What an unexpected alley filled with the crowd of people and eateries! It seems so hipster to be huddled in refined cuisines and it's full of culture! It was quite happening on this street to my surprise! I adore the graffiti and sight of Darth Vader in yoga pose form. The artwork is daring and innovating. I enjoyed my time here! Moment captured and lived.

really fun european-looking street with a great selection of cafes to grab a quick bite from or sit down for a nice brunch! so many options to choose from, but it may take a little while to find an open table.

This is a must-do to encounter the sights of the crowds enjoying the long summer days; sounds of chuckling and chatter; smells of the aromatic coffee beans grinding and brewing cured to the way you like it; savory and scrumptious foods of all kinds like the doughnuts, Italian dishes, tapas, burgers, cupcakes, and many other sorts. Select a restaurant to dine at and a table will be available for you to seat outside. Some will have onsite seating as well. Umbrellas all hovered over the tables for best shading. And as always, take away is an option. Soak it all in.....

In A Nutshell: -Degraves Street is a short & narrow alleyway w/ tables settings shared by multiple businesses in the middle. -It gives you a hint of a European-feel, think Spain. -There are a lot of coffee shops, tapas, pizza & wine bars located on this street. Overall, if you are a tourist & want to check it off your bucket list then it's worth the walk, but nothing super-special sticks out.

This street is literally a Melbourne icon and practically defines Melbourne's laneway culture. Well, it goes a little further than that because for a section of the street they have blocked it off and it is lined with tables and chairs that happen to be undercover. Some have suggested that it has a very European feel about it, and I certainly cannot dispute that. In fact it is one of the only places that I know of in Australia that has been set up like the. The other thing is that it also has a rather grungy feel about it, that just adds to the charm of the place. Mind you, the cafes actually aren't as fantastic, but that is a comment left for elsewhere.

Whenever I pass by Degraves Street, I always get a giddy feeling inside from the breathtaking atmosphere. In my opinion, it's like a little bit of Europe, but down under. I've always been attracted to tiny laneways with warm candlelight emitting from tables. Cons: ~ There are many cafes dotted along this street, but unfortunately just by looking at the menus most of the cafes are very similar - there's no variety. It's all just basically Italian. My boyfriend and I sometimes want to stop by to have dinner, but when we're not in the mood for Italian there's not much elsewhere we can go. ~ At night, it's usually pretty cramped. Understandably so, but just keep in mind that if you're hitting this place up with a group of friends, I highly doubt you'll find any tables. Overall, Degraves Street isn't dropdead amazing and could definitely improve, but the cafes are decent (if you're in the mood for Italian) and the atmosphere is amazing. If you're in Melbourne, it's a must-see.

Directly across from Flinders Station, one of the best alleys in Melbourne. Degraves is lined with fantastic cafes, espresso lovers rejoice! Brilliant place for brunch or an afternoon coffee. The street is entirely blocked off and filled with cafe tables shaded with patio umbrellas. Don't skip the cute boutiques - Clementine, Little Book Room, Elegantly Scant are worth checking out.

A must see and do in Melbourne City. Famous Degraves St Laneways, with its many cafes, nooks and crannies, a perfect spot for enjoying a meal, watching the world, as well as having amazing conversations. It's true, when people describe Melbourne as "European", places like Degraves, adds to this feeling of being in an old world European city. The hive of activity is what I like the most, and the choices on offer. It's busy, so the biggest problem you will have is finding a place that isn't already filled. Discover it for yourself!

Melbourne wouldn't be Melbourne without its famed laneways. And arguably the most famous of these is Degraves Street, which you will find approximately halfway between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets, intersecting Flinders Lane. Degraves is such a Melbourne treasure. If you take the time to amble down this cobbled street you will find some of Melbourne's best coffee and most authentic food, as well as little retail gems including vintage shops and a particularly awesome stationery store. There is a also a piece by Banksy on degraves and you will also find some pretty unique street art. Degraves is close to Finders Street Station and is the perfect place to begin a day of exploring Melbourne on foot.

A friend of mine told me that there's a bunch of alleyways all over Melbourne that locals go to filled with restaurants and cafes. And with luck would have it, we stumbled upon this place and instantly fell in love with it. The deeper we go into the alleyway, the more cafes and restaurants we find. So much places to eat! Certainly a must when in Melbourne!

People come from all over the world to see Melbourne's amazing artwork infused lane- ways and Degraves Street is the iconic cobble stone lane-way to show all your friends. On the small strip you will find cafe's, restaurants, and eccentric little shops that will inspire you to move to this great city. Degraves leads into an arcade which has some more shops and exits through to Bourke St mall. Tables are all nestled together and cosy, it has a touristy vibe but you can tell it's still a place the locals come to have coffee. Food wise, the array of restaurants and cafe's should have enough to fill up your stomach but if all else fails there is a Grill'd on the street.

Don't get me wrong, Degraves Street is a very cool spot to hang out and is iconic in terms of being part and parcel of what Melbourne is famous for (ie. laneways); but 5 stars, I'm not so sure. It has really cool street art and is great for people watching but the quality of the food and service at the cafes and restaurants is hugely mixed. The amount of foot traffic for all these places means that at busy times it is so hectic and the standards have to naturally slip somewhat. Generally I'd go to Degraves for good coffee (nowhere near the best in Melbourne) but for food there are so many better places to go to. For a great vibe and just a cool spot, it gets 4. 5? You gotta be kidding me!

The alley ways of Melbourne are part of what defines this city. It would not be the same without little side streets packed with people, cafes, little shops and a hustle and bustle energy that is the life flow of Melbourne. Degraves st is one of the most popular alleys for both Melbournians and tourists alike. My recommendation is to grab a seat at one of the outdoor tables, at any cafe and just soak up the atmosphere. Then sit back, and people watch. There are plenty of shops along the way too, with small specialty stores of all kinds well worth a look . Make sure you take some time to check out the area and all that it has to offer. Note: Avoid the city lunch hour if you can, it will be packed like a can of sardines!

Great cafes await you as well as quality boutiques to browse through. I love Georg Jensen here; in fact all the jewellers here provide great customer service. Keep walking and you will find Myers and DJ's in tandem with more street performers, and not to mention activists wanting support to help free the refugees or to take a stand of capitalism etc. Something would be so wrong with you if you are bored here. Cross the tram tracks (safer to actually cross the road) and you will find the food halls and more treats. Sadly that bistro on the Elizabeth Street side is now closed.
