This happened to me a few years ago and I hope things have changed. I doubt it because the person who tried to pull a fast one on me was the owner, an older Asian man. I went into the shop for a derailer adjustment and he tried to sell me on new wheels. There was absolutely nothing wrong with them. Then he said if I wanted to keep them (as if I didn't have a choice in the mater) he could tighten the spokes and true them. I understand a business has to produce a profit in order to stay open but engaging in fraudulent practices is not the way to go. If I wanted to be treated this way, I would go to a car dealership. Don't go there for service. If you do be armed with knowledge and get a second opinion for anything that seems out of the ordinary if you wish to support a local bike shop. I am an avid bike rider and I decided come here for my yearly tune up. I was told by the owner to leave my bike and come back in a couple hours. When I came back, the owner said he was done tuning up my bike. I didn't notice any difference. The brakes were still lose, the seat was crooked, and they didn't even fill the tires with air! Fortunately one of the workers fixed all of that for me. When I left, I noticed there was a creaking sound coming from the back of the bike. I immediately went back to the store inquire about this, but the owner was extremely rude and didn't want to answer any of my questions. He acted like he didn't even know me, even though I was just there a few minutes ago. If you're looking to get a tune up, please save yourselves the headache and go somewhere else. read more

Specializes in Cannondale bikes, which are pricey, but obviously quality. I'm not an avid bike rider, but do ride enough to have frequented Westchester Square Bicycle Shop more than once. For repairs to your bike, new tube, new cables, and just basic maintenance, great, prompt service at a reasonable price. Can get crowded sometimes, and you may get frustrated if you don't get acknowledged immediately, but it's nothing personal, just understaffed. Tough business to have a large staff on hand, as I'm sure it goes through busy and dead periods. If you are looking to have your bicycle repaired or need any accessories, I would definetly come here. read more

I just got an $80 tune up on my bike and the owner was very nice, unlike a lot of the reviews listed here. He was personable and even cracked a couple of jokes. They added air to my tires, oiled up and tested all the gears in front of me, moved my handle bars down like they are supposed to be on a roadbike and I pray that I don't have to go back for any issues cause everything seems to be working well. Purchased my first Cannondale there way back in 1995. Cannondale Killer V shiny chrome mountain bicycle. Nice shop. The problem is that it is understaffed because the owner (James) is the primary sales person and lead mechanic. He employs a few sales people/cashiers, but the star of the place is usually in the back fixing a bicycle. It's a great location for people riding bicycle from different areas of the Bronx heading towards Pelham bay park, or Orchard beach. Stop by, you wont be disappointed. read more

Not bad, not great. I had an issue with my brakes on my bike and I waited a good 10 minutes to get taken care of while the boss was arguing with someone on the phone. I would've walked out because I have NO patience, but I waited. I got my brake fixed and was charged $15. The brakes were fixed and I left satisfied. I'd be back if I needed to, but I'd kind of be forced to since there are NO bikes shops in the Bronx anymore. read more

They have a nice selection of bikes and parts but don't get fooled this shop is highway robbery at it's best . I bought a nice road bike 5 years ago and the bike has been nothing but exceptional. I've come here for tuneups, flat tire repairs, & simple maintenance, or to upgrade parts but one trend that I notice about this place is that if you ask a lot of questions about your bike and don't have much knowledge about parts & pricing, they will rip you off or charge you for more . They also tend to sell you used parts and make you believe that you are getting a brand new part or a "better brand. Funny part is they don't tell you this until you go pick up the bike. One day I went in to fix my bike and the guy told me that my back rim was no good and that I should get a new pair. A good pair would ring me up for about $300.00. When I decided to visit a few other different bike shops for their opinion I was told that this was false! The other shops told me that all I would need is to replace the rear rim. A good rim at a Manhattan bike shop cost me $110.00. Less than a month ago I asked the clerk Sam for a tuneup & I told him that my bike was making strange noises, Sam and his clerks looked at my bike then told me that the brakes were worn out, tires were worn out, but that the rest of the bike was "good". I was told to drop off the bike at the shop so that all the issues could get addressed. Sam's guy told me that he would call me later on in the day when my bike was ready so that I could pick it up only thing is I didn't get a call back from them and I actually showed up before the closing time out of instinct, from there I was told that they were unable to call me to tell me that my bike was "ready" because they were "very busy." The replacement tires were actually used and the guy told me that those used tires were actually "specialized tires" which is a "better brand" & more "durable" than the ones I payed for. He made it seem like he did me a favor. It hasn't been a month & my bike is already falling apart. I see now why this place has a 2 star rating. I grew up by this bike shop and around the neighborhood, I wanted to support a local business so I didn't think it was necessary to read up on reviews because I trusted that this place was actually good & decent but I was wrong. I understand downtown is probably a little more expensive and far but I rather spend a little more & travel in order to get the job that I need done and have the peace of mind instead of having to come back and get shitty work done. Save your money this shop charges Manhattan prices for terrible service. I have Never seen a bike shop so unorganized, you can find yourself waiting for help and wondering around like an idiot while waiting to be helped. With the covid 19 pandemic it is even worse while waiting outside, you can find crowds of people standing outside all over the place with no organized line at all. read more

