Truckee Donner Lodge - 3am 2nd floor - Hotels Near Me - Truckee, California

This review is long overdue but here I am. When we got there we met the receptionist, who was able to accommodate us when we called in for an early check-in. She doesn't smile too much, but is helpful and efficient. The whole lodge smelled clean and fresh, just like Truckee fresh air. Our room was spacious and clean and the view of the pine trees was amazing. The linens were clean and soft. Bed is comfy. The bathroom is also spic and span, however the body wash was not refilled. But we really didn't mind because we brought our own. I give the housekeepers a score of 11 stars! The place is clean, even the elevator! The dietary staff were amazing too! Breakfast was yummy! Pancake/waffle batter is fluffy and was dispensed on a little cup for an exact amount you need for the maker. This lodge offer free coffee all day, yum! And also has a water fountain for your water bottle refulls close to the entrance. This lodge also sits beside a coffee shop, if you choose something fancier. Overall, I love this lodge and for the price that includes free breakfast, we'll definitely be back. read more

We stayed here one night for a sports tournament, the place was nice and clean. Has free 24 / 7 coffee and hot chocolate machine as well as tea bags in the lobby. Asked for roll away crib at check in and was told they are not available for double queen rooms due being fire hazards. Luckily we brought a pack n play (pack n play does not fit in the closet but would in the inside corner of the room or in the bathroom with the door open). Beds and pillows were of a medium quality and the hot breakfast was ok with an automatic pancake maker. The elevator was a bit slow and clunky, when I looked at the inspection it was expired by 1 year and 8 days. Pool and hot tub were clean but I could not get the jets to start using the timer. read more

Impossible to reach management / Predatory policies. Extremely disappointed in the management at Truckee Donner Lodge. I spent an entire week trying to resolve a travel issue caused by extreme weather and highway closures. The front desk repeatedly claimed the manager was 'unavailable' and refused to help with an Expedia modification, despite the hotel being unreachable due to the storm. They are hiding behind 'non-refundable' fine print to profit off of families who are stuck behind road closures. There are many other lodges in Truckee that actually care about their guests and understand mountain logistics--stay elsewhere. read more

The rooms rates were at a great rate especially to comparable quality hotels. When I first arrived the young receptionist was not hospitable or friendly, but one bad apple didn't ruin my visit the rest of the staff was very friendly. The hotel grounds along with the decor inside was up to date & very welcoming. As you walk in it just smelt clean. The Lobby felt like home - comfortable furniture and large fireplace for ambiance. To the left of the lobby has a wonderful small library along with board games if you choose. Hotel offers a pool and hot tub. I was very satisfied with the rooms. The bedding was absolutely heavenly, plush down pillows and fresh bright white bedding. Bathrooms have great pressure and offer plenty of towels as well as shampoo, conditioner and body wash pumps in showers which i prefer over tiny travel sized awful shampoo combos you find elsewhere. Hotel offers a great breakfast variety from 630-930 am. I also absolutely love the coffee / latte machine available all day long with a great variety of teas as well as honey . Thank you for a wonderful visit read more

For some reason they have a severe grudge against online booking apps like hotels.com and booking.com, which a lot of people use to keep track of their reservations and to earn rewards or points. They will not allow cancellation under any circumstances per my personal experience, including bad weather. Beware. If you must use them, be sure to book on their website and demand a clear understanding of their policies. Regarding the facilities, it's plain and a bit tired. No frills for sure, including old TVs and thin walls. I hope not to stay there again. read more

The staff are friendly I accidently overpaid for a room that was already booked via my boss as dealing with this issue desiree helped me out she was friendly understanding helped out all the way til the end very professional the only criticism I could give is I wish she spoke a little louder but you can't win everything totally 10/10 also who can go wrong with 24 hours free coffee and a continental breakfast in the morning eggs and sausage one day eggs and bacon the next a variety of apples and bananas cereal hot and cold and a few other items like bagles cream cheese yogurt and waffles read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! Absolutely terrible customer service. When we arrived the pool and jacuzzi were broken. We specifically booked this hotel for the pool. We told them we were canceling our reservation because they falsely advertised a working pool/jacuzzi. The front desk said a manager would need to approve a refund. We've been calling and emailing the manager for over a month now and haven't reached any manager yet. Now we're out $300. read more

