Our room had a full sized bed and also a bunk bed. The amount of space was just enough for the 2 of us. The bathroom is a little small, specifically the shower but since we're small people it was fine. Check-in is contactless--they send you info on how to check in and where to park the day before your arrival. I really appreciated how fast they responded to requests and concerns. I texted them twice about a light bulb and also about the door code not working and someone was there to fix both issues within a few minutes. Also, the breakfast spread in the morning was really good! They had a coffee machine, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, granola bars. In addition there was an also a different burrito or sandwich plus pastry for us to grab each morning.

Situated near Donner Lake, the Inn is perfectly situated to be close to the famous Donner Historic Park (just a few minutes up the freeway) and also the beautiful Donner Lake beach area. There is also a great little pub across the street from the beach area, too. Downtown Truckee is also just a few minutes down the freeway. And, although it wasn't snow season yet, it's also close by the Donner Ski area. The property as some parking spots that are convenient to the lodging rooms. The family run lodge has no-frills style breakfast take-away items - such as boiled eggs, yogurt, granola bars, and also some featured made items (scones and breakfast burritos), but be aware it's available from around 7:30a (and our hikes had us leaving earlier than that). The rooms are "self-check" style, so be prepared to read your follow up communications from the managers w/your check in process. The rooms are simple but clean - featuring a controlled temperature stovepipe style fire place and window seat overlooking the forest behind the lodge. There is also a small stream on one side of the property. All-in-all a great spot that's convenient and less crowded and less-pricey than most spots in the Truckee area and the rooms are quaint and rustic but nice, too.

We arrived shortly after check-in time on a Wednesday and were able to get our keys without too much trouble, although the lady that was checking us in didn't seem too suited for customer service - she gave off sarcastic, "I don't want to be here" vibes. Our room itself was cozy, clean, and comfortable. Some of the items could have been better stocked before our stay, such as the tissues - I think we only had a few of them in the box so quickly ran out and had to request housekeeping bring more the next day. Housekeeping isn't done daily so you do have to request it manually if you need anything. There were a couple of water stains on the ceiling but nothing too major. All toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, and hand soap are provided and the quality is actually pretty decent. I was very impressed with the complimentary breakfast included in your stay. You have hot items like eggs, potatoes, and sausage as well as cereal, muffins, bread, oatmeal, and a waffle maker. The hot items rotate, too, so you don't have the exact same breakfast each day of your stay. Staff was friendly, and the common area was very comfortable with a fair amount of seating. I believe coffee is also available all day. There was a power outage during our stay that lasted around 6-7 hours but luckily it happened in the middle of the night so most people probably didn't even realize it and it didn't impact our stay at all. I just happened to notice when I woke up in the middle of the night and noticed lights not turning on and some electronics not working.

I would recommend staying here if you are headed to North Star or Palisades to go skiing and snowboarding. Very conveniently located! The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. I found the Truckee Hotel / Saloon & got a room. They told me about the shared bath down the hall. I thought, sarcastically, how quaint. I got to my room. Somewhere upstairs on the Eastern side. It was dark out and still snowing. My body found the bed and was attacked by a feather mattress! That new experience didn't last long as I was asleep the second my head hit the pillow. I was out cold until morning. The beautiful sunrise in the window filled the room. As I looked around, I was completely disoriented, having no clue where I was, or why I was there. Seeing the antique water bowl & pitcher along with the other decor, I felt as if I had traveled back in time. Then I went to the window. A thick blanket of snow covered everything. I was able to make out the outlines of a sawmill across the street. There was no activity outside. Several minutes had passed and I was still very confused. I opened the door and just a few steps down the hall I found the bath. Peeking in, I saw the clawfoot bathtub, sink, with pipes exposed on the walls. Only then did I remember the woman telling me about the bath down the hall. Finally after figuring out where I was, I was able to appreciate my surroundings. The room wasn't merely adequate, it was more on the spectacular side. Such attention to detail, as if it was still in the 1800s. That was the first and only time in my life when I made up a hotel bed after sleeping in it! I actually felt guilty that I had disturbed anuthing. I collected my few belongings and staggered down the stairs. Before I had the chance to ask, the same woman who had rented me the room asked how I wanted my coffee! My wife isn't even that fast! Back on life support, she asked if I was satisfied with my room and if I slept OK. I was completely honest & said that I didn't even look at it before I fell asleep. Then I was out cold until a few minutes ago. Once I figured out where I was, it was only then that I truly appreciated it. Even the shared bath was immaculate. All of that, especially the service was extremely uncommon in the 1970s. I really had gone back in time 100 years! After drinking about a gallon of coffee, I was able to venture outside. I found my new Ford 4x4 pickup covered in a couple feet of snow! I actually had to dig it out. By the time I was done, the Interstate was open and I headed back to Nevada, promising myself that I'd return someday when I had more time to appreciate it. While I've passed through Truckee many times since, I still never had the opportunity to stop. Someday I still plan to keep my promise. I've stayed at the full spectrum of hotels & motels but this has always been my favorite. Perhaps I was born in the wrong century. I hope that when I finally return, that it's still as great as I remember. This was the kind of place that I'd invite my parents to stay. They were extremely well off and only stayed in the finest accommodations. I know, without any doubt that while different than most places, that they would be very comfortable there. I hope it's still the same. One more thing... After sleeping on a feather mattress, I drained my waterbed and bought my own feather bed! I highly recommend this place!

The Bad: The room was "tired" and depressing with grime in the bathroom and carpet. The price was way too high for the poor condition of the room. Our fifth-floor room was sharp and spacious. Bed and pillows were comfortable enough. We enjoyed the Club Lounge access (same floor!); it was an amazing amenity and absolutely worth it. One of the highlights was meeting onsite manager Gus completely by happenstance. He immediately elevated what was already a wonderful, customer-forward experience. It's not vacation unless I make a trip to the spa. And I am so grateful for my experience! I had a 100-minute massage with Joey, and my knots, adhesions, and trigger points were no match for her firm yet incredibly gentle hands. She took extra time and care with me, and I was especially touched by her compassion as we discussed some of my ongoing needs following breast cancer. After my massage, I had a 50-minute facial with Bree, and her hands were unbelievably therapeutic and relaxing. She listened carefully to my concerns and personalized the experience beautifully. The California Organic Facial using Eminence Organic Skin Care left my skin deeply hydrated, refreshed, and glowing. Five stars for the property, the setting, the service, and especially the people who made our stay so memorable. Gus, Joey, and Bree , thank you for making an already beautiful Tahoe experience truly exceptional. I would love to return!
