Westwood Place is the blink and you'll miss it laneway that is home to the Salvos 614 program (a really cool outreach initiative that's doing wonders) and also to a really creepy but kind of awesome installation art piece.
The Laneway Collection is a bunch of art pieces that have been put in all around Melbourne. You have to dig for them, stumble across them, or (heaven forbid) follow the map that's probably somewhere on the internet.
The one at Westwood Place is incredibly creepy. Turn right from Bourke Road and walk the 10 metres through an alley barely wide enough for one person. Do it quietly. Can you hear the laughter? The calls for Daddy? The pictures of people living in tiny apartments? It's oh so sad, but strangely it's also a little bit positive. Embracing our cultural history and all that jazz. read more
