i love this place, it always has mice for my snake for great prices! i was referred to it by a petco employee when they were out of mice and i'm so glad she referred me! the ladies in here always ask if i need any help, and they host a variety of little creatures! they have cats walking around the store and it's just a really neat spot. they have all kinds of baby animals like baby turtles and tortoises that are just so tiny and cute! they also have hedgehogs, birds, ferrets, and a good variety of small snakes and pythons. definitely a spot to know about! i also appreciate how they actually have stuff for my snake like soil, variety of habitat stuff, and heat lamps. petco and petsmart do not cater to reptile owners, but this place does!! read more

Highly disappointed by my visit yesterday! We shopped here my entire life as a child and I have some very fond memories! I remember having seen the ups and downs, which was always kind of sad. But after yesterday I couldn't care less, and have a better understanding of why they probably happened. Apparently you can have a child's party at this store and the staff will bring various animals in for show and tell, and likely for everyone to pet. As though the animals aren't poked and proded enough in their cages out front... But it REALLY ticked me off that they were taking a chinchilla into the party of children. A nocturnal animal that can be highly sensitive and easily gets nervous and you're going to wake it up and take it into a children's party in the middle of the afternoon?! I watched in horror as this happened. Not only does this animal not belong in a pet store in general, but you're going to make it part off the petting zoo? Disgusting. Staff. HIRE AN ADULT! There wasn't a single adult in sights for the 45 minutes we were in the store. Having a staff of only high school kids is not a great idea. Aside from safety, the knowledge just isn't there and in some cases is replaced by attitude. And speaking of knowledge: aquatics. Several of the freshwater aquariums appearrd to have been overfed on what seemed to be a regular basis. There was a sunset gourami with a poop trail at least two inches long. That doesn't just happen in one feeding. It's unhealthy for the fish, and gross to look at! All in all I'm shocked and disappointed. The owner, Laura Blalock, might need to spend some more time in her store getting things in order, and rethink her choice in management staff, and adjust some of her business practices. read more

I do not recommend going inside this store or buying from there. Right when I walked in the store, I was glared at by the older lady working there and It was giving a bad atmosphere. Naturally, I like ferrets, so I went to the ferrets straight away. The ferrets' nails were very long and their fur looked very unhealthy. I picked one up to look at the closer and the older lady talked at me very rudely to put the ferret down. I wasn't holding the ferret outside of the cage or holding it wrong, she was just looking for reasons to be rude. I took a look at the other animals and I saw the same problem. Very long and untrimmed nails and unhealthy looking fur. One of my friends with me tried to go look at the guinea pigs but couldn't enjoy their time there because the older lady was practically breathing down their neck. Overall, I had a very bad experience with this business and I suggest that they learn some customer service and learn a little more about animals so that they're not mistreating the animals. read more

DO NOT under any circumstance adapt/buy a pet from this store. They are inept. We adapted a kitten almost 2 weeks ago and were told it was a she and was between 10-12 weeks old. The kitten was actually a male and was only 6-8 weeks old and obviously was separated from its mother far too soon. The kitten became very ill which required a trip to a pet ER for an overnight stay at the cost of over $500.00. Vet trip the next day that I haven't gotten a bill for yet. The kitten died overnight while at the vet. Needless to say, myself nor any member of my family plan to ever set foot inside that place again. The staff is obviously not qualified. read more

My niece was wanting to purchase a pet rat from here and I was in the market to try and find a reasonably priced cage. One of the nicer ladies working there stated she could order me one that cost $30. When the cage arrived she apologized and stated it would be $70 instead. I went to another pet store and the same cage was $59.99. I spoke with a different lady today and she stated, "So we special ordered a custom cage for you and now you're saying you don't want it." I told her I'd come by the day before and seen the cage, it wasn't a custom cage and that because she was being so rude I'd take my business elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend anyone go here, although the younger red haired lady was very nice. This older shrew was not. read more

Nasty...nasty. I was so disgusted when I walked in. The smell of urine and feces hit my nose right away. And those poor kittens and cats were so sickly looking. They had more adult cats put toward the back, sorta out of view. I wonder what destination they were heading for? I had to leave because I was so distressed over the lack of care these animals recieved. read more

