    My mother recently passed away here and we couldn't have been more pleased with her care. The entire staff was kind and caring and demonstrated a generosity of spirit that you absolutely need at a time like this. I genuinely felt that they cared for mom the way we would have if she were home with us. In addition to the staff I should mention that the hospice house is a warm, intimate, and impeccably maintained facility in a quiet residential area overlooking a beautiful reservoir. Each of the 10 private rooms has a balcony or walk out patio which makes for a very comforting setting. While there are larger and newer hospice options closer to our home in Acton I would definitely choose the Rose Monahan Hospice Home if we had to do it again. And so would mom.

All members of the team were tightly coordinated and in sync in supporting us as my husband's transition accelerated after a very painful fracture of the shoulder. From Faith, a very experienced hospice aide, to McKenzie, the case manager who visited us almost every day, to Connie the weekend nurse whose wisdom, insight and patience carried us forward, to Catherine, the social worker, Valerie, Reiki specialist, and Frank the Chaplin - all brought unique and supportive perspectives as we navigated this challenging time. My husband and I wanted to do hospice at home and as his decline accelerated, this hospice team made the journey possible. If someone was unable to answer a question, they admitted it & got the answer for us. As a nurse, I can be very picky with medical care. We were so lucky to have Lindsay as the primary nurse for my mother in law. She guided the entire family ( 6 children!!!) through the dying process. She was able to anticipate needs of everyone & facilitated them, while always putting my mother in law first. She was also able to arrange for a well needed massage from Poppy who was perfect. I cannot say enough about this hospice team!!! The best- don't go anywhere else.

    Salmon Health & Retirement gives inadequate care. The nursing staff is very good but they have too…read moremany patients and I'm sure Salmon is compliant with government regulation for staff to patient ratio, however, the needs of the patients are often not met. The rehab is not well kept and patients are left in beds and/or in wheel chairs for hours on end. The aides are not well trained and some neglect and verbally abuse the patients. Some disoriented patients wander around in and out of rooms and hallways unnoticed by staff. The food is often cold and the staff does not always have the same clinical information about each patient. I will go so far as to say this is neglect and abuse. I do not recommend Salmon Health and Retirement for any level of care, Assistant Living, Rehab and skilled nursing. Julie, visitor and family member.

At that time, my Mom wasn't ready to move. This past October, my Mom needed to be placed into a nursing home. I chose Beaumont in Natick, due to high ratings and the proximity to where I live. My Mom passed away last Tuesday. In all candor, this last 9 months was very frustrating. The facility is understaffed and the staff is completely overworked. I visited almost daily. If I hadn't, honestly, I feel that my Mom would have been very neglected. When I went to her dead body, and to call the funeral home, the staff was completely cold and detached and I received no direction whatsoever. What happened to once well-run facilities? We paid $14,000 a month, out of pocket. I'd welcome a longer conversation with the Salmon brothers. I wrote to them several months ago and received no response.
