Every year at the end of spring/ beginning of summer my family & I go out to the Deep Creek area to visit our family land & cemetery & we make sure to have fun too! We absolutely make sure we go horseback riding every trip to create those forever kind of memories ! My parents have been taking me here to ride horses since I was a young kid.. probably before I could ride on a horse alone! So now my sister & I have young kids , our dad, stills brings us up to do the guided horse trail rides & I promise it's one of my favorite things to do! There is many different horses & each one has their own personality which makes it that much more fun to go and get to know the horse you will be paired with! All of the staff that I have met over the years are friendly , helpful, knowledgeable & they are great at reassuring the kids when they get scared !! All the horses are well taken care of & cared for greatly. I would 100% recommend the guided horseback riding to anyone at any age because it's peaceful, fun & an experience that you will definitely remember!

I used to go here every summer as a kid when we went to Deep Creek Lake, MD. We recently went up (7/24/09) and it was just as I remembered it! PROS: The hour long ride was every minute of a full hour; The horses were great (and well taken care of!); The trail was nice too, very scenic and some up and down grades (vs. just a flat ride); Reasonable rate for a 1 hour ride ($30/per person); The staff (and the little girl that helped us out) was great! Very helpful! CONS: No Credit/Debit Cards (Cash Only); No running the horses :( but... we understand, Western Trails... its a "Liability Issue" ;)

I came here with my church for an hour long horseback riding session. Although I was nervous, the people here were so nice! I could tell they really enjoy their jobs and are passionate about the horses. My horse (Sweet n' Low) did a really good job staying on track. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. The trail we went on was nice and scenic as well. The only thing I would recommend is that they clean up a little bit. There was horse poop and pee everywhere. To wrap things up, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone coming though who wants to go horseback riding!

All the horses are super friendly.

We visited on a day that the establishment had a sick employee and one who stayed home. That being said, the staff managed the steady rush of visitors with ease and were within 15 min of targeted trail ride times. The facility was busy with ATV and horseback riding customers arriving and leaving constantly. The staff were courteous and friendly and offered instruction and answered our question. Like many horseback riding venues for tourist; horseback riding included horses traveling slowly single-file along a well marked path. If any horse got confused, a guide was quick to help or offer suggestions on each horses personality. The single file plodding was exactly what we wanted for our small children. The trail wound through open and wooded areas and there was plenty of wildlife to be seen. The facility has 60 horses, so plenty of choices for everyone.

First time horseback riding. Great adventure!

I arrived 15 min early and hung out until everyone had arrived, using the time to browse, ask questions, meet the horses, and pet the two dogs that were lazing about in the barn. Once we were paired with a horse and helped up into the saddles, they gave us a brief speech about how to control the horses and what to expect on the ride. The horses were all very sedate and happy to play follow the leader with very little input from us. The ride took us mostly through open fields, but also through some light woods and along the side of woods. There was a good amount of elevation change, but it was nothing difficult and it provided some lovely views of the surrounding lands. Our guide frequently asked how we were all doing, kept a keen eye on the group, pausing to allow a lagging horse to catch up from time to time, and stopped at the midpoint to walk through the group making sure we were still all okay and our horses and saddles were good. When we got back, staff members came out and helped us off the horses and led them off to drink. It was a lovely experience. Very sedate and easy, though I guarantee I'll feel that in my thighs tomorrow. LOL. Going into it, I was a bit worried that I'd be bored. Today's digital age has shrunk my attention span and I knew we'd be going walking pace in a line. But at no point did I want to pull out my phone and surf social media or read a book. I just enjoyed the bouncing jolting sway of the horse, the scenery, the lovely weather, and the chit chat around me. I would totally do this again. Thanks everyone at Circle R Ranch for a lovely afternoon.

The two women who helped us and guided our trail ride were great. They know all the horses personalities and were able to pair us up with a horse suitable for our riding abilities (beginners). This is a small family owned business that we'd love to visit again when in the area.

She handled my 6'3" and 240 lbs with ease and listened to my every command. The process for mounting the horses and the extreme disorganization at the end of the ride were much less enjoyable. After being placed on your horse, you are left while others are mounting theirs for the ride. We waited at least 10 minutes on anxious horses that weren't happy standing around. They walked us into tree branches a few times. When we returned from the ride, the lack of staff to assist was even more apparent. Two staff members to assist 12-14 riders and horses is not sufficient. My girlfriend's horse led her through 3 prickly trees. My horse went to the watering trough and was almost bitten by another horse. This caused my horse rear back, sprint a few steps forward and start to buck. I haven't been on a horse in over 30 years, so I feel very fortunate that I was able to get her to calm down and not toss me. These issues could all be alleviated by adding 2 additional staff members. $45 for an hour trail ride seems like a fair price, but at that price you should also have enough staff on hand to handle paying customers and ensuring a pleasant and safe experience.

It was incredible to see demos of this gaited breed that has its origins in Puerto Rico and Colombia to be shown in their splendor right here in the Northeast. I can't wait to go back to stay at the elegant but reasonably priced bed and breakfast right on the premises. The day I was there, I noticed they were setting up for a private event, a birthday luncheon on the deck of the guest house with a top chef, live Spanish guitar, and roses on the tables, it looked fabulous, and so romantic. A friend asked me if I would like to go out to get some berries. We got there after berry picking time for the day, which closed around 2 PM, but there was still plenty of time to buy berries in their market, freshly picked by their workers, and enjoy other fun things at the farm! We fed the goats, who were the sweetest, tamest goats I have ever met. (Frankly, they completely changed my opinion about goats, with which I have had some unpleasant memories in the past.) You can pay a quarter for some food and feed it to them by hand, and not a single one took it from me anything less than gently. There is also a super cute feature where you can send some food up to goats standing at the top of the pen via a pulley system. There were several baby goats here when we visited and they were ridiculously adorable. From there it was a stop at the café window where we ordered strawberry lemonade slushies that were an absolute delight. It was late in the day and they were out of several of the food offerings; I was told by my friend that the hot pretzel is fantastic, but didn't get to find out. So I went with some freshly made donuts, and it was only a few dollars for half a dozen blueberry donuts. They are wonderful eaten fresh just like this, but when you take them home you can heat them up for 10 seconds to get that just-out-of-the-oven taste. Finally we stopped in the shop which is full of all kinds of home, pantry and fresh food items. I came home with a pint of raspberries, a big bunch of strawberries (last of the season!), jars of pickled beets and bread and butter pickles, and a block of baby Swiss cheese. Everything has been absolutely fantastic and it would be easy to go absolutely wild in this store. Lots of events here during different seasons, especially apple and pumpkin season in fall which is their busiest time. After that they close for the year at Halloween. Come out and pick some berries or fresh lavender here this summer! It's a local gem.
