Wow! Skip from Westside Auto Recycling just delivered a used car battery to our place, and it's like new. Paid not even 1/3 of the retail price. I wish I'd known about him years ago! My battery died and budget is tight, so we went looking for a used or refurbished option. And since the car was completely dead, I especially appreciate that he came directly to us. No tow truck needed! Skip came through with transparency, outstanding customer service, and a price that was truly budget friendly. Skip, thank you. You are a true blessing. I appreciate you! read more

Outstanding service! After attempting to donate my non-operational van with a couple of orgs for "Kids" and "Vets", things stalled when they found out that my vehicle location was located in the parking structure of my condo. Their assigned towing company notified me that their truck would not fit and would not help me push the van outside of the structure. Skip had a truck with an adjustable boom so it would my height limitations. Donnie, the driver assisted me in getting the van out of my parking stall w/o violating any of his insurance requirements and was able to hook it up to his tow truck and get it out out the garage. Skip arranged for pick up the same day that I called eventhough I was a little out of his service area. Thank you Westside Auto Recycling! read more

Skip and his team was my last resource to get my car off the street. Called at 9:30 am and by 11:30 am it was taken care of. I choose to call WAR first due to the outstanding reviews and he didn't disappoint. Highly recommend giving Skip a call! read more

I would like to tell you about my experience with SKIP, DONNIE and WESTSIDE AUTO RECYCLING. Due to my Mother passing, I had to get her house ready to put on the market. My Mom had a non-operation truck and camper in her backyard that needed to be removed. I called several recycling / car buying / donation places in the L.A. / Santa Monica area. Most companies were rude, uninformed or simply didn't answer the phone. The people or robots I dealt with, asked a million questions, only to say days later they didn't accept campers. My opening statements to all was "I have a truck with a CAMPER". I was so frustrated by the unprofessionalism in this industry. Reluctantly I got back on internet and saw WESTSIDE AUTO RECYCLE. I read some great reviews so I decided to try one more company. Being the weekend, I expected to leave a message. Much to my surprise, a friendly gentleman named SKIP answered the phone and was eager to assist. Within one hour SKIP came to the house to see what needed to be removed. Not only was he nice and knowledgable, he was empathetic to my situation. SKIP said he would return days later, with a Tow Truck and Donnie the driver and attempt the removal. I live in Orange County and the drive to Santa Monica on weekends usually takes 2-3 hours. This meant I had to trust SKIP on his word he would return. Much to my surprise, I received a confirming phone call the day before our scheduled pick up. On the pick up date, DONNIE called in the morning and kept me updated. Upon arrival, SKIP & DONNIE of WESTSIDE AUTO RECYCLING were able to removed the truck and camper! I was elated with their OUTSTANDING service, promptness and reasonable pricing. I have been a business owner over 40 years and an R.N. for 38 years. I admit, I am a little jaded and do not hand out compliments easily nor do I do many reviews. However when the service is so OUTSTANDING, it has to be recognized! SKIP, DONNIE and WESTSIDE AUTO RECYCLING are an EXCELLENT business to deal with. 5 STAR rating is not enough. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company! THANK YOU for helping me in my time of need!!! read more

Places like these don't exist anymore. Sure, there are plenty of similar businesses, but you won't find anyone like the two men behind this business; Skip and Donnie. My mother needed to get rid of the family car that had long served its purpose. Being unfamiliar with these processes, it was a blessing that she found WSAR. From start to finish, they were kind, patient, and so helpful! Even when we hit a snag in the online transfer process, Skip was there to answer all of our questions. Excellent customer service isn't dead. It is alive and thriving at West Side Auto Recycling. read more

WOW - 10/10 service, kindness and deal! Our 250k mile SUV had finally said enough. Was unmovable on the street and with street cleaning coming up, needed to make a move fast. Skip came out the same day and solved all of our problems! Even going slightly after hours, he was there to help navigate the situation, without any negativity. Highly recommended!! read more

