Little touches add to its charm

I stayed here for work on a weekday night. I have never been this far west or south in VA. I must say I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a hotel in such a small town. The hotel was pretty empty during my stay, but i expected that for a Monday. Here are the basics, free WiFi, free parking, free to go breakfast, cable, mini fridge, bottled water, coffee, etc. Now that we got that out of the way, the highlights are what make this place special. The rooms are comfortable, and clean. The original wood floors can be seen all over the hotel, giving its charm with every creak. You can definitely hear when people are walking and talking down the hall. But despite the hallway floors creaking, I haven't noticed the floor of my room creaking as I walk. They seem to have done a really great job at modernizing this as a hotel but at the same time highlighting its age. They have used old doors for headboards and reclaimed wood for bedside tables and bathroom shelving. All of the lights are old style lamps which i loved, but they didn't give enough light in some areas of the room. There is also an outdoor lawn area behind the hotel with a fire pit and what looks like a stage for events. There are two outdoor terraces that overlook the street. Some of the rooms on the 2nd floor have a front row view of the terrace, but that means the terrace also has a front row view to those rooms. Luckily, no one used the terrace during my stay. I would have had to keep the shades down and miss out on any sunlight to light the room. I would probably ask for the 3rd floor next time.

We absolutely loved this hotel!!! It had tremendous character, and was spotless. The staff was top notch, the in-house restaurant was phenomenal, and the rooms were spacious and inviting. And they had Molton Brown bath products, which my family loves. We were first time visitors, and will return...without a doubt! Thank you, Western Front!

My room for our conference amazing!!!!

Was my first time to this side of the state of VA. It was awesome even the old floors that talked to you when you walk on them. If you get yo stay here you will definitely love every minute of your stay.

This hotel is beautiful inside. It's brand new and they've done a beautiful job with it. The lobby has a wonderful bright sitting area with a gift shop next to it. I appreciate the large parking out back and the river/adventure themed decor! The issues that kept me from giving 5 stars was that we stayed in an Adventure Suite (room 303) with two bedrooms, and I guess because the building was previously an old jail they used AC units in each room (and the living room one buzzed SO LOUD). The individual AC is nice but the entire suite (and many floors of the hotel) was SO HUMID. They had some dehumidifiers running in the hallways but one was needed badly in our suite. The installed AC units were not cutting it with the humidity. Maybe if we were in a regular room it may have been better. However, the beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms all had flat screen TVS. I wish the living area had another chair plus the couch but that's okay. The fridge in the room was much appreciated. There's a great rooftop terrace we enjoyed and had a few beers on. I would absolutely come back and stay at this hotel if I ever get the chance.

Despite all the excellent reviews on this hotel, my experience was not good. If the Fairfield Inn…read moredid not have some good qualities, I would have given it a one to two star rating. For first time visits to this hotel, I strongly encourage people to closely survey their room and bathroom before settling in for the night. So the hotel seemed stellar at first UNTIL I used the shower in my room. The hotel had great reviews, so I did not think I would have a problem. The front desk check in area and our room were clean & very appealing. I loved the selection of tv shows and movies on our television. We had checked in for a late night stay & just wanted to relax before we traveled out early in the morning. Everything seemed ideal until I took a shower in the morning. I noticed there was human hair from other people in the front and back of my shower area. One was a long light brown hair in the front upper area of the shower stall. One was a short black hair on upper back of the shower wall. I was mortified that housekeeping didn't notice this immediately. It made me wonder if they cleaned the bathroom at all after the former guest before us left. Despite all the wonderful amenities, the unsanitary condition of our bathroom made me dock 2 stars from a 5 star rating. It makes me want to thoroughly survey any room we get at any hotel regardless of the hotel having an excellent rating especially this hotel. Breakfast here was exceptional with many options EXCEPT they started shutting down earlier than the 10 AM closing time & there was NO COFFEE available at 9:30 AM. My husband had to wait for them to make a fresh batch. Despite the great breakfast, I got sick from something I ate on the breakfast provided there which is very rare. I never get sick from food I eat. I wanted to give a one star rating to this hotel yet I decided to be kind yet fair.

Great price and comfy beds with streaming your favorite movies on Netflix…read more Everything was great except a hair in the shower and there was quite a mess waking up at 9:30am to get breakfast. Both coffees were empty and no creamer. We had to ask for more coffee and then ask for creamer. The breakfast caused my wife to get sick, which caused us to make an additional stop to get meds. Some greats and some work to be done. Stay here on a budget but hope for the best on quality. How does the coffee run dry at 9:45am? People are still waking up still. I know that breakfast closes at 10:00am, but some set there alarms to eat something and get a coffee.
