The staff at Westfield Genesis Center lovingly cared for my mom and provided her with successful rehab treatment. My mom had difficulty understanding where she was but the nurses, aides, and physical therapist helped my mom to adjust with repeated reassurance, hugs and humor. This place is where hope goes to die. They abused my 96-year-old mother, leaving her in her own urine, and neglected her so badly that she had to be hospitalized for severe dehydration. If you truly love your loved one, do not take them here! I have a video explaining how they used a Hoyer lift to take her to physical therapy. When I walked into her room, I saw her bed was wet with urine--they left it like that and didn't even change her clothes. The nurse only came in because I started recording. These people have no respect for their patients; they treat them like a piece of meat. This could be your mother. I told them what was happening, but they don't care--as long as they get paid for their shift, that's all that matters to them. read more

Pretty bad. Avoid at all costs. Overworked staff try to be helpful but their resentment shows. Medical care is neglected...my brother had possible pneumonia and it took DAYS to get a chest xray to confirm and another day before he got medication. Not a whole lot of rehab happens. The place is clean at least, the Maintenance staff works hard. We only got prompt attention when we said we were leaving. Wish I had read reviews before we went there.... read more

This nursing home is a joke! It's a Adult Day Care. The faculty is not clean, short staffed. The management and leadership is a hot mess. It's all about profit and meeting the minimum standards to pass for the state. I blame the state for allowing this company to buy so many faculties and not run them properly. PLEASE READ!!!!! This place was absolutely terrible from the facility to the front desk staff. My father was in there with critical respiratory care. Because of covid-19 visits were non existent at first. My children and I had to visit him from an outside window due to no iPad being available for a virtual visit, which he wasn't able to turn his head so that was unsuccessful. On his birthday 5/31/2021 I was finally able to get a "compassion visit", even though the social workers had cleared his visit because of his condition, they still told me I could only stay for 1 hour. he was in a dark room, no tv on, no music, that WE provided for music therapy. Mind you, my dad had severe brain injury, a ventilator, trachea tube, feeding tube and non verbal and paralysis. Not only did the staff not acknowledge his birthday, they didn't know it was on that day!! These patients haven't seen there families in over a year , the least you could do is acknowledge them. Luckily, my sister and I was always on the scene so they couldn't pull the wool over our eyes. On this day I decided to inspect his room. Because my father was a respiratory patient he was at high risk for any infections, his air quality and cleanliness was very important. To my surprise there was an excessive amount of black mold in his bathroom . I WAS LIVID!! his respiratory therapist(a guy) walked in and I said, "mold safe for a patient with respiratory issue?" He said that mold wasn't good for anyone. I then told him to go into the bathroom and take a look..at first he said he would get a nurse and i told him "your in charge of his respiratory therapy you go and take a look and I want this documented in his charts (I'm sure he didn't) the side of his bed was smudge with old dirt and dried up food..(mind you my dad had a feeding tube) Ironically/Sadly, the next day my dad went into respiratory distress and was rushed to the hospital and never returned. The next day my sister and I went to speak to administration (who came out an 1 1/2 hrs later) they had all his stuff packed ..less than 24 hours. I asked why and they said if he's not here he's not a patient. I asked them how do you know he's not coming back!!!..i was so upset. I visited it this Sunday to visit my mother . Now I take back my review. The flowers a nice touch . The staff leaves a lot to be desired. They are understaffed. If they are qualified? I don't know? Since the COVID happened. They do not have it set up properly. It was freezing. The staff seemed in careing and lazy. I will be thankful when my Mother healed and is able to leave that place. Many members of the staff are very rude and some are incompetent. They are understaffed and patients who did not have family visiting were neglected. My grandmother was there for a month and was given the wrong medication multiple times. Discharge was the worst as they forgot about us and the doctor who was supposed to give her discharge orders left before completing the job! Unfortunately I was one of the people who used to highly recommend this place. Never again! read more

My brother has been here for months and I told my mother not to send him here! So many bad reviews and I see why!!!!! Place is run down and my brother is definitely being neglected! The Center is clearly understaffed. During food disbursement time, staff are much less available to care for patients. The owner or board of directors should fund more staff Wait for a change of adult undergarment can be up to 2 - 2 1/2 hours consistently. Service response time is horrible. Inattentive. Visiting my friend who was waiting 2 hours for a "diaper change". Went to nurse's station to respectfully request the change. Got met with "we will get to it when we get to it." Food is incorrect 50% of the time. Physical therapy is excellent. Respiratory department is excellent. read more

Since posting my review of Westfield Genesis elder care center, I have heard from five other users all of whom went through the exact same issue with the BED BUGS. I brought my mother here after her brain surgery. She was treated like a queen! The staff was so loving and caring. They still call each other on the phone and she is home now. A home away from home, she did not want to leave. The staff became family and we are forever grateful for Westfield Center! read more

