I'm going for a simple and straightforward review of a great local establishment. I travel for work and Westover is one of those places that always makes me feel like I'm finally back home.... Food: BOMB SANDWICHES!! Can't go wrong with any of them. Sides excellent as well! Service: The best customer service, PERIOD. These are some of the nicest, most down to earth and friendly people you'll ever encounter.... Ambiance: Well it's a sandwich shop and a cool little store. Honey glazed ham 9/10 Egg salad 9/10 I am from San Antonio Texas. I came out to the area to visit family and happened to get a side job in Edenton, NC. A customer told me these were the best subs he has ever had. I was not disappointed. I got a honey glazed ham sub with mayo salad tomato and cucumber. The bread was fresh, the meat was very tasty. The egg salad was amazing, tasted like a deviled egg without the paprika. It is also made fresh to order. I just regret not bringing more people to taste different subs The place has 6 tables and a counter with 4 stools. read more

Sorry but despite all the nice reviews, this is not a destination unless you have no other choice. It's crowded and the waits are long but basically you are getting processed meats and sandwiches, very salty hot dogs, and sodas. I would not come back here. read more

There are not a lot of restaurants in Edenton, NC. Westover General Store is definitely a hidden treasure! Part gas station, part convenience store (with fishing tackler, etc), and part grill for take out or a small area to eat in. If it hadn't been recommended by the host where we stayed as having the best $5 Reuben around (and we are suckers for a good Reuben), I'm not sure we would have realized it was there. The bread was perfectly done on the sandwich. Most times with Reubens, they end up with semi soggy bread on the second half because of all the juices, but not here. It was perfect. I also had their cream of potato soup because it was a chilly day, and my husband had a hot dog (which was a 1/4 lb!), and macaroni salad. The staff was super friendly and gave us a recommendation for dinner since we were from out of town. I saw a review that said cash only. Maybe they have changed because now they take cards for purchases over $4. We will definitely be back if we are in the area again one day. read more

This is my absolute favorite sandwich shop in the WORLD. Prices are fantastic and the sandwiches are incredible. The service is always friendly but be prepared for a little bit of a wait if you go during lunch time because it is a popular place. If you leave a bad review at this establishment, either it was a very odd day, or you are a pretentious twat. This is my most favorite establishment since we moved here in 2016. Doug and Rachael are just the kindest down to earth folk anyone could ask for. Very welcoming, and accommodating. Yes! When you go to Westover Deli you may have to wait if you go during a prime time. You may also have to try a few times to get your phone order thru. But, isn't that the biggest positive review any food place can have? The reason why people are willing to wait in line and redial to place a phone order is because Westover Deli has the BEST quality for the price in the area! OH! MY!! STARS!!! Thank you Yelp for making our lunch worthwhile. This sandwich shop is totally deceiving but 100% surprising. If you're looking for a bite to eat while passing through then look no further. This place served up the best sandwich ever!! Like top five list, world wide! Personally, I struggle to recall the last time that I had such an outstanding sandwich. We shared an Italian panini. Although it was big enough for the two of us, in hindsight we should've each purchased one. But we didn't know what was good. At any rate, outstanding sandwich, bar none. Hands down. The bread was flavorful and the sandwich itself? What was in that thing? Just please go try it for yourself. I'm gonna be dreaming of this sandwich until the next time that we have the pleasure of visiting Edenton. Cash only folks. Westover has some of the best food in Edenton, and by far the best sandwiches! Actually, they have the best sandwich I've had ANYWHERE. You will never be able to go back to a chain sub restaurant after having one of theirs. I always get the turkey sub and my husband always gets pastrami...why mess with a good thing? (I've had their paninis as well, also exceptional). We always call ahead (I have them in my contacts list!) and pick up but it doesn't take long if you order there either. It is a convenience store as well so you can buy chips, drinks, or snacks to go along with your sandwich. There is a small seating area in the back but we always get ours to go. You wouldn't expect more than an old convenience store by the looks of the outside but it is a hidden gem for SURE! I usually post pictures of the food but I realized I don't have a picture of a sub from Westover because I always devour it too quickly! read more

Great sandwiches. The deli meats and cheeses are cut fresh right in front of you. The meatballs are amazingly good! They have these buffalo sausage bites called Sausage Smackers that are awesome too! This is where the locals go in Edenton for a good bite....the prices for the amount you get and the high quality are cheap. This is a real diamond in the rough! This place is an old gas station with the best Sub I have had in Years. Local owners very nice, When I walked in it was packed it took me a few minutes to order and the sandwich was done in about 10 minutes. There isn't much in this region. I travel the rural stretches for work, so even modestly touristy areas like Edenton are a welcome sight. This little store is great spot. This is out of town and a favorite for the locals. They have been in business 28 years and provide excellent service. Yes you can get soda, beer and snacks but the big draw are the subs. Quite a variety from cold to hot subs. Generous amounts of meats. Great salads including both macaroni and potato salad. Very busy from around 11 AM to 1:30 PM. You can call in your order. They also do cold cuts for take out. A lot of Boars Head Brand meats. They can sell you a fishing license but go early in the morning or mid afternoon to get that. read more