I just stayed here with friends for my 50th Birthday. I remember I really wanting to plan something special. Lord knows how I ended up on this place! Going in to the lobby, it gives "dimly lit lodge" vibes and there is an overwhelming odor of Pine-Sol. The lady didn't ask for ID when I checked in and that creeped me out. I came to find that all the staff were unhappy and appeared untrained in any type of customer service skills. A big bonus was a 24/7 Coffee machine in the lobby that made lattes and such. They had a good selection of coffee and tea condiments! Also a bonus was the free breakfast with a good selection of bread, cereal, waffles, bagels, eggs, bacon, juice, fruit, etc. The elevator was super creepy and was only used to transport luggage. My friend's room stank like rot. I don't know how they survived in there. I would have asked to move rooms. My room was fine. The TV was outdated and no "Guide". I had to press the remote buttons multiple times to change a channel. My daughter said there was a huge bug in the ceiling corner by the dining area. Bugs freak her out. The pool was ok but full of bugs. Again with the bugs. The hot tub was inconsistent temperature-wise. And the jets were pathetic! The maids came every day and did a good job! The pillows were soft. I hate that there weren't extra blankets. It's super close to Donner State Park and you can walk a trail straight to Donner Lake. It was really pretty! read more

This has been the best stay out of town in a very long time! It is cozy, a true lodge with games books a fire place and sitting areas. Very clean! Smells fresh throughout the Lodge. Rooms are good size, lots of space. Blankets and pillows could be upgraded or add more, I love that windows actually open and how beautiful the views are. The lady that serves the included hot delicious breakfast was so sweet and I will have cash for tips next time! I wish it was open until 10am tho. Love that the hot tub is open in the snow. We had such a magical little adventure for my son and I! Very kind people staying here too. Honestly, cannot wait to go back soon! All staff were very friendly and positive. Only complaint would be the heat in the halls and common areas was too high and need extra or more pillows and blankets read more

I stayed here the night of the 4th of July. My daughter and her family were camping at the Donner campground right next door and I don't do too well with dry camping at my age. So I was only planning on being in the hotel room to sleep and shower. The front desk ladies at check in and check out were very nice but I was not impressed at all with the room. Instead of going directly through the lodge to book, I used Booking.com because they had a better rate. And everyone knows that when you don't book direct, you're given a room that's less desirable than if you booked directly with the hotel. But still, for $300 a night the room that I was assigned looked more like a $99 a night room. The quality of the sheets were terrible. Thin and so badly wrinkled! I even found a bug on top of the comforter looking thing. I went to flick it off and it went flying. I mean it had wings and I never saw it again. The bathroom was the worst! The wood on the door was peeling from the bottom. And the door itself had seen better days. The shower wall was a darker color from the top of the bathtub to about 1/4 way up. So was there mold behind there? Most likely since it was noticeable in the caulking in many places of the bathroom. Thankfully the TV (with adequate channels), fridge (and the tiny freezer I did use) the lighting, blackout curtains, etc. All else was in good working condition. But I just can't see staying here again at that rate. Not even on a holiday! read more

What could improve the staff literally the property is a decent mid-range hotel property but the arrogant and rude staff absolutely ruins this property especially the general manager who treats people like she doesn't even understand what the definition of customer service is and treats people with some sort of comedy movie mall cop arrogant bad attitude. It's literally deplorable. SMH read more

Stayed here for a few days since we were going skiing at soda springs which was about 15 minutes away. Located right off highway 80. Across the Chevron & new construction of townhouses. Plenty of parking in front. Outdoor pool & jacuzzi. Laundry room but did not use. Did Not see a gym. Room with small fridge & microwave. Smaller tv. Not enough electrical outlets near the bed compared to other hotels. 4 of us stayed comfortably in a 2 queen bed. No daily cleaning service due to Covid. Bathroom has some mold on ceiling & hair dryer does not work. Otherwise. Hallways have a pleasant smell & appear clean. Grab & go Breakfast 6-9am, was actually very filling. Microwaveable sausage & egg sandwiches. Ready made waffles, hard boiled eggs. Fresh cut up Fruit available. Pastries, toaster for your bagels. Staff very friendly. Would stay here again if in the area. read more

