We were coming in after a long day driving from Tok, AK. We had delays due to -40' weather, but we still managed to arrive around 9:00pm to Casey's Bed and Breakfast. We were all tired, hungry and looking forward to our stay at Carol's place. My husband and I were traveling with another couple and our two dogs. We planned and booked this trip in November. We did quite a bit of research to accommodate all 4 of us, 2 dogs and two large vehicles, one with a trailer. Upon arrival, I called Carol since our "keypad entry" on the AirBnB website and app reservation did not have any specific information for getting inside. She answered and said "oh, you're here already? I'll come outside." Our friends who had the reservation booked under their name went to the front door and were greeted by Carol. I will say they reported she seemed very nice, but were in shock when she told them that she decided it would be "better for her and worked out best" to let another guest stay for 2 weeks and therefore cancelled our reservation. We had ZERO communication about this until we were literally outside her front door. She then started talking more and saying that she had booked 2 hotel rooms at the Best Western Gold Rush Inn for us and they had her credit card. We were then pointed in the direction of our hotel. Yes, it was close. But, it was not what we booked or agreed to pay for (we were still charged for the AirBnB booking). The hotel is not one I would recommend or have chosen myself. My biggest complaint is that the hallways smelled of smoke. Other than the obvious health risks to anyone, my husband has asthma and our friend is pregnant, so this was less than ideal. Had this been a reservation I made and had the option to change, I would have demanded a smoke free floor or even changed hotels. At this point, it is now almost 10:00pm so we were all ready to pass out, try to get a decent night of sleep and get up early the next day. Our friend has yet to hear anything else from Carol. She submitted a complaint to AirBnB just this morning so I don't have updates as far as how this will be handled further. The fact that this happened and no one was notified of the "more convenient and better option" (for Carol) prior to us arriving is extremely unprofessional and inconsiderate. Had we be given notice, we could have been given a full refund like we should have in the first place and found a hotel of our choosing. I would not recommended Casey's Bed and Breakfast for these reasons.

The fridge is stocked with breakfast items with tea and coffee and this worked out just perfectly for me and my dog. This is exactly what I envision a bed and breakfast to be like and I am so happy I stayed here. If I ever do get a chance to visit Whitehorse again I would surely chose Casey's apart from any other hotel or motel.

Also, a lot of things in the home are broken, like the TV and dishwasher. There are no locks on the rooms. After checking in, they ignore me during the rest of the stay. They do not ask if everything is good or bad. They did even talk to me on the last day when it was time to leave. Service could have been much better and the house in better condition.

We were the only ones staying here the first night so it was nice to have the place to ourselves. You get your own bathroom and the two bathrooms are side by side so if there is another group staying here it might get tight. There is continental breakfast provided which includes cereal and/or bread with peanut butter and jam but if you want something more hearty, there is a Shoppers Drug Mart within walking distance down the street to get some extra groceries. They encourage you to utilize the kitchen, which we did and it was great because there's everything you need to make a good meal! We visited during Winter Solstice in December where the days were cold and very short but we're always kept warm every time we came back to our "home away from home". The living room is very cozy with the fireplace and the beds were warm and comfortable.

I'm glad one of us was able to fulfill one of our bucket list items on this trip. Northern Lights Resort and Spa is in Whitehorse, Canada in the Yukon. It is about a 2.5 hour flight from Vancouver. Upon landing, we were greeted at the gate by Richard, one of the resort's employees. He grabbed our luggage for us and drove us to the resort, about 20 minutes from the airport. He gave us a brief history lesson on Whitehorse. At the resort, we were greeted by Tobi, who owns and manages the resort with his wife, Lynn. Tobi showed us to our glass chalet with floor to ceiling windows for the best Northern Lights viewing, a fireplace and heated floors. Each chalet also has an alarm where the staff will ring to wake you if the lights are visible. For dinner, we joined the other guests in the main cabin. Meals are all eaten together with the other guests. The resort has 8 chalets and only hosts up to 16 guests at a time. It was a nice, intimate experience that allowed us to meet and get to know other people from across the world. The food for every meal we had there was exceptional. James, the main chef, created every dish with detail and taste. For lunch one day, he made an elk and beef chili which I was hesitant to try. It turned out to be one of the best chilis I've ever had and I cleaned the bowl! Patrick, who was our dinner server, tour guide and hike leader was another incredible staff member. His kindness and knowledge of Whitehorse and the Yukon made our time there so valued. Uliya, our breakfast server, bonfire queen, and spectacular photographer added another wonderful layer to our trip. She was outside in the freezing cold every night making sure we were taken care of. Our experience included some extracurricular activities such as dog sledding and a Whitehorse tour. I don't have enough words to describe how much I enjoyed our time here. Being fortunate enough to see the lights two out of the three nights added that much more to the experience. I hope I can visit again one day!

Part of our family was recently transferred by the US military and the route took us through this part of Canada. We were fortunate enough to make reservations at what looked online like a beautiful "Hotel with a Restaurant, pet and kid friendly" Upon arrival we found this was at best a "Bed and Breakfast" in a beautiful lakeside home with bedrooms for rent. I think the owner was as surprised as we were when we all piled out of two vehicles and a trailer weary from a long day on the Alcan. We went in to "Check-in" and were met by who we assume was the "Chef" at the house who asked if we would be having dinner with them and when we responded no he said "Good". Wasn't sure what to think of that. There was just an uncomfortableness about the place. Over the next half hour while we found out this was no place for our kids, grandkids or pets, my son in law tried to cancel our reservations. Well ...... this is where I'm torn. There was a no cancellation policy which meant no refund at all. No consideration. Just no. While I understand he has every right to adhere strictly to his policies, I was surprised there was no consideration at all. Now mind you this is not anywhere near another place to stay in the winter and in the Yukon. Another two and a half hours to the next town where we found a room. Please don't misunderstand that I am admitting that we were responsible for getting all the information before making the reservations. I think that this type of establishment may do some further vetting of who is making reservations to assure they know exactly what they are getting.
