It goes by a different name now: Sternwheeler That's the name when I stayed. There are so many quaint places with a friendly and warm welcome. . . Just go elsewhere. It's not an authentic experience in either the hotel or restaurant. It's run by some folks from India and the service and mood around this place is one of pinching pennies. It's ok. But If it's the only room left in town on my way in, I keep going. Plenty of country B&B's, cabins or the next town. read more

Outdated but clean. Front desk staff was nice but restaurant service was terrible. Seat yourself restaurant. Staff walked by us four times and ignored us. After a good amount of time passed we just got up and left. For what they charge, I think the hotel should be nicer and up to date. read more

Hotel is a little old. Parking sucks and the layout is super confusing. I was given my key with a slight nod to go "that way" and got lost a little. The signs are quite confusing. Linens were nice and pristine white. Room was clean, but wallpaper is peaking off walls. No AC but they did provide one in room so that was nice. Overall I'd come back for a one night stay but maybe not for a nice vacation. read more

Dirty poor shape and infested with bedbugs on 2nd floor. Alive and crawling on the pillow. This hotel is in very bad shape, run down and surviving on Holland America cruise contract business for now. Staff is polite, bed linen and towels are clean but I would never have expected a Westmark hotel to be so substandard. read more

Have stayed here two seperate occasions this week in two different rooms. Basic to ne sure, both of them were poor at best. The first room had two dingy double beds with linens that put 30 grit sandpaper to the test. The second room had a king bed and half of it was slanted so much that i actually jad to protect my head from colliding with the bedside table. On both occasions, winter, but a mild -8c and -2c respectively; they actively tried to cook us. Upon arrival the thermomstat set to a sraggering 28c and despite reducing to only 8c, before leaving for the evening the temperature dropped to only 25c over the course of 8 hours. On our second stay we opened the window to the mild winter air and received a wake up call to tell us that leaving the window open would cause the pipes to freeze. If the pipes were going to freeze a -2c then the window is the least of your worries. Do not stay here, we have stayed at both the high country and gold rush, both substantially better. read more

Absolutely terrible - we have made this trip from the US to Alaska and back several times. This was our first time staying at the Westmark in Whitehorse. No hot water in our room so after a very long day on the road, and two cranky boys, they were even less impressed when we attempted to give them a shower and the water was ICE COLD. I tried everything, letting it run for upwards of 20m. Then called the front desk whose only solution was for ya to pick up and move to a different room at nearly 11pm when we had another very long day on the road the following morning. I mentioned it to the front desk person upon checkout and was told to email the manager. I may be jumping the gun and will gladly update/remove this review if the results are satisfactory but with the amount of $ we spent for a night at this place, we should have had hot water. read more

I stayed at the Westmark Whitehorse in Whitehorse, YT (Canada) on 8/13/2014. It was my 1st time there. I was pleased with my stay there as the hotel has a very convenient location. I attended the Frantic Follies show inside the hotel as well as having dinner at their restaurant. My spaghetti dinner cost was $19.95 (bison meat) but my room cost was included in my package tour with Holland-America. Plus, I took photos. read more

Eh... I stayed here a week ago because the Skky was full. The staff here are very polite and eager to please. The hotel is pretty clean, but dated. The hallways and main hotel are nice and air conditioned... BUT THE ROOMS ARE NOT. Seriously, what the hell? That sucked big time. They did supply a fan in the room which helped a little, but even though I brought my own box fan and had BOTH running on high all night, the room and almost unbearably hot. I think in the winter it would be better but in the summer it's an oven. The worst problem with the Westmark is lack of parking. The front has about a dozen spots and the back has another 10. The hotel serves much, MUCH more. So we had to find a spot early afternoon when people were leaving, park the van, and not move it for the rest of our stay for fear of losing our spot and having to park a block away. So we wound up walking all over Whitehorse. Unfortunately that's the big reason I won't stay here unless I'm out of options. I'm not willing to park my vehicle a block away and risk something happening to it. read more

The hotel is old and dingy. Upon entering the room I looked at the bed and thought there is no way I'm getting in there to sleep. The bathroom had a sign that said "If you need to dispose of syringes or other medical supplies please contact the front desk " I really don't think they were talking about medical supples. There were people smoking pot right outside the entry door as well. We checked out without staying the night and found another hotel. I have stayed in a lot of hotels in my life but I never checked out and found another place without staying at least one night. This place is clearly a definite no for me. read more

Not good! We were desperate because a reservation at another hotel was messed up. Booked based on on line pictures. What a craphole. Ok - I got it, it is remote but remote does not mean dirty. I do not think the carpet has ever been cleaned, marks all over the walls, stains all over the ceilings. On The plus side the sheets were clean and the bed small but comfortable. It was expensive but that is the Yukon in general. They have a contract with the cruise lines so I think it keeps them afloat. Stay someplace else. read more

