I arrived 10 minutes early and sat in their really cool waiting room. They have electric massage chairs and a lot of cool pictures to look at. The owner (Dalyn) came in and said my barber is finishing up and would be right there with me. Paying attention to waiting clients goes a long way. Some places just let you sit there without any acknowledgement - thanks Dalyn! Little things like that goes a long way. My appointment was with Kevin, who recently started working here three weeks prior. He came from a barber shop in SLC and said he really likes it at Eastman's. He said they really have a good team there. Kevin is very personable and is great at multitasking (conversation and haircutting). He did a great job on my haircut and helped to educate me on what he was doing. He gave me about a 1 on the sides and faded to a 4 on top. After the haircut, he shaved my neck with a straight razor/hot towel - awesome experience. The whole haircut and neck-shave took about 30 minutes. Kevin didn't seem rushed at all. The shop has a real jovial and neighborhood vibe to it. There's always laughter, a little good-spirited smack talking, and friendly smiles. As professionals too, if yr not feeling it, they know how to read that and cater accordingly. For some context on why I like it here so much, I am a simple guy. I don't need a lot of the fuss and muss that you might normally get from other places that are trying to push their styling products, their aesthetic, have a super judgmental vibe, or are just trying to do anything but what most simple men (like me) need. I don't part my hair, I don't use "product," I just brush it back in the morning and don't think about it much beyond that. When it gets too long, I get it cut - maybe once every 3-6 months. So that said, I realize that my business isn't paying the rent at the shop, and nevertheless, I always look so much better when I walk out the door here, than when I did walking in. If, on the other hand, you do actually want a professional stylist for the full works before that hot date, night out on the town, or whatever your aesthetic - they do it all, and from what I have seen observing the other customers here, Bloody Mary's does it all very well too. Since they changed over from Bootstrap, they're website booking flow has really improved, and now they have a simple, easy-to-use mobile app for scheduling appointments and taking care of payments. Maybe it's just my haircuts, but the service is never slow. I get in and get my haircut and it doesn't take long. The shop is clean, the chairs comfy, and the only suggestion I can think of is it might be nice to have a longer couch or a chair or two for folks waiting on their appointment. I know, tough criticisms... So far I have seen Olivia, Carrie, Tommy, and today I got a haircut from Dravin. They're all fantastic at what they do. One final note - I have to apologize to Dravin. I was using the mobile device to book and had a little trouble setting it up. Not sure how I did it, but I only tipped 20%. If you look at my appointment history (and if iirc...)
