I am a General Contractor and I unfortunately use this company to pay and deliver 60 tons of crushed miscellaneous base and 15 yards of stabilized decomposed granite. They require payment upfront and then they didn't deliver the material. When I called them, they said "oh yeah, we had no drivers today for you". I had five guys waiting around for my CBM. The sales person Gloria basically said it's not her responsibility to let me know if my material will be delivered or not. I requested a refund since they didn't deliver my material and they said they don't give refunds. Stay away from this company. read more

I would not believe a word they say. Find another gravel company. from their website: "We strive to deliver the highest customer satisfaction at every step from start to finish. The delivery of the right spec materials in a timely and professional manner is one of the most critical factors why residential and commercial customers choose us and keep coming back." SF Bay Area - Got a quote from their online quote app in which I specified ASTM#67 WASHED gravel - it was twice as much as Broadmoor in SSF and I assumed it was because it was washed and told them so when I asked numerous times wanting to make sure it was WASHED for the retrofit foundation French drain I was installing. My quote specifically ask for 2 tons of WASHED #67 gravel, and I asked numerous times to confirm that it was washed gravel. I made it clear in all of our conversations that it needed to be WASHED They confirmed in writing that it was washed. The gravel was wet and not dusty when delivered and covered with plastic until installed. I felt assured since they had specifically confirmed to me that it was washed. I am now left with an installed French drain that subject to clogging up due to their lie. The leftover gravel remains covered. I went to remove some this last weekend the now dry gravel (still covered with plastic) was very dusty. Shocked and very concerned I Googled the question and did a test to see if the the gravel was washed. The water in the gravel wash test was charcoal gray and never cleared. The gravel was obviously not washed. Also, after asking numerous times in emails and text messages, they finally emailed me the invoice and receipt after the delivery - despite charging my VISA on nearly two weeks earlier. No way to question that 'washed' was not included in the invoice until after the delivery. The fix will be expensive, now, or in the future when the system gets clogged prematurely and ruins my sump pump Basically, they lied to me. I have asked for a full refund which will in no way defray the time and cost of disassembling the French drain and hand washing. Go somewhere else. read more

I ask for non wash sand and the sent me back fill sand with rock in it, i said this is not what i ask for and paid the delivery so I'm eating $955.71 for something i didn't order, I should have stuck with orange coast sand and gravel- i will never use western material every again. read more

I called for information and the person who answered the phone did not know one thing about the products (aggregate or cement). I found this to be odd considering the size of the business and honestly it wouldn't be hard to train the receptionist on the basics of the products. I was told to sent an email with a quote request, which I promptly did; it was 12pm on a Friday. ZERO RESPONSE. I called them Saturday to follow up on my written inquiry. ZERO RESPONSE. I called Monday to see why they couldn't be bothered to respond to my inquire. The reception knew exactly which inquiry I was calling about, to which she replied, 'we don't fulfill orders that small, it must be at least 4 yd(3).' So is it your policy to just NOT RESPOND to a customers quote request if their order amount is too small? So utterly unprofessional and frankly lame. Your running a business. read more

I've had a terrible experience with Western Materials. I had 100 tons of "Crushed Rock" ordered to be delivered to my site. I was told this was crushed granite that would be arriving. Ultimately what is dropped off is recycled crushed concrete not granite. Now I've got 100 tons of a product I didn't order on my site that is full of wire, nails, trash, etc. etc. There will be cars/trucks driving over the aggregate which is now a flat tire hazard. I have been trying to get a resolution with the company to get what I ordered but despite admitting there was a mistake at the plant all that's been offered is a small partial refund. Western Materials has been very difficult to communicate with. I went un-responded to for a whole week and only through my repeated attempts have I gotten a hold of the team again which shared the same, "I'll talk to the owner and follow up when I get a reply" but I'm being told I can't speak with the owner myself. Work with someone else that will value you, your time and your money. Western Materials is not that sort of company. read more

So i ordered pure white bunker sand ! They delivered beach sand . They said its there white sand and i clearly asked for sugar white bunker sand . Long story short. I demanded my money back and for them to pick up the sand . They basicly good luck with that one . So i stopped payment .on the CC charge which takes 90 day to get a refund . I had used Western Materials for over 20 years and at one time they were price competitive and customer friendly. I did a recent 3/8" pea gravel order and they defined the price in tons. I trusted Marianne given the years I worked with her that of course her price was competitive. Upon receipt, the pile looked small and the guy said it was 7 yards = 10tons. I reviewed the invoice and she charged me $372/yard!!!!! I called and asked, "is there a mistake as in yard unit comparison, pea gravel's going rate is $145/yard? Clearly I trusted you Marianne to give me a going rate, not more than 100% mark up. And given my long term relationship and I am willing to buy 25 more yards, can we kindly work this out?" SHE SAID NO!! She was aggressive in tone, interrupted me when I tried ask quantity questions and defended her NO, "the deal is the deal, you signed!" I felt like it was GOTCHA!! Wow! She didn't care about my next 25 yard order nor my business for 20 years, all worthless. She just lost a good, respected customer. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you TAKE your business ELSEWHERE! We have done business with Western Materials a few times over the last two years and have always received the best service and quality materials. My brothers company Greg's Industrial has been using Western Materials within the Los Angeles area. Just called Western Materials to get a yard of DG for a small project that I am doing. The lady on the phone told me they don't deliver less than 3 yards. I asked if I could pick up 1 yard of DG and she said no, they only deliver. She then told me I should go to my "Local" materials supply to get "that amount." I asked if she could recommend anybody and she asked where I was located. I told her I was in Santa Clarita and that it appeared Western Materials was my "Local" supply place. She then told me she could not recommend anybody. LOL what a joke. read more