I had a non-operational car in my apt parking garage. I got a notice from the landlord to get the car operational or move it - in two weeks. I tried to donate it, but it would require coordinating between several services and I was stressing because of the time constraint. I yelped other local tow companies and read some scary stories! I read the reviews on Westside Auto Recycling and how helpful Skip the owner was, and that's what I wanted: help! I called and got Skip, and, as I poured out my story, I think he could tell I was nearly crying trying to solve this. He was kind, told me he could help me, and that he would work with me every step of the way. He took the time to reassure me: who does that these days? Yes, I had the title ready. Yes, it would need a low tow truck since the parking garage height was low. Yes, the tires were flat. Skip told me his tech Donny (hope I spelled his name right) would call and take good care of me. Donny called me when he was on his way. He expertly extracted the vehicle even with other cars parked next to mine. The tires were too deflated for the road tow, so Skip came over right away and brought an air compressor thing and they inflated the tires for the drive to the junkyard. These two guys were helpful, patient, and solved my situation same day. I am so grateful that I found them! Real decent guys in a world that's forgotten what good customer service really means! read more

wasn't sure what to do with my car after being involved in an accident that rendered it totaled. Spoke with Skip whos first order of business was to ensure I was okay. Second order of business was getting the vehicle towed and taken care of. In a society where good honest people are hard to come by it was an exceptional and easy experience all things considered. Skip made the process very clear and easy. Before finding WSAR Co. I ended up fielding loads of spam calls after getting an estimate from another salvage service. Being able to call the number listed, speak to Skip and have him make it incredibly easy was invaluable. Great business with kind, honest folks. Would definitely do business with them again.

Had an old car in my underground parking garage at my apartment complex that I had neglected and I needed to get rid of prior to a move. Called Westside Auto Recycling. Scheduled a time with Skip, and he came out to assess the situation. About an hour later, Donny showed up, got the car jumped and out of the garage, and out of my hair. Excellent communication and customer service with them the whole time. Glad I called them, and would definitely recommend them for any towing or car removal needs! read more

A family mental health crisis resulted in us having to deal with an abandoned car in an apartment complex that was about to start fining us for every day it sat there. It was time to get rid of an old car that I had kept pouring money into, and then it still wouldn't pass smog check. Westside made this process so easy! Communication was great- calls were always returned promptly. Their tow driver, Donnie, called and arranged a time that was most convenient for me -and then he showed up right on time. He was very gracious when he had to jump start the battery when it wouldn't start, and was just pleasant and helpful all around. It was a pleasure doing business with a company that truly treats their customers right. I wouldn't hesitate to refer others to them! read more

Someone had stolen the catalytic converter out of my Prius, and it was dead in the water. It was sitting in my apartment parking garage. I tried to donate my car, but that somehow proved far more challenging than simply recycling it. I discovered Westside Auto based on the reviews, and am so glad I went with them. Skip is an absolute delight. He expertly checked the car while listening to my story as we sat waiting for the tow truck, and offered some advice on looking for a new car. He was unbelievably compassionate, and he runs his business with a level of integrity uncommon for this city. Absolutely recommend. read more

Skip and Donnie are my HEROES!!! Two days ago I called Skip in a total panic --- my husband I are leaving next week for a year's travels and are renting out our condo to finance our bucket-list retirement dream. But there was one major obstacle that could prevent us from going -- the 25-year-old car that hasn't worked since 2009 that was in the garage parking space we needed to free up for our tenant. For years my husband had intended to clear up the error the DMV had made --- they had put the wrong car on non-operational status back in 2009 --- but he never got around to it. BIG MISTAKE!!! When he tried to donate the car to several charities last week, they couldn't take it. When he called our assemblyperson's office last week to help resolve the DMV issue, they said it could take weeks. Anxiety doesn't begin to explain how we were feeling as we faced the prospect of our dream trip disappearing before our eyes because of the clunker in our garage! Skip agreed to take the car, and today his tow-truck driver Donnie to extract it from the garage. When he arrived he had doubts that his truck would be able to clear the low ceiling while towing the car out, but he said he'd give it a try. He also promised that if that wasn't possible, he would somehow find a way to get the car out for us. All the while that he worked, he was calm, cheerful and reassuring. When he managed to tow it out after about forty-five minutes, I asked if I could give him a hug. Sometime the cavalry doesn't arrive on a horse, it rides in on a tow truck! Skip and Donnie didn't merely salvage a car, they probably saved a marriage! I had been after my husband for YEARS to get rid of the car and his procrastination almost cost us our dream trip. After a week of tension, yelling and poor sleeping, we can FINALLy put the 15-year saga of the car behind us and move on! Let the travels begin! THANK YOU, SKIP and DONNIE!!! read more

