After recently completing a home search in SF (Sunset/Richmond), I would highly recommend Chester and West Valley Structural for inspection services, for their expertise, thoroughness, and great communication. For the first home I bid on, a "blank slate" in a probate sale, my agent highly recommended Chester. I attended the inspection with my dad, an engineer who is not afraid to ask questions. Due to the nature of the sale, another inspector was also there with other buyers. I was impressed at Chester's thoroughness, hearing the extent of his evaluations and recommendations relative to the other inspector's (which I caught some of). I was also impressed that Chester not only handled questions from my dad, but really engaged with him on issues he had noted. Most importantly, Chester's explanations of the inspection left me feeling that I had a good handle on the time and expense needed for work on the home, and with a sense of priorities for the work. I did not end up winning the bid, which I was fine with, given the knowledge I had gained of the home. Later in my search (towards the end of 2022, when the market was slowing), I had an offer accepted with an inspection contingency. We needed a home and termite inspection for a house we were looking to buy. It was our first time and we needed some extra help and explanations. It's a family business that has been around since 1989 so obviously they are knowledgeable, but we were pleasantly surprised by the concierge-like service they provided. Jamie was replying to emails quickly and during off hours, which sold us on choosing West Valley Structural for our inspections. Other inspectors that I reached out to were very cold and corporate feeling--some didn't even reply! On the day of the inspection, Chester and Chester Senior arrived early--great sign. My wife and I recently bought our first house. It is a fixer upper and has some water damage and some dry rot. Not sure these guys are really on top of things. Many items in a report I paid for are silly and trivial. They seem to be looking for things to note instead of things that are really a hazard. I would not recommend. They left lights on, walked all through the house with out shoe protection. Basically left a mess everywhere they went. I was promised the report Monday and had no communication that there was a delay and they didn't even bother to send it to me, just my agent. Poor integrity. read more

I needed someone to inspect my roof and it was Friday afternoon.
