For months of Covid19 (starting with China in Jan) there was NO WAY to call. The Air Canada number…read morejust gave you a recording saying "unless you are flying within 48 hours" please call back - and it hung up. So when I mistakenly booked the wrong city to fly into (those Hawaiian names are so alike!) there was no way to rectify it by phone, and I had missed the online change window of 24 hours. So I had to buy another flight, and hope to get a refund later. When I was within 48 of flying I was able to call and explain the wrong booking. I was told to email the details and it would be taken care of. I got a refund in the mail of $88 when the flight cost $219. There was no explanation given. Calls are allowed now in June, but the wait is 2 hours. Service?

My father and I were flying from Comox to Calgary via Vancouver…read more After setting up his medical at the time of booking, being confirmed and boarded, with the same oxygen machine he has travelled with dozens of times, we were given 2 options, leave the oxygen machine or leave the plane. We tried to explain to to the pilot and stewardess that the fact that my father would die without the oxygen, and a call from Danniele at the customer check in explaining that it was an approved machine we were forced to deplane. My father and I both have medical issues with walking so this became the first problem. Then the plane left with our luggage and medication. Once we returned to the terminal Danielle showed us the list of approved oxygen machines and what a surprise, there was my fathers machine. We then had to take a $30 cab ride, and rent a $120 hotel room. I then had to go to a walk in clinic to obtain a days worth of medication. Then wait 10 hours for our next flight. Then a 3 hour layover in Vancouver. We then went to the only restaurant without a wait to eat. After finishing dinner we asked for a cart pick up but we're told I had to wheel my father back to the Air Canada wing and wait. We waited 20 minutes and once no one showed up I was forced to push him the full distance as we would have been late for checkin. We landed in Calgary at 1:00am after beginning our day at 4:00am. This caused quite a strain on my fathers heart and my knees. All for an obstinate pilot that refused to listen to anyone as if he was on some kind of power trip. This treatment has left us bitter and likely to give poor reviews to everyone we meet. I would like to add that Danielle in Comox was very helpful in getting us a new flight and assuring we would not be removed by another flight. I would also like to add that the gentleman who deplaned my father in Calgary was very helpful in wheeling him to baggage claim and helping him find me.

I measured my bag, a tube 40x20cm, and thought I was good. At the airport during check in they had me 'size' the bag in a narrow 12 cm x god-knows-how-deep-and-wide letter box like thingy. Needless to say it wouldn't fit. When I asked for a measuring tape (oh, yeah!..I did) the young girl at the counter suggested then to remove a few things and try again, which I did. It fit. Now she lables it and tells me that I am all good to go. Well, when at the gate queuing another young lady asks me to remove my gilet (a fishing gear with many pockets where I had put the two items taken from my bag, a braun series 9 and a poncho) and empty it! Whaaat??! Oh, yes, she wanted me to put everything back in the bag and size it again! Bottom line the small bag allowed by my original booking turned out to be a personal item (still though 15x34x43cm) like a laptop or a small purse, and they now wanted me to pay and extra 79$ even though they had already okayed me downstairs. 'It is that' she says ' or you are not flying today'. Now, I wasn't the only one subjected to this routine on that flight but I was the one they (over)charged the most. Prices varied from 56$ to 79$ for the equivalent bag. Btw, downstairs at the counter before telling me to remove a few items they told me that if not fitting I had to pay 67$ and not 79$. Bottom line, they hook you up with cheap tickets to then blatantly cheat you out of the rest of the money at the airport.

I am leaving this review in December 2021 about Far and Away Adventures' offering of RAPID COVID…read moreTESTING for air travellers. If you are traveling out of YYJ Airport and live nearby, then this is the place to go because: (1) The rapid-test can be done quickly, with the option of picking up the kit from their store in Sidney and taking the test, at home, via live video, scheduled in a timely manner, such as (as I leave this review) less than 24 hours ahead of my flight departure. (2) Far and Away Adventures was the strongly preferred choice by a close friend who has traveled to the U.S.A. by air within the past week who told me these two things: (a) Far and Away delivered the services and the results in a timely manner, as promised, and they were able to board their flight; and (b) many passengers were made late for their flight because they used another service that is located VERY VERY VERY CLOSE to the airport. If I am able, I will leave my review about that other service. The only drawback to the Far and Away Adventures setup is you must pay in advance, instead of just 24-hours ahead of time. While the policy is understandable -- I'll be picking up my COVID test within the week but won't be taking the test until early next month -- but if my flight (or all flights to the USA) get cancelled (due to travel restrictions, if re-imposed) then I have paid ahead of time... well... perhaps they would, in that hypothetical case, revise the policy, and I wouldn't mind paying a deposit upon picking up the test, and then paying the balance the day before my scheduled online test. Just remember DO NOT go to the place that's so-close-you-can-walk to the airport terminal.