Disliked the fact that he way overcharged to put some spokes & nipples on a rim, disliked the fact that he acted as if he was doing me a favor, disliked the fact he sold me a horn that broke the same day, and didnt want to exchange it, let alone refund my hard earned money. Did like the fact he was quick, though not quick enough to charge me for 3 hours at $80, WTF?!?! Waste your money here if you must, especially since there dont seem to be any other bicycle shops in the area, I myself will travel the extra mile for better service (Peak Mountain Bikes, Douglaston N.Y, Jerry is the man! $40 for the same exact job on the other rim), there are better places. I was a patron customer, not anymore, Bought a total of $10-12,000.00 bikes (in the past)from him. Yeah they're excellent selling, and even light fixing (quick work/easy money). But when I brought my MAVIC rim to be TRUED (my first service work). James the owner made me wait for 3 weeks for nothing. I am very disappointed he wasted my time, and that he picks his work for quick easy money versus doing what his suppose to do Right... provide excellent customer service and satisfaction. The first time I came here by necessity. I got a flat in the area (didn't have a spare tube) and after reading the reviews, expected the worst. I was pleasantly surprised. I expected some mean old curmudgeon but the fellow at the counter was polite. He fixed my flat. $15 is steep but I didn't have the equipment on hand so it was a small price to pay. The storefront is small (no frills) and I did not buy my bike here. I can imagine being close to the 6 train, the bike prices are at a premium. I don't understand the negative reviews because my experiences were positive. I went in yesterday looking for a new hardtail and I'll most like go back in there to purchase one. The selection of bikes at this shop is vast and with the help of owner James you can most likely find just the right one. If you talk to the owner and you know at least a little about bikes he can definitely assist you into finding the right one. Even showed him my beater mongoose and he went on to joke how it's already a hardtail since the front shock is shot. Terrible Terrible Bike Shop. Overcharged me to set up my electric bike. After I had a situation on my back tire her overcharged to change just 4 spokes ($50)and claimed he did minor work to the front tire. ($25). After tax I payed about $80 and THE VERY NEXT DAY MY BACK TIRE BREAKS DOWN ON ME On my way! HOME FROM DOWN TOWN WHERE I WORK.. I would not recommend this shop. I bought a bicycle and spend over $1,800 and realized that the bicycle was too big for me, and by the time I found out, it was too late. Stopped by the shop to pick up a couple of items today and make adjustments to my bike. It was crowded but they were very helpful.

I make sure to go there first thing in the morning when it's not so packed. It gets really really busy at times, but it's a small shop, and the weather is great. I'm usually someone who shops online for everything that I get, trying to save money here and there, but when it comes to something like a bike or a car I'm not going to play around. I leave that to pro's to fix and maintain, as I do not want to get injured. I buy the bikes from them because of the lifetime adjustment policy, and also knowing that their prices are the best in the city, and Westchester. They have a huge selection of merchandise so you are able to try it before you buy it. You do not have to blindly buy it online without knowing nothing about it. It's not like you get Toys R' Us or Target bikes there, you get bikes for serious riding. Compare them to their competition (which I do not want to name), and you can see that they do have the best service in the Bronx. read more