I spent about an hour here, and while I appreciate having the ability to handle all of the small furry critters, I do think that some sort of time out period for the animals during store hours would be wise, like adding lids to the cages that can be easily closed by staff when they feel like a certain cage of animals is getting stressed. However, the first thing that came to my mind was the lack of hand sanitizers. The only way to clean your hands while you are here is to go to the bathroom in the back and wash your hands. I feel like having hand sanitizer available will go a long way in preventing a spread in any sickness between animals and/or people. I watched a kid running over to pet the kittens (7 weeks to 5 months?) after holding the ferrets, picking up rabbit poop, and messing with the dwarf hamsters. Speaking to the health of the animals, the puppies I saw were from the local humane society, and seemed perfectly healthy to me. The cats and kittens they had on hand appeared to also be from a humane society, or some other shelter (There is no sign saying where the cats come from. This is speculation based on my own experience with shelters, and knowing that this is kitten season, so momma cats and their kittens are typically in need of homes or foster care this time of year). One cage with about 6 kittens in it was zip-tied shut so customers couldn't open the door, I'm assuming the reasoning for this was a couple of fleas I saw running through the fur of a little orange and white one. This cage was right next to all the other wire cat cages though, so I will once again assume that they have some sort of flea treatment on the little ones to kill off the fleas they have and to prevent the spread of fleas, since no other cat in another cage had any on them. In terms of staff, they were all high school age. I wouldn't guess the oldest was more than 20 years old. I do think they are in need of an older pet expert of some sort, at the very least to back them up if they get a difficult customer. (If you've worked retail you understand this type, the customer you call your manager over to deal with.) They seemed perfectly prepared for standard operations, when a puppy made a mess in his little play area, they were quick to clean it up. All the animals were fed in a timely manner and had access to clean water. They helped customers find products they were looking for with a helpful attitude. When they asked if I needed any help, I didn't get the feeling they were talking down to me or didn't want to be there. Side Note: I would not suggest bringing a dog with you into the store, because there is a little tan chihuahua (with no leash/collar that can walk around the store, though mostly hangs out behind the counter.) His name is Poppy, he seems very nice, and had no issue with the puppies that were there in the store, but since he isn't on a leash or in an enclosed area behind the counter, if you bring your dog in, and this dog takes offense to that, you put both animals at risk. read more

Me and my girlfriend go here every time we come to longview and usually have a great time. This time it was a little different, it was stormy outside and the power went out. When it did the girl told us very rudely to get out not even a please. So we left. This is not the first time this girl has a super bad attitude. Every time we go there she acts like she doesn't want to be there and don't dare to ask her a question without getting your head bit off. The girl with redish hair is a very hard worker and nice. The girl with brown and blonde curly hair is the one that I am talking about. read more

Went in to this store about 20 min ago. My boyfriend and I were looking to buy a fish and fish tank. As, we will eventually love to have a large collection of fish in our home. A bird that was out caught my boyfriends attention. Mind you, this bird was out of the cage and there was no sign up saying not to touch the bird. Also, there was a lady there petting another bird. So, my boyfriend gently put his hand out to the bird and the young boy behind the counter yelled. "Sir, don't do that!" First off, he yelled at him loudly in front of all the other customers, luckily my boyfriend is a very nice guy and simply responded with "I'm so sorry, does the bird bite?" And his response back was "yes" in a very rude tone. He then stared at us the rest of the time that we were in the store and we left feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed. Second, if the bird bites keep it in the cage and away from people. Now, maybe he was just looking out for our safety. However, our experience in this store prior to today has all been negative as well. The employees stare rudley and get mad when you play with the animals even if there are no signs posted not to. If you don't want people touching the animals, please don't have them out on display. Long story short, we will be going else where to purchase our fish. This was our last visit to this location and we will not be back. read more

NEVER get an animal at Wet Pets & Critters!!! We got a female guinea pig for my daughter at Christmas and had to wait a month for another female for my son (we wanted no babies and to keep both in the same cage to become best friends)......this was to help my kids to learn & play together as they are 8 years apart. The employees (teenagers) did not tell me anything about how to care for guinea pigs when I purchased them, NEITHER TIME; and now we have babies cause we actually ended up with a male. I called the store and the manager told me we have to remove the male from the cage and keep the babies for at least 4 weeks to nurse. That's ALL the advice she gave me. Oh and that sometimes it's hard to tell a female from a male ... REALLY?!?! Aren't you supposed to know more than that if you are selling animals? The only reason I went to Wet Pets was because PETCO didn't have females. I Googled guinea pig babies and found more information on the search page than what they told me, plus contradictions of what the manager told me! Needless to say, I will take the advice from Google! The manager called back and said the owner offered to keep the mom and the babies for the four weeks; then they will keep the babies and our male while we wait on another female. THAT'S IT? First, you would be the LAST place I leave these babies at...just so you can make money off them and not care for the animals...YOU'RE CRAZY LADY!!! Second, we are already attached to the male and I am not about to take my son's pet away because of your mistake...all I wanted from you was a cage so I could separate the male. Why is that so much to ask for? You want to make money off me but aren't willing to offer a suitable cage due to your employees ignorance? It's the pure principle of the matter. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO YOUR STORE!! I should of just waited for PETCO! Not to mention, the store stinks and it was dirty both times I went in. They should close this down for the sake of all the animals!! read more
