Manny and Trey arrived on time and got to work ASAP. They loaded everything on the truck at the two requested locations and headed to Sacramento. Once we got to Sacramento, they started unloading everything. The move was to the 3rd floor of an apartment building with no elevator and down the hall from the stairs. The mover was very rough with our furniture and tore the door off an entertainment center, and was frequently bumping corners of furniture into walls, creating scrapes and dents along the path out. Even though we shouldn't be lifting, we started carrying the antique furniture ourselves. At 1pm we were informed that they were leaving at 1:30pm, even though the moving truck wasn't finished loading. Unfortunately for us, we had arranged for them to also unload at our destination as well. We ended up calling friends on short notice because we couldn't have unloaded by ourselves. These movers informed us that their hours are posted on their website. Be aware that the hours posted on their site are working hours... not store front hours, and apparently they leave even when the job isn't complete. We spoke to them about four times on the phone before the job, and they never mentioned this detail.

He carried it on his back through the weeds and up the stairs before the guys I had over even realized that he'd started. And this was a BIG COUCH, all natural materials (heavy wood), with a row of three seats as one side and a chaise lounger as the other. He was extremely careful the entire time. When I told the guys they should be helping him, they met up with him at the top of the stairs and he was able to communicate effectively with them (all non-native English speakers he'd never met before) to tell them how to move the gigantic thing through the hallways without hitting any of the wall sconces. I was very impressed. Throughout our entire engagement, Dan was extremely courteous even though I couldn't quite commit to a certain time due to my sporadic communications with the seller of the couch. He was a very good person and happy to help us out. Evidently, the couch seller was impressed, too--she later told me she was considering hiring him herself for a future move.
