Office hours state both online, on their website and at roadside that they are open Sunday until 5 pm. I drove all the way from San Francisco. Upon getting to their gate, it said they have appointments only due to COVID. I called and the guy who answered said that he had not had time to update their website. COVID started 2 years ago...who has that little time to update hours on a website? He was very callous and knew I was in the parking lot.If he was inside, why not schedule an appointment for today? West Side Nursery is so affordable compared to the nursery nearby us with the fancy gift shop. West Side sells plants at very affordable prices. I bought three 5 gallon Russian Sage plants for only $21.49 each! They have ordered plants for me on two different occasions when I know what I wanted in advance, and even picked up and answered the phone on the day they were closed. And, if you're living in San Jose, the drive down there on McKean and Uvas is worth it alone! Gorgeous! My only complaint is that they offer no guarantees or returns/exchanges. That hasn't stopped me from shopping there, though, because the plants I've purchases have all been in beautiful shape and very affordable. read more

I first went to West Side Nursery when I moved to Gilroy 12 years ago. I have always wanted wisteria and asked Carrie about it. She found exactly the color of wisteria that I wanted, a variety that does well in Gilroy's climate. Twelve years later the four wisteria I bought from West Side are beautiful. They are the happiest plants in my yard, they are fast-growing and lovely, and they flower 2-3 times a year. They are a JOY to behold. In the meantime, Carrie and Chris helped me choose plants that bees and hummingbirds like and those plants, also, are thriving. Chris and Carrie have been so kind and helpful as I plant more drought-resistant varieties through my yard. I feel very lucky to have this resource right across the street from Bonfante Gardens. read more

This place is awesome! The second you walk into the property you get greeted by two adorable corgis! And the owners are so nice and very knowledgeable. We purchased a magnolia tree thAt was pretty mature in a 15 gallon bucket for 85 bucks and a hound avocado tree for 35 bucks! Steal! We also got two small rosemary plants for 7 bucks each. I had fun shopping here and my family did also. Plus they treat you well here! I wanted this certain avocado tree that was actually more expensive and she was honest and fair and told Me that it would probably not bear fruit and would does based on its condition. And I had no idea! Could've easily sold it to me and when it died I would've blamed myself! But she encouraged me to get a different breed of avocado tree and I did and it was way cheaper also! Overall good selection, good plants/trees, and great service.! And they're local! read more

Amazing selection. If they don't have what you are looking for they will do their best to find it for you. They are extremely knowledgeable, in the last three years we have learned so much and our yard is looking better and better. Save your questions for your visit. They take the time to answer them. We've purchased flowers and fruit trees from West Side Nursery because they are nearby, including a persimmon tree, apple tree with 6 varieties, nectarine tree, Wisteria flower, and a tropical milkweed. The milkweed comes back every year and has beautiful orange flowers, Monarch butterflies have even emerged from their chrysalides! The persimmon tree has yielded large crops of full-sized persimmons for the past 4 years. But that's where the quality drops. Our nectarine and apple trees that we purchased 7 years ago have always produced tiny little fruit as shown in the photo, in spite of excellent watering, pruning, and fertilizing, and the taste is meh. The wisteria that we also purchased 7 years ago from here to adorn our front porch entrance is green and lush but has not produced a single flower. I don't know what to say. They are friendly to work with but don't seen to have an answer for my problems. read more

Two stars for the two trees that survived out of the 5 we bought there. Sorry to break your 5 star trend but very disappointing! When I pulled the avocado tree out of the pot, the root was wound up tight in a ball. After some research I found that happens when the trees are not properly cared for or watered. I would have given 5 stars because the lady that helped us was extremely nice but not allowing returns for bad plants is bad business. read more

I had ordered 6 lambs ear plants. Was contacted by the nursery that my order was ready for pick up. My husband picked them up and planted them for me as a surprise. Upon closer observation I noticed that they were not lambs ear plants but something else ( some sort of mint or sage). When I contacted the nursery to let them know they had given us the wrong plants I was told that they could only do an exchange. Which would mean that we would have to dig up the plants and return them. My husband was not excited about this option. When I explained that I would prefer to have a refund for the difference or an equivalent amount of lambs ear plant for the difference I was told exchange only by the nursery. The nursery also said that the plants were probably about the same price even though they have no idea what type of plant they gave me and never tried to figure it out. I have never had a company make an error on their end and then ask the customer to do the work to resolve their error. I will never shop at this business again. Very poor customer service. read more

So happy we found West Side Nursery! We were in search of a particular shade of Crape Myrtle tree and they had exactly what we wanted. Carrie provided excellent customer service and was extremely knowledgeable about plants/trees for our area and their care. Such a welcomed change from Big Box garden centers. West Side has a large selection of healthy, flourishing plants and trees, fantastic prices and wonderful service. We won't go anywhere else for our gardening needs. read more

I found that this nursery was the best out of all the ones I had been to. They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They have everything you need from bareroot fruit trees, roses, shade plants, deer resistant, native, and drought tolerant plants. They also have a great selection of large box trees. If your a landscaper or a homeowner this is an excellent nursery to purchase all your plant needs . I love it! read more

Aside from being very knowledgeable and decently priced, the owners made sure to look everywhere they could to find the number of plants we wanted. They have some NICE ROSES, and a lot of gorgeous and healthy plants to choose from. Their prices are a bit high on some of it, but the quality you get is what you pay for. I have bought some lesser expensive plants from the box stores, and they usually get diseased, whereas the plants from West Side are healthy and flourish for us. An added plus is the owners are very nice and always super helpful and friendly! read more