I restarted cycling in 2013 after a long hiatus- last rode on my Orient race bike in 1995. So I bought a hybrid Quick CX4 Cannondale off craigslist NYC from a guy who was its original owner who rode it for a year. Bought the bike for $500- and he threw in carry bag ($20), Kryptonite lock ($90) a helmet ($30) and portable tool kit ($15) for free so basically i paid about $350! Well done Mr Haroon! Great deal! Now comes the scary part ie my neighborhood bike shop. So I got a flat and went there, and was amazed that such a bike shop existed in Bronx as the inventory of bikes was good (Cannondales Specialized and others). The Starters: It took me 20 mins to get the owners attn, before that I asked a helper in there who didnt even give a hoot to my "excuse me". Well finally i yelled and the owner said how can he help me. I told him i needed to get the flat fixed. Without taking a breath he said "Its $12" you want????" I was like ok! He took the bike and said you need new tires, they not good. I told him they just had one year on them and look fine! He laughs straight on my face and states that they are cheap! OK!!! The thought process: The only thought at that moment I had was that may be this guy knows his shit. But I was sadly wrong! The Curiosity: If you are a revert biker, you have curiosity as biking has become a science. So to kill the cat, I asked him what tubes they usually use. The reply was "The best", I seriously thought it was a brand! The Heist: Well since that experience, I bought 2 tires from him where he charged me $20+ for the same tire in Manhattan with premium Installation charges. I then bought a bike rack and pannier (topeak) again $30 more than any shop even in Manhattan.Well I get the mantra of supporting your local bike shops but that is a complete rip off. So I turned to my guru, and she told me ONLINE. So i searched and was amazed why local bike shops are going out of work, most RIP YOU OFF and then blame the eShopping. Well the story goes on, I had another flat on THE BEST new tires- now I was charged $15! I was like what happened? why the raise from $12, the gentleman explained that he has installed a better tube so price is more! Well he didnt tell me at the beginning? I was waiting YOU WANT?The Shady acts: He had sold me Best tires with a guarantee that they are very solid and puncture resistant. Reminded him that its just 2 mos and 3 rides, he lies to my face that he never sells this BRAND! B The Awakening: I have learnt fews things about bikes doing various rides around city and making friends. I found this shop ripping neighborhood people by selling them what ever he has. Not a good practice! Business style: He is extremely rude, does not explain anything and is extremely dishonest. Good for him! The history: During a NYC Century ride 2014, I met a guy from Bronx and during our convo, he informed me that he had bought his Cannondale Synaspe Carbon bike ($2500) from this guy. His next suggestionw as AVOID HIM, why? as this guy sold a premium bike WITHOUT fitting him. He has no fitter so why bother. Golden rule: Remember that if you are buying any bike, get it fitted to your body through properly by seat height, bars and position. It can be done manually which I am sure he doesnt know. Most bike shops that sell good bikes get you fitted for free on their electronic on manual fitting techniques. The educated biker: In 2016 I bought a full carbon Cannondale Synapse from Cannondale Sports in Long Island, the guys didnt even sell and told me to have it fitted first, by coming back as their fitter was not in shop- then try it and buy it. Explained things properly and didnt not rush in selling their bike. When you are is spending money the seller should be courteous enough to respect it- this guy does not. The lessons: He takes advantage of local neighborhood people as most of them ride in summers and are not well versed in bikes or do not see many bike shops in Bronx. Well there are 2 Dannys cycles close by one in Pehlam Manor and one in New Rochelle. You can get most what he sells half or even less online or cheaper else where. I have been to Arrow bikes in Bronx, much better with 7 bucks flat repair. Poor customer service. Owner is rude. Shop is understaffed. The space is small. They won't even allow you to ride a bike for a few minutes before you purchase to make sure it's the right size/height/feel for you. There are other shops in the NYC area who manage to allow their customers to do this without any issues. I bought my bike from here because I didn't know any better. I came here on other occasions to have things repaired and checked out. It took forever to get someone to assist me, and another time I came in there with a minor issue, I feel like I got chewed out by the owner for coming to him for something so "mundane". I don't need ANY of that nasty attitude. I will take my business elsewhere. You should too. If you live in the Bronx and have a bike rack and a car, go up to New Rochelle and the bicycle shop next to New Roc City. Came here for the first time on 8/13/2016 Was impressed with amount and quality of bikes they had for sale. Customer service was not A1 but 1 young worker was actually trying to be helpful and informative. Went in for a bike lock and I knew exactly what I wanted to spend , was surprised to find one in my budget! A real quality lock at that! But the downside was a purchased a pair of gloves and a holder for the water bottle and was surprised at the price! Overall not terrible spot! Great to have a bike shoppe in this area! I've bought four bikes here since 2001, for me and for my family. For the combination of prices, selection and service, this is one of the NY metro area's 2 or 3 best shops. Arguably the best place to buy a new bike if you're spending more than a couple hundred dollars. One difference I've noticed is the excellent job the owner, James, does in setting up and adjusting new bikes. He will personally take the time to do the job right. There's another shop, in Bklyn, that has comparably good prices, but they did not do anywhere near as good a job on setup. Go to a bike shop on a weekend day during spring summer or fall, and it will be crowded, no surprise. Most shops will simply make you leave the bike for a few days or more, while this one will try to do the repair while you wait. I think some of the negative comments reflect a disconnect between people who might by a bicycle at Target or Toys R Us (where there is poor setup and service), vs. at a shop where people know what they're doing. read more

