Folks...there are no words to adequately express the care and thoughtfulness the kind folks at Westwind put into their produce, products and food. As of this review, I've already come to the conclusion that it's the only pizza I ever need to be eating. The last time I had pizza this good was during my all too brief visit to Italy at the tender age of 15 some 35 years ago. Their hard ciders were crisp and totally unique. Alas that I was driving that day and was only able to sample two varieties. We finished with simple yet beautiful desserts baked by their Italian grandmother. Do come here. Often. I attended an event of about 150 people and enjoyed the venue very much, surrounded by the orchard, but with plenty of open space. The service was excellent - everybody moving fast to keep the excellent food replenished. The thin-crust pizza was just the way I liked it, Italian style. Best of all was the cider; there was Raspberry Apple and Goldrush available. It was some of the best cider I've tasted. I came back the next day and bought some bottles. The best place to spend a day in the country. Westwind Orchard is picture perfect -- a chic cider house, comfy outdoor seating, casual atmosphere, all nestled within a stunning organic apple orchard. And as if all this weren't enough to make you want to never leave, the food is outrageously good. The pizza is a sublime (the best I've had outside of Naples), but don't miss the opportunity to have the pasta dishes. These people know how how to cook! I suppose the fact that the farmer owners are Italian has something to do with that. If you're lucky enough to be there when "Nonna Pia," the farmer's mother, is visiting from Rome, be sure to try the desserts. She makes them by hand, and you'll never have better. Oh, and their award-winning ciders are truly delicious. If you're looking for a refreshing experience in the Hudson Valley, this is your place. read more

OMG. Best margarita pizza I've had. Crust was ethereally thin. Sauce so tasty. Also tried the four cheese, which was very good but a bit heavy for the crust -- made great cold leftovers though when the cheese was solid. We initially were hesitant about the combination of cider and Italian food, but the ciders are quite dry and crisp and would go well with anything. Side dish of greens was fabulous, and dessert was great too -- we tried the tiramisu and an ugly cookie. The vibe is hipster cool -- attractive but a bit on the stark side. Doesn't do the food justice. Seating under the arbor was taken when we were there; I imagine that would have been nicer. There are games available like corn hole and ping pong, but though the table is functional the aged vanilla lab that graces the place appears to have gnawed the paddles and balls to a point where play is hard to manage (though we tried!). AVOID ON A BUSY DAY! I wish I could say the food tastes good but I can only say it looks good. On a Saturday afternoon at 1.30 I ordered two pies and was told there was a 40 minute wait. After 60 minutes I was told I was still 7 tickets away (which could be anywhere from 7 to 30-40 pies away!!!) so I got a refund and left!!! I lived in Italy for 15 years so I was looking forward to try pizza made upstate by a real Italian but I'm afraid this place is a bad combination of italian inefficiency, slow upstate timing and inexperienced American college kids making the pizzas. Fabio needs to import some Italian pizzaioli get a bigger oven and tell his staff not to lie about the wait time! read more

Came here to pick apples during peak apple picking season and they didn't have any. Said their crop was hit with a frost. While I understand they may have had the misfortune of a bad crop, I asked if other area orchards had been hit and they said yes...which I later found out was a lie. We ended up picking incredibly expensive raspberries at their orchard instead. And we also ate their horrible $3.50 donuts. The pretentious hipster vibe is above all the worst part about this place.Head for a real orchard and avoid this place. read more

This place is amazing. I've lived in New Jersey or New York City for most of my life, so I have some pretty strong opinions on pizza. The farther I get from the Tri-State area Pizza Belt, the lower my expectations become. The pizza they make here is legit. Their squash blossom pie is one of my favorites in recent memory. The margarita is as good as a margarita can be, and the Funghi was delicious as well. I'm not a big cider fan, but I really liked the ones they make here. They don't have that strong yeasty funk that ruins most ciders for me. It was almost like drinking a white wine varietal. The space is perfect for what they do, open and airy. Prices are in line with what would be charged in NYC, but the quality is there so I can't complain. read more

This review is solely for the apple picking experience--I have not had the pizzas here. Apple picking is a horrendous ripoff. $23 for a 10lb bag of mangy, tough apples that are sparse on the trees?! Outrageous! There are many better and more reasonable places to pick apples in the area. These other places may not have the slick marketing that Westwind does, but they're much better and more representative of Ulster County's agricultural offerings. read more

It's a little expensive and when it's busy they can get a little overwhelmed. But in terms of the experience, I haven't found anything in the area that tops it. If you have kids, it's one of the few places where they can run around and play with other kids. And the pizza is fantastic. read more