Genius's nursing home Westfield nj is the worse. The aides mostly. Hasian could care less. I have so often saw them walk right person calling for help. The nurses sit a desk and never check patience. The aides don't clean patients right and make excuses. Place is like hell. I wouldn't send a dog there. Worse. People don't care. Also a friend found out by mistake the patients who had demention were put in bed 4pm. Who does that? When confronted they acted like they had idea and dismissed it as always. Stealing went on all the time. One lady had her glasses stolen 4 times. Her son was so mad. I have seen aides shove the food down patients mouth to get it over with. Never saw good care in. 3. Yrs. hell hole. I wouldn't give it one star but u have to give 1 star read more

My review is directly opposite from Robert K's review. My father was sent to Genesis by his doctor for rehab. He spent 3 weeks in the hospital with Diverticulitis and complications including deep depression over the passing of his wife. Yes the carpeting is a bit worn, and the rooms are dated. But everything is clean and in good working order. The matresses are all covered in vinyl for hygiene so I have no Idea where he claims bed bugs.. As for the staff they have been exceptional in their efforts and care. When my pop came in he was severely depressed and didn't want to open his eyes , the staff worked and cajoled and 3 weeks later he is up and dressed every day, they have him walking around the outside of the facility as well as Physical rehab every day but Sunday. As for the food, well in three weeks of 3 meals a day he has had one meal he didn't like and one that he hated. The kitchen sent out sandwich platters that he loved. I can't tell you how pleased we are with the way the staff takes care of him on a constant basis. Several nurses and aides come in to check on him even when they are not assigned to him.. Unlike the other review I highly recommend Genesis. read more

It is by far the worse of the worse. Staff are rude. You won't get a hello or smile unless you say it first. The professional training is non-existent; they are uncaring, they don't want to be bothered. The nurses are lpn's and the aides are mean.and rough..i have seen people left the whole day in the hallway. I hear them yell and make fun of the sick people. Taking "breaks" with their phone and purses in patient rooms. They talk about family members when you are not there.The patients are dirty. Its so sad to go and visit your loved one. My mother is a patient at Westfield. She asks for help and I see the staff people completely ignore her and others. I complain to the supervisors and am basically ignored. We're working hard to get her out of what my mother refers to as a hell hole. Please look elsewhere..its horrible read more

My Mom went to Genesis for rehab as a last minute decision based on recommendations from the social worker at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair. I had visited 2 other rehabs which were much better but they did not have a bed when she was discharged from the hospital. The rehab wing was full and she was placed in the 'nursing home'. She was put in a 4 bed room with a woman who had very obvious mental illness and thought she owned the room and 1 other elderly lady who lived there. The admitting process, examining her from head to toe naked, scared her and started the experience off poorly. The facility, while clean, smelled awful. Some wings smell like urine and some like feces. Its no wonder it smells because the aids or the most part are terrible and I can't say much more for the nurses. On numerous occasions no one responded to her call bell to take her to the bathroom. Medication was delivered whenever the nurse made it and there was no communication between the people who actually contributed to the day to day quality of life. I was very happy to find a bed for her elsewhere within a few days. I will say the the physician, physical therapist and occupational therapist and social workers were all very competent, caring and professional. But again, the nurses and aids who deal consistently with the nursing home patients are jaded, unresponsive and uncaring (with the exception of 1 aid who was good) and the place is over crowded and disgusting read more

Horrible ordeal, my loved one was at Genesis for months too many too horrifically long. I would visit at odd times to find my loved one not cleaned so they would not know I was going, wet and clearly neglected came close to bed sores on more than one occasion. I also had the awful ordeal and heartache of observing others receive the same and sadly and unbelievably even less care and downright neglect. I witnessed patients roaming the halls begging for a diaper change and wondering into other rooms when they were clearly disoriented. I observed a fall observed staff shut the door and once they opened it the fall victom had been moved by staff so that when paramedics arrived they stated and made it look like he fell out of bed. They should be ashamed of themselves but aren't. they clearly are very comfortable in this their apparent tolerated and regular behavior. I did involve Supervisors ea occurrence only to again have what I reported denied and documented as they please, they refused to give me copies of documents. Made medication errors which again they keep off the record so that their state rating isn't influenced an absolute hell. You do on occassion get Temp staff who work differently and properly but that is rare. There are no cameras and they document things as they should be even though you can be sitting right there and KNOW that things were NOT done. Neglectful to say the least. People forget there may not be cameras loved ones may not say anything at times due to fear of the repercussions they forget they will answer to a higher power one day. read more