Terrible bike shop. I entered to simply get some air in my tires since they were a little low. He offered a cheap, used pump so that I could do it myself. I used the pump and it got stuck on my back tired. It took me 5 minutes to remove it. Finally I was able to remove it and tried the front tire. It wouldn't come off and eventually broke my tube. I told him his pump damaged my tire and I need it fix. He fixed it but then charged me for the tired even though his product damaged my bike. Terrible person and bike owner. In addition, his bikes are extremely over priced. I recommend going to Castle Hill Bike shop located on East Tremont Avenue. Great guy and affordable bikes. My bike cost $550 with 3 years service included. The same bike at the other location cost $750. DO NOT GO TO WESTCHESTER BIKE SHOP!! read more

I would've given them 0 stars but it wont allow me. I called the store a few days ago and asked if they replaced inner tubes for a fat tire bike and was told they do. I clearly explained that it was a 26' tire and noticed at some point that the person on the phone was no longer paying me attention and after asking how much was told it would $20. I walked my bike a mile to the store next day and as soon as I walked in I waited behind a customer at the counter and when he was finished the asian guy behind the counter simply walks off and goes in back to start fixing a bike totally ignoring me. Another worker had to tell him 3 times that I was here to fix a flat and then he looks at my bike and says we don't fix that one. Are you kidding me I called yesterday and he didnt deny remembering the call the night before then proceeds to tell me that he will sell me an inner tube but I need to put it in myself. This isn't the first bad experience at this location but I can promise you it will surely be the last. They need to just go close the store and let a real bike shop take over the spot. I advise no one to waste their time going here, taking it anywhere even a local bodega to the guy that fixes bikes in the back you'd be better off and it'd be half the price. Great shop with a knowledgable staff! I have been patronizing this shop for a number of years and have yet to encounter the lack of customer service noted by other reviewers. The owner will make note and advise if your bike isn't of good quality, but that is an honest assesment, and somtimes the truth hurts!! I had first visited this shop about 15 years ago and requested my POS ToysRUs mountain bike be tuned/adjusted. The owner fixed the bike without delay, and did tell me, straight away, that the bike was of poor quality and I could do much better, for not much more. Was it an honest and true assesment? Yes, but he never pushed me to purchase a bike from his shop. About six years ago I dropped the hammer and purchased a Specialized road bike and guess what.....he was 110% correct!!! The difference between a bike purchased from a mass retailer, and a LBS like this one is night and day! It's like going from driving a Yugo to driving a Lexus. The shop has been tuning/adjusting my Specialized yearly in the spring without issue and I am always satisfied with their work. This week I upgraded my bike's components from 105's to Ultegra's, and the job was done AS I WAITED, and the owner and his assistant were fast and efficient in their work. Again, everyone has an opinion, and I just wanted to add my personal observations. They are well stocked with QUALITY bikes, are knowledgeable in regards, and the prices are very resonable as compared to a lot of LBS's located in Manhattan. read more

It is quite unfortunate that there aren't enough bike shops in the Bronx. Westchester Bicycle Pro Shop is convenient but an awful place to get any repairs done. The owner and repair man is nasty, unfriendly, uncooperative, has poor customer service and treats his customer like a bike dictator. I had brought in my bicycle to have the brakes changed on Memorial Day; it was great they were open but other than that what an awful experience. You need to be persistent if you want to be acknowledged and your bike to be serviced - very unorganized. Goodness forbid you approach the owner to ask a question because he'll quickly dismissed you. What really upset me was that the owner looked at my brakes and said "this is a cheap bike, buy a better one because this frustrates me"...WTF!!! In any case, this place could be wonderful if you own an expensive bike otherwise you'll experience poor customer service and a LONG wait time. 2 thumbs down!!! read more