An incredibly rewarding experience after the long drive from Brooklyn. We have been coming here since our kiddos were tiny and wouldn't miss a spring or fall trip. They use 100% organic farming methods and are always adding to their rich offerings. You-pick apples and raspberries, pumpkins, honey, maple syrup, and tons of other produce not to mention a nicely curated gift shop. The owners Laura and Fabio are warm and welcoming, clearly passionate about their farm and sharing the fruits of their efforts. The pizza is approaching Lucali level (for Brooklyn pizza lovers, you know what I mean). And our little girls love running around in the fields and riding in the adorable wagons. Westwind is one of the most beautiful places to visit in upstate NY... The owners, Laura and Fabio, are kind, lovely, warm and have exquisite taste in everything from the insanely delicious pizza they serve to the music that is played to the handcrafted items in their shop to the honey and maple syrup they produce. Its a perfect place to bring the entire family -- kids can pick berries/ apples, check out the chickens, pigs and pups, and play with other little ones. There is a real community there so Westwind feels like a family. Warning, on certain summer and fall weekends there can be a little wait for pizza (100% fresh and made on the spot) but I can't think of prettier place to hang out so its a pleasure. read more

The setting is lovely and the pizza is very good, but it's extremely overpriced. 10-11 inch margarita pizza for $15? Pizza with toppings are $18-19. 1/2 glass of hard cider for $7. $5 for a bottle of cold water. In my estimation, it's just not that good. Looking forward to Westwind's pizza's for our Catskills staycation this summer, stocking up before the eclipse tomorrow. Our go to pizza, Ribalta, in NYC is dangerously close to our apt. Up here, we love Westwinds pies, still savoring one from last year. I seem to recall prosciutto and peppers, whatever it was it beckons even tho' it's a bit of a hike for the 'delivery boy'...i.e. me. Such a bummer because I really liked the cider and the scenery of this place. I just left with a really bad taste in my mouth. Let me explain. They offer 3 different varieties of Westwind hard cider. I sampled all 3 from a moody guy behind the counter. My wife and I decided to get a glass each of the classic. It was really tasty! We also got a margarita pizza that was awesome. After sitting at the picnic table finishing our cider we decided we wanted to buy a few bottles of cider to bring home. We went back into the place where the grumpy kid was behind the counter. We asked to buy a bottle of the classic. My wife also really liked this Adam Burr cider they were selling and wanted me to sample that as well because she wanted to also buy that one. So far we had gotten 2 glasses and a bottle of cider. The samples that they offer are measly to begin with but the cranky boy said "You have already hit your sample limit because you tried all 3 of the Westwind varieties and I can only give you 3 samples" Now I totally understand this rule for someone who is taking advantage and just sampling willy nilly and not buying anything. We had already dropped more than $50 bucks (including the pizza) and wanted to drop another $20 for another bottle. I could not believe that we were turned away from trying the sample. It was their loss because they lost out on another sale of a bottle. That is such terrible customer service. It was very tempting to return the bottle of Westwind that we had already purchased but I didn't want to start an argument over something so trivial. It just left a really bad taste in my mouth and I will definitely not be returning! read more

Pizza is out of this world -- what you'd find in best restaurant in NYC -- and the setting is spectacular. Westwind is an amazing sanctuary, unlike any other orchard. Traditional farm activities are elevated with community tables and fires to keep warm, delicious food, and unique offerings in the shop that are ever changing. I had some of the best pizza I've ever had at Westwind Orchard the other day. What a fantastic surprise to eat amazing food outside in the most bucolic atmosphere. I highly recommend taking home some of the delicious provisions while you are there. The raspberry jam is so good and I love the maple syrup. This place is a must visit when in the Hudson valley. THE best place to take kids (or just go yourself, which is what my husband and I did before we had our kid!). Such a beautiful escape from NYC with a cool vibe and incredible pizza fresh from a wood-burning oven. There's apple picking and a great gift shop with everything from custom tees and olive oil to fresh fruit and vegetables. It's owned by a fashion couple who couldn't be nicer -- I look forward to coming to this spot every year. read more

Columbus day offered the most idealistic day at Westwind Orchard with my family. The day and setting was nothing short of spectacular. Upon arriving we could not help but to sample 4 of their organic pizza's - they were all delicious with perfectly crisp crust! The Orchard with the farms home grown raspberries and apples, ricotta and Westwind maple syrup is absolutely delish and not to be missed! Everything is so beautifully curated with obvious love, care and attention to detail -- truly picture perfect -- including the oversized caldron fire pits and the thoughtful blankets provided to sit on the lawn. The day progressed to sampling the orchards homemade sparking apple cider and perusing the farm shop where I purchased a stunning wood cheese board and a hand carved cheese knife. I went home with the farms honey, maple syrup and apple cider vinegar, and a handful of honey squash! An incredibly memorable day, and exactly what our family needed. we have been apple picking with our kids for 20 years and this is by far our most favorite place. we loved the apples. first its not a canned experience with all the same things as many of the other places. it really feels like the farm belongs to a family who is motivated by the love of the farming experience, not just commerce. it is much much smaller than other places and we really like that. the pizza is delicious. The pies and baked goods are amazing, they are made by the owners - laura and fabios mothers (they are in their late 80's/early 90's) from recipes passed down in the family). The spirit is so fun and the shop has great stuff. Everyone was super super nice. I did not feel the slick marketing at all. It is true that it has a curated experience but that is what makes it different from other places. read more
