Celebrating a recent milestone anniversary, my husband and I spent three wonderful nights here…read more Seeing the Northern Lights is top on my bucket list and eating his way through Seoul is his. I'm glad one of us was able to fulfill one of our bucket list items on this trip. Northern Lights Resort and Spa is in Whitehorse, Canada in the Yukon. It is about a 2.5 hour flight from Vancouver. Upon landing, we were greeted at the gate by Richard, one of the resort's employees. He grabbed our luggage for us and drove us to the resort, about 20 minutes from the airport. He gave us a brief history lesson on Whitehorse. At the resort, we were greeted by Tobi, who owns and manages the resort with his wife, Lynn. Tobi showed us to our glass chalet with floor to ceiling windows for the best Northern Lights viewing, a fireplace and heated floors. Each chalet also has an alarm where the staff will ring to wake you if the lights are visible. For dinner, we joined the other guests in the main cabin. Meals are all eaten together with the other guests. The resort has 8 chalets and only hosts up to 16 guests at a time. It was a nice, intimate experience that allowed us to meet and get to know other people from across the world. The food for every meal we had there was exceptional. James, the main chef, created every dish with detail and taste. For lunch one day, he made an elk and beef chili which I was hesitant to try. It turned out to be one of the best chilis I've ever had and I cleaned the bowl! Patrick, who was our dinner server, tour guide and hike leader was another incredible staff member. His kindness and knowledge of Whitehorse and the Yukon made our time there so valued. Uliya, our breakfast server, bonfire queen, and spectacular photographer added another wonderful layer to our trip. She was outside in the freezing cold every night making sure we were taken care of. Our experience included some extracurricular activities such as dog sledding and a Whitehorse tour. I don't have enough words to describe how much I enjoyed our time here. Being fortunate enough to see the lights two out of the three nights added that much more to the experience. I hope I can visit again one day!

Especially in the snow since no one knows how to park reasonably when they can't see the lines. But this isn't necessarily on the hotel. The lobby was super clean and welcoming and had a lot of character. Didn't feel dated at all. The front desk was very personable and made it easy to book without a prior reservation. We were given a suite on the second floor. Wow! What space! The kitchenette was so cute and actually really functional. There was even a built in stove! We had two mini fridges that were actually cold enough inside to do their job. I still don't understand why most hotel fridges aren't cold. We had a little control over our room temperature, but it stayed a bit too warm through the night. Our bathroom was wonderful though! Full size toiletries and a large garden tub. Everything was really clean and approachable. The jets in the tub didn't work so that was a little disappointing. Our bed was soft, clean, and comfortable. Our dogs loved the long room and all the space they had to play. The hotel was super welcoming to having our pups. We were thankful to only be on the second floor since we were on the road, moving, and had a lot of our things pieced out. The card reader protected floors were a nice added level of security since their was the presence of the restaurant/bar. The only downside to the location of our room was the noise level coming up from the bar and restaurant. It made our dogs very uneasy and on edge through the night. Thankfully they finally settled down around 3a, but it definitely kept us all awake. Otherwise, the stay was great! Super convenient location and even walkable!

Great Location | Great Cabins | Great Amenities $$…read more We went to the Yukon with family and friends for Thanksgiving. We were a group of 10! Three stayed in Fireweed cabin, three stayed in Raven's Nest studio, and four of us stayed in Panorama cabin. PERFECT. It's about a 30 minute drive from the airport. Easy to navigate, good roads. We liked this location because it is quiet, a little less light pollution from downtown Whitehorse, and lots of land to roam around. My family stayed in the Panorama cabin. I believe it was the owners' home before they expanded on the property! So, we had 2 rooms, 1 bathroom, full kitchen, tv, and overall plenty of space for the four of us. The main bedroom had what looked like a queen bed and a single/double across from it. In the room we stayed at, the second one, it was a bunk bed -- double on the bottom and single on top. PANORAMA CABIN When we first entered our cabin, it was super warm! That was really nice especially coming in from the cold weather at night. Lights were on and everything was ready and neatly laid out. No wifi in the cabins except if you're staying at Raven's Next studio. It didn't bother me and my husband, but my parents really had preferred the Internet. Panorama was such a cozy cabin. The view from the entrance is pretty. You are by a lot of trees and can walk out to this field close by. It's also right across from Fireweed cabin. **Note: you can plug your car to the electric outlet located outside of the house on the right side. It keeps your car warm so you don't have problems in the morning trying to start it. None of us experienced any problems. FIREWEED CABIN One of our friend's family stayed there. It's a bit smaller than the Panorama cabin but just as cozy. I believe there are two rooms as well, a kitchen, and bathroom. They said they enjoyed their stay. It was perfect for the three of them. RAVENS NEXT STUDIO Our other friend's family stayed here. It is located above the Sun room. The Sun room is a community space with wifi, sauna, bathroom/shower, conference table seating, couches, games....etc. It also leads to this extra large space used for event gatherings. The Raven's Studio is the smallest of our group's rentals. They have a great view, though. One bedroom and one bathroom. The other bed is a futon in the main family room with a kitchen. Very cozy and nice inside. Our friends said the heat from the sauna downstairs rises and warms up one part of their cabin, so shedding some layers will definitely happen. There are other places to stay on this property, but we didn't occupy them. There's a nice main house where the owners stay. We met them and they are SO friendly and helpful!! They convinced us to do dog sledding with Muktuk Adventures (read my 5-star review on them), and it turned out to be the highlight of the trip! Oh, there's also a hot tub right outside of the Sun room/Raven's Nest Studio. The other thing worth mentioning about this great place is the two small viewing rooms built especially for viewing the aurora borealis! One is Aurora and the other room cabin is Borealis. Both are equipped with sofas, some snacks, utensils, and a heater to keep you warm. Next to those viewing cabins is a fire pit. You have to notify the owners the night before if you plan on using them though. Lots of firewood already cut and sitting outside. Overall, we had a lovely stay with Sundog, and we would love to come back one day!

I was able to watch the Auroras from a hot tub and then take a sauna before heading off to bed! I could tell from the moment that Andrew, the proprietor picked us up at the airport, that this was going to be a great experience and I was proven right!

Part of our family was recently transferred by the US military and the route took us through this part of Canada. We were fortunate enough to make reservations at what looked online like a beautiful "Hotel with a Restaurant, pet and kid friendly" Upon arrival we found this was at best a "Bed and Breakfast" in a beautiful lakeside home with bedrooms for rent. I think the owner was as surprised as we were when we all piled out of two vehicles and a trailer weary from a long day on the Alcan. We went in to "Check-in" and were met by who we assume was the "Chef" at the house who asked if we would be having dinner with them and when we responded no he said "Good". Wasn't sure what to think of that. There was just an uncomfortableness about the place. Over the next half hour while we found out this was no place for our kids, grandkids or pets, my son in law tried to cancel our reservations. Well ...... this is where I'm torn. There was a no cancellation policy which meant no refund at all. No consideration. Just no. While I understand he has every right to adhere strictly to his policies, I was surprised there was no consideration at all. Now mind you this is not anywhere near another place to stay in the winter and in the Yukon. Another two and a half hours to the next town where we found a room. Please don't misunderstand that I am admitting that we were responsible for getting all the information before making the reservations. I think that this type of establishment may do some further vetting of who is making reservations to assure they know exactly what they are getting.
