Holy cow. How does this place not have more reviews? My husband and I camp frequently, but were…read morenervous trying this park out without many reviews. So glad we went ahead and came! BEST shelter and park we have been to yet. We are extremely impressed! We rented shelter #5, it overlooks the lake and is across the way from the bathrooms, huge plus (I love camping, but don't hover well haha). The restrooms were so so, nothing special, but better than peeing behind a tree. Same goes for the showers, nothing special, but I loved that they were private, offered hot water, and had a little sink in the stall. The shelter itself was amazing! We have never been to a park where the shelters have tarps to cover the screened areas. You can tie them up or lock them down, perfect for privacy or blocking out the wind on cold nights. We also brought a lock to lock the shelter while we were away, but with multiple gates to get to the shelters we felt very safe. We came in late and left early, so we unfortunately did not get a chance to interact with the park host or other employees. But they were very friendly and helpful when I called asking for information. Overall I am very impressed, I don't think I can express that any more clearly. We will definitely be back and are already looking at our calendar! We need to get our canoe out here!

Dana Peak Park offers many trails, lake side views with fishing, and places to park. The trails are…read moremarked for your reference. The trails are for hiking and bicycling. It is also dog friendly. Pretty much dirt trails, so after rains, it can get muddy, but we are in Texas, so that only happens occasionally. You can get several miles in on the various trails. Others are friendly and willing to point you in the right direction. I've been here a couple of times now and enjoyed both times. I do recommend hiking with someone else in case of emergencies. You never know when you might come across a snake, so be safe!

THE GOOD: Food was hot The Bad: Marina of the Marinas between Belton and Stillhouse Lake, this one is pretty ran down. The food is tasty but supergreasy. No air-condition in the dining area. Tables are super dirty and flies run the place. Today is their reopening day after an alleged renovations for the looks of it they went for the "rundown" motive.

So either be careful or go crazy as long as you have enough time and water. Entrances on both ends of park. LOts of litter so don't make it worse please.

Grumpy folks. I got scolded for putting trash in wrong…read moredumpster (no indications, manager later put up signs). Came back one afternoon about 4pm and refused entry, because their records indicated i would check out that day (2 pm is checkout). Did not ask if i wanted to extend my stay, just kept repeating "camper error". I had to suggest to them that i could pay to extend. Showers backed up. Toilets locked with no explanation or directions to another facility. Would have great views with some pruning of bushes on periphery of sites. Impression......no one cares.

FINALLY Zach and I made it out onto Lake Belton! We tried last year and Frank's was doing some…read moremaintenance on the bobcats and then we just didn't get around to it. So we showed up today a casual 10 minutes late. I'm always stressed about being late and they were very cool with it which immediately relaxed me. I think the marina itself could use more signage as we didn't see where to go to check in and had to be directed by someone else on the dock. We find our way, one of the employees said she was going to check that our bobcat was working (really appreciate that, always want to know it works) and we checked in inside. Without prompting, they recommend some cool areas of the lake to check out. This was excellent and I loved it. Zach was driving, so I was thriving, and they had wine on sale for 20% off, so they twisted my arm and I ended up with some delicious, cheap, plastic, single-serving bottles of wine. They were very patient with my nerves as we got loaded onto the boat and I tried not to lose all of my items. I really misinterpreted the size of the boat and, as I always do, overpacked. We did not need towels, we did not really need ... anything .... except maybe the wine. They gave us a great overview of how to steer the bobcat, cuz it was a little different than what we are used to with big boy boats, and we were off! We had a great time, we made it back alive, we signed a paper saying we were alive and had returned their bobcat, and they surprised us by saying bobcat rentals no longer have to pay for gas. We did not argue and hippity hopped it out of there. They made it so easy, the price is reasonable, they seem to have pretty open availability, and you can rent by the 1/2 hour. I can see us having a date night where we grab some dinner at Deadfish and then take a bobcat out for an hour to watch the sunset from the lake. This is my life now? No complaints.
