely our favorite spot.

THANKFULLY, they give you an overestimation of wait times, at least for food, my Croque Madame (19.5 NZD) coming out very fast to the picnic bench just outside. FRESH ingredients and despite only having 1 egg, the free range egg was actually quite big with a mostly runny yolk. I did wish there was more bechamel sauce perhaps because it was a little dry. I practically almost finished this before the boy was able to fetch my Flat White for me, the baristas positively inundated by in-cafe orders alongside walk-up window ones. It was already quite crowded at 9AM on a Friday, so VERY popular, but with reason!

Cute little spot, lots of 80s music playing and pictures of Sydney Harbour and two of New York on…read morethe left side walls. Pictures of landscapes and on the right hand side walls. There are booths on both sides and tables in the middle. The servers use electronica order system which is nice so that your order gets to the kitchen right away in case they get sidetracked on their way back to place the order. We started with the battered onion rings which were tasty. It was served with a thin homemade tasting buttermilk ranch dressing. It all needed a little bit of salt but they were tasty. I better have had the Cuban sandwich which I was a little concerned about the flavor of the pork which she did admit seemed a little warmed over flavor, but other than that it was tasty. Since we had already had the fried onion rings they let him substitute fries that would've come with the sandwich for a small side salad. I ordered the special which is also on the regular menu Thai chicken red curry. It had a little too much starch, not enough coconut or ginger or lemongrass flavor but the chicken breast was very tender and the white rice was nice and soft to help soak up the sauce. The Thai slaw served on the side was fresh and flavorful, with a hint of peanut butter and nice plump edamames. The place felt very American in nature both in the menu and in the decor. One thing that they should do is that they need to bring out the serving utensils when you order or sit down as we had to go up to the counter and request those after our onion rings arrived. They also really need to offer larger napkins. It's hard to eat fried onion rings with no utensils and the absolutely tiny little napkins that are on the table in those dispensers. Even the napkins that were rolled around the fork and knife were too small. Other than that the service was pleasant and the ambience was as well. It was not culinary greatness, however we would return as it is a safe bet and not much is open here in the evenings.

Central Cafe - Thai red chicken curry - not spicy at all. Had to add Tabasco sauce to get the kick I like. Chicken was very tender.