Cute little spot, close to the freeway but really couldn't hear it at all even with a room facing it. Morning "buffet" breakfast was not only efficient and enjoyable, but the staff were so friendly and attentive. Only downside was that the hot tub jets weren't working, and the walls/hallways could use some updating and painting. Room had quaint fixtures and the lobby felt very "Truckee". read more

Couldn't make reservation due to winter storm. Asked to reschedule to a future date and pay the difference. Destiny, the manager at Truckee Donner lodge turned a blind eye. No response to multiile calls and emails over multiple days. Hotels always blame third party sites like booking.com for lack of customer service but  the reality is that lesser properties would happily pocket the money without trying to help the guest. Would not recommend booking here. Read other reviews in this thread, very similar. No customer service. I have stayed here mutiple times and it's not worth the price. Booked a one night stay for me and my partner. Mainly came for the hot tub that was open. Finally went to go in the spa and the water was green and the water had a moldy smell. I own a pool and this hot tub obviously hasn't been cleaned in a while. Asked the woman at front desk to see when the last cleaning was and she said she didn't know and to talk to the manager tomorrow morning, which is when I have to check out. Really bummed out that I wasn't able to enjoy the hot tub. read more

I booked this lodge for one night over labor day weekend (today). When I showed up after a 4 hour drive, my reservation was not found. We collectively realized that the date was accidentally changed online during the booking process for 2 weeks in the future. This could have been my fault...or the site I was using. Because of their strict cancelation policy, they would not give me a refund or even apply the amount towards a new stay for the day I showed up (today). The 3rd party we used contacted the hotel and the hotel denied any concession. My family and I booked a different place. Let's just assume the error was on my part. It would have been good customer relations to help us out. Especially since the mistaken night was still 2 weeks out, and I'm sure they would be able to rebook the room. This left a poor taste in my mouth and feel there are better accommodations around that show better courtesy. read more

It's kinda basic. If you aren't lucky enough to have your own Tahoe ski house, this is a good lodging option that's all about location. Super convenient to I-80 and to Tahoe Donner Ski Resort. Also, Soda Springs & Sugar Bowl are just down the freeway a bit. Location is the main draw and 48 hour cancellation is good in case a storm blows through and ruins your weekend plans. Staff was friendly, rooms are fairly clean, but not fancy. Bathtub could use new grout - kinda corroded. Breakfast was adequate, although it's a sh*tshow in the AM with 40 people all scrambling for a place to sit and to get some of the food that they put out and a line 4-5 people long to get some coffee from the machine. You won't be impressed in the least by this place, but if you need a place to crash before and/or after skiing, it does the trick just fine. read more

This one surprises you. I had a free three day weekend without the Wife and Girls come up at the relative last minute. I knew the weekend after New Years would be rather busy, but a desperate hotel web search found this place at a rate that was very reasonable compared to similar hotels. The location has an advantage and disadvantage of being so close to I-80; you can access both Squaw Valley/Alpine and Northstar at roughly equal distance. You'll have to deal with the drive and parking to either mountain (although I don't know if they had a shuttle service). Check-in was very efficient, I think a couple of the staff were related and I suspect the business has family management. The property is dated but remarkably well-maintained. Rooms are very clean and all items were functional. Bed was comfortable as were the pillows. Televisions were relatively new, but didn't have Netflix/Hulu etc. I was there only a night so I really didn't get a chance to explore the amenities. The breakfast was waffles, muffins, and powdered eggs, the quality was along the lines of a Fairfield Inn or similar hotel. The parking lot needs an architect to take a look at space configuration, I know they have limited space but I swear it could be done better. Overall, this experience would have been four stars, decent enough at a value price. However, dumbass me left his phone behind after he checked out and went skiing for the entire morning before realizing he didn't have it. I drove to the hotel, asked the lady behind the desk, and she noted how she tried calling me and sending e-mails to find me. She would have found me one way or the other, and she was doing her best to get me my phone back...that kind of service must be recognized and for that reason I'd come back here again with pleasure. read more