Had an old 90's car that was falling apart at the seams. Decided to try this business after the glowing reviews. Was really impressed in talking to the owner Skip who was candid with me even before I had them inspect the car. Once I did request an inspection I was given a 2hr window when the tow hauler would arrive. That gentleman was also very helpful and friendly and gave us a decent amount for the old ride. Really appreciate dealing with a business who has served the community well for decades and took care of my needs efficiently. read more

I needed to get rid of my car cause it was just unresponsive and fixing it would cost more than what the car is valued at. So the first provider that I contacted was unreliable because they affirmed they could remove my vehicle from my parking space but after I spoke with their dispatcher they canceled my pickup because of the same reason they accepted the job in the first place. Rightfully frustrated I was looking for another company that would be able to recycle my car and I found this place. Skip was so responsive and quick to help alleviate the problem that I was helping I saw results right then and there. He came by my residence, pulled the car out of the garage and told me a joke that made me laugh way too hard for a Friday. Great customer service all around from these folks and if I do need another car recycled, they are definitely the first people that I will call for. And thank you Skip for being upfront and honest about your abilities and I see why you've been in business for 30 years. read more

We've had a very old car sitting in our driveway since the start of the pandemic and finally got around to taking care of it this week. What may have been a confusing and frustrating process was made quick and easy by Skip and his team! They were able to come out the same day we called to take a look at our car and haul it away. Even though it was dead and had a very busted tire, they were able to move it out of our driveway with no problems. Skip was a great communicator and so kind - we loved working with him! He even helped us fill out some required paperwork with the DMV so we wouldn't have to worry about doing it ourselves. The entire process took under an hour, and we even came away with some delightful stories about LA back in the 80s. When my ancient car finally broke down for good, I knew I had to find a way to get rid of it. Such a good guy and really helped me out during an otherwise traumatic time. My Toyota Corolla hydroplaned on Sunset during the first rain of the season and ended up hitting the curb and rolling--with me inside it! It was completely totaled. After I crawled out of the broken window and was waiting on the side of the road for the police and ambulance to come, an unscrupulous tow truck came along and used its AAA logo on the side of its truck to get me to trust them without asking any questions in my dazed and shocked state. The tow truck hauled my car away to their lot after the police cleared it, making me pay cash and not giving me a receipt, handing me a business card I didn't realize until later didn't even have the guy's name on it. When I called up the next day to see what could be done about the car, the company tried to pretend I hadn't paid them and told me I now owed them for overnight storage! Then they wanted me to pay them to junk the car! Westside to the rescue! It was the first company I called after a google search, and as soon as he heard where my car was, he told me that tow company has a terrible reputation and will try to take advantage of me. He suggested I call AAA immediately to complain, and he offered to meet me over there in a couple of hours to get the car out of there. He showed up right on time and waited over half an hour with me for the shady tow truck guys to actually show up and open the yard to get my car out. They tried several more times along the way to tell me I owed them more money over the phone, but as soon as they got there and saw I had someone with me, they gave up and gave us the car. He hauled it out of there quick as can be, gave me time to clean out the last of my belongings, and paid me a fair $100 cash for what was really a completely totaled car without much left to salvage. Thanks Westside! As a woman on my own in the middle of a very traumatic 24 hours, I knew immediately on the phone that this was a straight shooter and someone I could trust not to take advantage. read more
