We selected FairHaven Funeral and Cremation as the one to handle the prearrangement for our dear friend, Lore. Prior to the final day of Lore's life, my wife and I had a meeting with Steve to make those arrangements as required. Steve was most knowledgeable and showed great compassion in these times of need. As it happens, the service was actually needed the very next day! A call to FairHaven was made and from that one call, the process was transparent and went flawless. The necessary actions were done in accordance with the wishes of the family and all relevant coordinating actions needed between the Hospital, funeral home, and the cemetery involved was done in a timely manner. The actual date of burial was arranged, the transportation of the deceased was determined and arranged for the time of the simple burial ceremony. The whole process was performed in a most professional manner. The complete procedure to include getting the copies of Death Certificates, all speak volumes of the sincere desire to do what is necessary with the least amount of inconvenience to the grieving family. They've used them in the past- praising their work and professionalism. So my family and I went with them. They took my mom from the Piedmont Hospital and from there took very good care of her. We had a meeting the same day she passed and they were very sympathetic and patient with all our questions. We ended up purchasing a beautiful white casket. The following week we had the visitation there at the funeral home, service at the church, and the burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina. The most memorable moment for me is the slideshow at the visitation. Amy the receptionist did an amazing job with the pictures we picked out. The music and the way it was assembled brought tears to many included myself. It displayed living her life to the fullest. I was impressed with the website. It showed the obituary, the dates and times of the funeral, leaving comments, and if you would like to purchase flowers. When your loved one passes away, it's stressful and the most difficult part of your life, but Thomas Poteet made this transition so easy. The communication was on point and the staff was very sincere and understanding. My family would like to thank you for your service and watching over my mother.

Each room has TV screens for memorial videos and photo sharing and the music selection is representative of positive thoughts and memory sharing. The staff is very kind and respectful about meeting all your needs and providing all the time needed for mourning, receiving lines and conversation. I made it clear that I was not under a time restraint and I had time to make the right decision. The lady that I spoke with, not only tried to convince me to get things I didn't want, she also tried to convince me to sign a contract before I left. Telling me that if anyone else needs to sign, that they can come in later. I understand that they are in the business to make money, but to take advantage of someone doing this time is unacceptable. This was not only displayed throughout the service but also during the business aspect of the process. Now to fast track ahead one year after mom was buried. On Memorial day this year (2019) family went to the graveyard to pay our honors. We drove down from ATL. We were heartbroken and saddened when we got there that a headstone had not been ordered and placed on mom's site as was promised (family member). So, hubby and I called Mr. Reid (Sr) for guidance and direction (a year later!). He remembered us. His service did not stop last Spring. when mom passed but he treated us as though we were still his customers. We were very touched and will follow through with his directions. I rated this funeral home with a 4 star only because they could use an update on some of their aesthetics (looks) ... modernize the facility.