Destinee was so helpful! I had a lovely stay. Everything was so clean in the room. Everyone was so friendly!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I have never been treated with such disrespect in my life. This place is disorganized, rude, and unprofessional. We booked a room here to stay Saturday night for a festival and the weather was too harsh for our car to get up the mountain. We didn't want to jeopardize our car and more importantly our lives so we attempted to cancel. We called early in the morning and spoke to one front desk girl who said to contact the third party and we did. Booking.com called them to which they said they needed an email from booking.com to request a free cancellation due to the weather. The third party emailed them. We called the front desk again a little later in the day and the front desk girl said they did not receive the email and gave us two emails to send it to and then confirmed over the phone "yes we can do the full refund once the email is received". Called booking.com and they stated that Truckee Donner Lodge has the wrong email on file so they had to call and verify the new email. When booking.com called the front desk the girl, who specifically refused to give her name, said she could not give us a refund. We merged the call with both the lodge and booking.com where this girl was rude and disrespectful and should not be anywhere near customer service. She stated she never said that and the girl who did was in the restroom and we can wait. We stated why is one worker allowed to confirm a refund and she won't approve the refund. She said that's the policy and it doesn't matter about the weather "people come up here for the snow..so". We asked for her manager who she claimed she just spoke to "she says we can't have a merged call" and she said she is speaking to her through their personal system. She then stated the only way we can contact the manager is through email and the manager does not have a business phone. This girl also stated that "she doesn't know if the manager is coming in or not due to the snow". I hope the manager has some decency to help people with some hospitality. I am beyond upset and hope no one has to deal with such frustration and disrespect. read more

Not good. I hoped to spend my time post-skiing in an environment that was hospitable and suited my needs. This was NOT the case. First, the hotel manager was very rude and told me and my young 6 year old boy to "F** off" ALSO, I called prior to getting a reservation to the hotel (2 months ago) asking if they had a WORKING hot-tub. The answer was yes, however to my surprise when we asked about the broken hottub when we were there, they informed me that it had been broken for 4 months and that we should have asked if anything was broken beforehand!!! read more

I was supposed to stay elsewhere one night but my reservation got lost. I booked a night here via a third party site because it had the best rates (that wasn't a sketchy-looking motel). When I arrived, lo and behold, my reservation was technically on the wrong date. (At this point, it was nearly 3am, and I could not check in until 3pm). Cue the EXCELLENT customer service. I was helped by an employee at the front desk named Dana. He was not only incredibly friendly, but extremely understanding and accommodating. He SAVED my evening, my sanity, and my "relaxing" vacation! He saw that there was a room available, got me checked in, and I was able to finally rest after a LONG day of driving from San Francisco to Truckee late at night. He not only helped me snag a room, but he helped me reverse a complicated issue with the third party site (note to self -- call a property DIRECTLY for availability, deals, and more because 3rd party sites take so much from small businesses!). The room was spacious, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. I had considered cancelling my booking at the other resort so I could stay here longer...but I will be sure to keep this amazing hotel in mind for a near-future visit. Breakfast and coffee are included, as well as gorgeous outdoor scenery. It is also very conveniently located. Very special thank you to Dana. Your kindness, your professionalism, and SUPERB customer service is what I hope all future travelers get to experience! read more

The hotel is ok but don't expect much. It smells as soon as you enter and the staff is not helpful. They are annoyed if you ask for any basic service. The free breakfast is convenient but not tasty. Truckee Donner Lodge - View from the room. - Hotels Near Me - Truckee, California

Eastbound on 80, the first hotel you see in Truckee isn't all that bad. The Truckee Donner Lodge was one of the few places I could get a room with same-day notice on a summer Saturday. And not exactly a cheap room - $169 seemed a bit steep for such a no-frills place, but it was cheaper than a lot of other places nearby. I suppose it is a tourist area. Beyond that, I can't say too much more. An average room with average amenities. (Think Holiday Inn). Very clean. Free wi-fi was a plus. Bad room coffee was a minus (but they made up for it with good coffee in the lobby). The only other minus was the inability to close the curtains fully (I had to engineer something to block the streetlights from outside). I arrived late; I slept almost immediately; I woke at 7, showered and left quickly with coffee and a few snatched items from the continental breakfast bar. (they had eggs, but they looked like they might have been powdered) I'd stay again... but only after checking other places and prices first. read more

