From the first week she moved in, they increased her monthly fee by thousands of dollars because she needed additional care. I would have agreed to it if they provided the care that they promised, but they did not. And once you are there, you are stuck paying the extra costs until you can get your loved one out. We had to hire private care to come in to care for our mother until we could find a better facility. Management does not care. We met with them several times, but nothing changed. My mother suffered many UTIs and a fall under their care, and several visits to the hospital. She was not like this when she first moved in. Neglect of general and hygiene care put her deeper and deeper into poor health. One example: My mother fell from her bed in the early morning. An aide came in and saw her on the floor. She looked at her but did not bend down to see if she was okay. The aide left and came back 15 minutes later with help. 15 minutes! I would not recommend this facility if your loved one needs assistance.

This facility did not even have my mom sign the contract even though she was perfectly capable of making her own decision to contract with a stay at home service just a week before and to sign the documents herself. Instead, they allowed her grandson to sign for her and to commit her to over a hundred thousand dollars a year. She didn't completely understand all of the extra fees. Almost nine thousand dollars a month for the most basic of care and you charge for phone and cable? You have extra fees for laundry to be done? She said, "They don't even provide toilet paper." When I asked how much it would be if my mom needed to be wheeled in a wheelchair to get to her meals etc., I didn't get a straight answer. It was, oh we'll reevaluate. We just can't say. They also charge $5,000 for you to even move in. When I asked what this was for, they said it's standard to charge for the nurse to sit with the resident and make a plan. Really? $5,000? The at-home service did that for free before she even signed their contract. Sounds like the sales person is getting a nice big commission.

My…read morefather in law has been at this facility for the past 5 months after having a difficult surgery and Blackstone valley rehab has undoubtedly been the worst part of the experience. During his time there, they have fed him a steady diet of hotdogs and canned foods and vegetables. He often doesn't get a drink with this, and when he does, it's some sugary beverage. This isn't a suitable diet for a healthy person, never mind an 88 year old man with diabetes and a history of heart issues. When we brought this up to the nurse and the administrators, they claimed ignorance. Yet, even after agreeing to cater his diet going forward to accommodate his medical needs, they continue to give him the same diet. He is often left to sit in soiled undergarments for hours as staff forgets to clean him. On one occasion, we noticed that he abruptly experienced swelling and pain in his leg, which he told us occurred when he fell. We brought the incident up to his main nurse, Loeuis, who responded by admonishing us for questioning their care. She curtly replied that the matter was never reported and therefore never occurred. Although we implored her to inquire with the staff, she refused and advised that she trusted all her staff implicitly so such a thing was impossible. She went further and suggested that my father in law was confused and possibly had dementia, however he has recounted the same experience repeatedly with no variation and has never displayed any signs of confusion or dementia. While at blackstone rehab, there have been nights were only a single nurse has been on for the entire facility, there have been days were his medication was forgotten, his clothes have gone missing, etc etc. For sake of brevity I'll limit the multitude of negative experiences suffered at this health care facility. Unfortunately, our experience here is not unique. We've since made friends who have loved one's staying at blackstone rehab and their experience is similar. For a facility that charges 15k a month, works with a limited staff, offers limited services, and clearly spends little to no money on patients food, you have to wonder where it's all going.

Trusted Like Family was recommended to us by my physical therapist. Mike and his staff were very responsive to our needs in scheduling aides. Mike would come the first day each caregiver started to introduce them to us and go over the needs we had. The aides who came a couple of times a week, would help with grocery pick-up, meal prep, personal assistance if needed and light house cleaning. We looked forward to their visits each week. I highly recommend Trusted Like Family if you or your family member need assistance or care at home.

After surgery, I spent 8 days at Life Care Center of Acton. Staff was great in getting me back on…read moremy feet and ready to return home. I want to single out some staff members who went over and beyond to help me (sorry that I know only first names). My main physical therapist, Kristen, was terrific. She was kind and patient with me, and encouraged me (gently) to push myself. Thanks, Kristen. Nurse Carole was among the hardest working staff members, and she was extremely helpful to me and my roommate. How she kept her cheerful demeanor for her entire shifts was a mystery. The facility's physician, Dr Elkrem, was careful and very pleasant every time we interacted. Several members of the facility's admin staff stood out for helping me and making me feel that my needs would be taken into account: the dietician, Jenny, head of PT, Kelly, and head of admissions, Jenny. Being in rehab is no fun, but these people made the challenging situation more than tolerable. And they got me ready to go home.

From the minute I arrived until the last day of my stay in rehab from some severe…read moreGallbladder/Pancreas problems (gallbladder is full of stones) i was treated with respect, care and dignity, the food was great, the nursing staff was top notch, they would answer any questions I had, and, if they did not know the answer they would say I'll go find out, but they wouldn't blow me off they a tally got my answer and came right back. I applaud their nurses and staff all the way down to the maintenance staff. I especially want to mention one nurse in particular Nurse Moon/Mun? (Spelling may be off I never saw how she spelled her name) always took time to explain things to me, always gave me the story if it was another or a new medicine I had to take, or to answer questions. She was so sweet and attentive. She is truly a credit to her profession, I hope this reaches her to let her know much of a difference she made under her care. I felt more safe with her on duty.