The room was adequate (but just barely) for a one night stay but the customer service was dismal. When I checked in the staff member basically told me at the end of our transaction that I "was done and could go." No, "Please enjoy your stay" or anything pleasant. I just chalked it up to one shitty employee. Went to the room and tried to use wifi. No dice. Tried calling the front desk. No answer. Had to walk back down. Another woman acknowledges me (after I stand around for a few minutes while she attempted to avoid eye contact with me) and I tell her the problem. She had to "activate" the wifi for the room and gives me the username and password. Why was this not provided at check-in? Later, my friend wanted to use an international calling card to call her husband back in the U.S. She followed the instructions on the in-room phone. She gets an operator, who tells her she has to activate the phone. Really? Are we that miserly Westmark? Finally when I went to check out I asked for my invoice. I was told that I could not be given one because I had purchased through Expedia. Uh...I've booked through Expedia for my last 4 nights and no other hotel had a problem. This hotel would have rated a 3.5 if the customer service had been better. However, when a hotel is shown up by a Super 8 Hotel in Ft Nelson, they've got problems. read more

Convenient location downtown. Limited parking, but did find a place during Yukon Quest week. Decent price for a room with a small pet, though the room did smell a little. First floor room and heard traffic upstairs. Had to pay $7 for wifi access. Decent bed. Clean room. Hotel bar has local brew and a decent steak sandwich. read more

This is clearly an aging hotel with much needed renovations. When walking into the main lobby i felt that i stepped back in time about 50 years. The floors in the hallways and rooms are uneven and slanted as you try and find your room in the split level maze. The parking to the hotel is less than desirable. Very limited spacing and very dark when parking in the back. There were several people lingering around outside the hotel at the entrances and near peoples cars that did not appear to be guests. Our room to our surprise was clean and more updated than the lobby and halls. The bed was average comfort and the linens and bathroom were very clean. However when calling the front desk for the wifi password i was told there isnt one when my phone was asking for one. I feel that it was a battle for him to tell me the password. Its an okay hotel if your passing through and desperately need a place to stay. read more

Chose the Westmark because I have stayed in other hotels of this chain located in Alaska and have been very pleased. The check in/out process, restaurant, bar and all hotel staff were friendly, professional and helpful whenever I needed them. I am very impressed that after a busy summer season, the staff still cares about the people who stay here. Service at this hotel is 5 stars. The restaurant and bar looked good. My only complaint is that they have bison on the menu as burgers, meat balls, stew and they were out of all of them and those were the items that drew me to dine here. The property appears to be an older property (older properties built to different codes and door jams at different height standards) and if you are taller than 6 foot 5 inches, 77 inches or 195 cm then I would watch your head because you are going to hit it on a door frame or on the sprinkler system. There are also cleanliness issues. Carpets had stains, bathroom fan was dirty, grout in the bathroom was several colors and there was dust on every surface above 5 ft tall. To strive and succeed with service but to put so little in a clean property or to have a fully stocked kitchen is so sad because what could be 5 stars is now 3 stars. read more

Our stay was very stressful. There wasnt any parking. We were told to park in metered parking in the street. We finally fought and won the spot for maintenance. They must be more important than guests. The first room we were given had a standard bed and a 3/4 bed. Dingy and small room. We went downstairs to the front desk and asked for a different room. Were told there weren't any upgrade s but did get a different room. No one offered to help move our things Our party consisted of an 83 yr old woman and 2 other women with medical issues. The other room was as bad . When 2 sat at the end of the bed, the mattress flipped up. We again complained and received an " upgrade" which we had been told didn't exist. Again no help. This room was OK but would compare more to a Super 8. This is NOT a luxurious hotel as they advertise. Next time we will find a different place. read more

We stayed at the Whitehorse Westmark in early May, 2015. The front desk staff was attentive and helpful, but accidentally gave us a room that was being renovated. They corrected the error immediately when we notified them. There is no AC in the rooms - ours was stiflingly hot, and we were on the ground floor nearest the street, so we couldn't open the window due to the significant numbers of drunken locals roaming around the immediate area (one was being carried out of the hotel by EMTs as we checked in). The parking situation is extremely limited - they have only two small parking lots of maybe 20-25 car capacity each, and we were told that if they were full to use a government parking lot nearby that was unused on weekends. If you're driving in, be aware that space for single vehicles is very limited, and space for any kind of vehicle with a trailer or oversized truck is nonexistent. The bed on our room was very worn out and uncomfortable, and our room lacked the advertised refrigerator (though that may have been an error on tripadvisor's part). The attached restaurant to the hotel was very nice, with decent but overpriced food. I recommend the Bison Burger. All in all, I would consider staying at the Westmark again only in the winter, and outside of tourist season to guarantee parking. read more

When we arrived there seemed to be about 20 parking spaces for 180 rooms. The employees told us to park in metered spots on the street after hours . Not convenient. Also, we booked our room through Expedia, and it was advertised as providing free wi-fi in the rooms. The hotel staff said that Expedia was wrong, and that wi-fi cost $6.50 every 24 hours. Convenient location, perfectly adequate room. Love the plugs in the bedside lamps that make it easy to charge a phone over night. Some reviews seem to be written by very needy people, this place is great. Nice rooms, food and service in the restaurant is great. People complain about having to park in metred parking after hours. Why? It's free and right outside the hotel. I would recommend this place. read more