Warm and convenient parking, beautiful view! Staff is not the best at welcoming or conversation. However, the rooms are spacious and super clean lux! Complimentary breakfast, with more than cereal and fruit ! 24 hr beverage bar (hot tea and chocolate) Wish they had more outlets near bed to charge tech... wish the flat screen was a bit bigger, this one is like 35in maybe 40...However. They have complimentary toiletries and a nice fridge, coffee, microwave, ironing board and hair dryer. Love the full mirror closet! They have convenient luggage carts to carry in your stuff and a nice fireplace sitting area to lounge! Decora is lodge modern. Unfortunately our bathtub leaked, which was a bummer bc it wouldn't stay full...and they only had 1 extra pillow available :/ They didn't mind checking us in early, the view from our window is the truckee river, blanketed in lovely snow, icicles hanging from the roof...it is a bit of a drive to Tahoe or downtown truckee, but worth it. Tahoe Donner Ski park is only 2.5 miles away, but we got lost trying to find it. There is so much snow, and they have a food & drink delivery driver, too! Best Western in Truckee is way better, their breakfast is a smorgasbourgh of amazing cooked food, this one is like cafeteria food. Best Western has like 100 board games to.play for families in the lodge sitting area and a much larger dining area!!! Their pool and spa are heated all year around, you can use the pool and spa while it is snowing and the snows melts on the pool grounds. The tubs are twice the size for bathing and the staff 100x friendlier, the elderly here seems to find you rude if you speak to hear with a smile or ask a question or try to strike up a conversation....? They have no playing cards and the best Western location in truckee is 30 seconds from the main strip while this location is farther...don't come here when there is a better option for the same price, go to the best Western in town! read more

I sent an email asking to check in 1 hour early a week before my reservation. I never got a response. I called the day before and asked if it was possible to check in early and was told it might be possible. I arrived 30 mins early. My room wasn't ready, which is fine, and the front desk lady politely told me check in time is after 3. So, I sat down. I'm still here waiting at 3:45 pm. I have watched no less than 8 families/couples check in before me. No one has offered an apology or even acknowledged that I am still waiting. The lobby seems ok. At this point, I might as well take a nap by the lovely fireplace. I can't comment on the room because I haven't even seen it yet, but since I started typing this review, 2 more groups have checked in. If I could cancel and book a hotel that actually wants my business, I would. I will never stay here again. Update: we finally got checked in at 4 pm. On a positive note, the room was reasonably clean, and the location is great. Boreal is 15 mins away and has night skiing. Downtown Truckee is a 5 mins away and has plenty of decent restaurants/pubs. There is a large convenience store and a Taco Bell within walking distance if you need a snack. After skiing, we decided to use the hot tub, which is open til 10 pm. When we got outside, the pool area was very dark, and there was a cover on the hot tub. It looked closed, so we decided to go inside to ask. Getting inside was not as easy as it should have been. The card reader for the door into the hotel would not read our key card, so we had to walk around to the front. The front desk attendant explained the hot tub is open, it is dimly lit, and it is ok to remove the cover. We appreciated the clarification. When I told him about the door not working, he said, "Actually, it does. You don't even need the key. You just have to pull on it". Confused, we returned to the pool area to use the hot tub, which was relaxing and great. After using the tub, we tried once again to use our card to get back into the hotel. I thought maybe I just didn't do it right or something. Both of us tried it. Actually, it doesn't work, so we had to walk around to the front, dripping wet, through the lobby. I was cold and the clerk was on the phone, so I didn't bother to report it a second time. Some of the staff members are wonderful. The woman out, there was a different woman at the front desk. She was attentive and nice. Overall, this place is just ok. Some of the staff members would benefit from some customer service training. I understand that our room wasn't ready, but they could have acknowledged that we were still waiting while 10 other groups checked in. It would have gone a long way. read more

Stayed there from Jan 13-15 2020. Decent place, rooms are good, clean and the staff is friendly. However being that said there are a couple of things, I feel I need to point out: * Breakfast: it was good but the selection was slim. * Heating/cooling system in the room: it is a antiquated system. You seem them a console on the fool near the window. It was hard to keep the room temperature just right. It was either too hot or too cold. Overall it is a decent room, despite its quirks. read more
