I'm so happy that I found Art Tent. I pretty much found them from a google search trying to find my…read moredaughter an art class. Art Tent is located on South Beretania right across the street from the Honolulu Police Station. They have a drop off spot on Beretania by Bo's Kitchen but the long term parking is in the back of the building. The back of the building is on Kinau Street and is in the 800 Mauka Plaza parking. There's a lot of parking back there. My daughter just finished up her second session at Art Tent Studios. She took the late class on Saturday for grades 1-3 with Mrs. Okano. At first we didn't know what to expect with art class. We didn't know anyone who attended art class here but we just wanted to try because my daughter loves art. It was such a good experience. Her teacher, Mrs Okano, is so creative with all their projects. Each week they were working on something new and interesting. My daughter was always excited to be going to art class. It's really nice that the class size is small and Mrs Okano is a great teacher. She's very patient with them and has them really explore their own creative side rather than each kid just make a copy of the teacher. At the end of the two sessions there was an art exhibition. We got to see all of the art work from all of the classes they offered. My daughter had about 6-7 projects that she completed. You could really see her growth from the first project to the last. We signed up for another session with Mrs Okano and can't wait to see what new things my daughter will be learning.

Cannot recommend this place enough!

Our home is now quickly filling with a large assortment of mugs, berry bowls, sake cups, rice bowls, trinket dishes, incense holders and the list goes on. On a positive note, we now have no shortage of Christmas and birthday presents. As mentioned, Mudd Studio offers wheel throwing and hand building workshops of various lengths (1 day, 3 day, etc.) They also offer studio membership. As a member, you have 24 hour access to the studio as well as use of the equipment, supplies, glazes, etc. My wife has never mentioned a negative thing about the place or people there - only that it is a positive, supportive and inspiring community. Its location in Chinatown (Smith Street) makes it a great addition to the local art scene. Support local businesses!

Our instructor, Paola, was fantastic--she explained each step clearly and gave us plenty of space to experiment and practice at our own pace. She struck the perfect balance between guidance and freedom, and I always felt supported. Between the two of us, we made four pieces: two cute little ice cream bowls, a pretty little green cup, and a small planter that I'm absolutely in love with. The class was fun, relaxed, and such a great way to connect--not only with each other, but also with the other classmates in our small group. I can't wait to go back and keep learning (and creating)!

Seize the clay by taking a class at Aloha Aina! My friend and I took a class with Joel the other…read moreday and he's so nice and knowledgeable. We each made a 6in bowl and they came out perfect with Joel's assistance and we can't wait to glaze them! We learned a ton about pottery from Joel, but the only thing I wish we had was more time to play independently on the wheel. We never had a chance to play on the wheel without assistance, which kind of makes sense since you don't want the clay to go flying (we were total newbies) but it would've been nice to have assistance and then learn to work with it a bit on our own. Some helpful tips: - wear something you don't mind getting covered in clay in since it will splatter! But you can also bring a towel because they have a hose outside to rinse off. - Trim your nails! I have relatively short nails and even cut them beforehand but they still weren't short enough for certain portions so Joel had to take over completely (which is no biggie but I kind of wish I had just cut mine shorter) - Bring cash for payment - The studio is pretty deep in Wahiawa so might help to map it beforehand to double check drive time but we had no issue finding the actual studio and the neighborhood has plenty of parking. - You'll need two sessions: One for wheel throwing and the other for glazing (helpful to keep in mind if you're visiting) and then I'm pretty sure I'll need to stop by later to pick them up! All in all, great experience and definitely recommend! We made perfect bowls (which is pretty satisfying alone!) and my friend and I are already thinking imagining our new lives as professional potters!

I booked a kid private party (minimum 6 painters) for my child's birthday and would definitely recommend PFYS to have something fun for the guests to do! she offers bigger parties too! my kid is already thinking of the next painting to choose from Gwenaelle's gallery to paint for another future event! on the day of the event, PFYS was on time (actually early and I felt bad but she was really good about it). and the kids were so excited to paint! she provided everything and made it so stress-free for everyone - a big sheet to lay out for the kids (she will provide table if needed), all the different color paints, plates, brushes, easels, canvases, aprons, little towels to wipe the brushes, and her friendly personality and amazing art skills with guided step by step instructions so everyone could have a relaxing time painting right on the beach with an amazing view. it was such a wonderful experience and the kids were so happy with the outcome of their paintings and best of all got to sign it and take it home with them! check them out at https://paintforyoursoul.com ! you won't be disappointed.

During our first meeting, I showed her some photos of ideas and we talked flowers/colors. I could tell she was passionate about flowers and had a knack for design. She had lots of good suggestions and totally understood what I was going for. She created a Pinterest board for us to share photos which was super helpful. We met one more time before the wedding to finalize everything. Of all of my vendors, I think she was my favorite to work with! She was flexible, responded quickly, worked within my budget and had so much aloha. And the FLOWERS. Omg, I couldn't believe how gorgeous they turned out! Everything was perfect. She made all of my tropical wedding flower dreams come true!

With a name like Posy Parties, do you even need to look any further?!?!…read more Manu was amazing; if you're like me, and know ZERO about flowers, you'll find Manu to be amazing as well! Florals will be one of the more pricey items on your vendor list, but I promise that if you hire Posy Parties, you will be SO happy with the results. I spoke with a few other florists before deciding to book with Manu; not only was she extremely timely in her responses, but her prices were very reasonable in comparison, and our consultations couldn't have been easier. I spoke with Manu over the phone several times, and emailed her pictures of what I had envisioned. I actually NEVER personally met her, as I was so busy the day of the wedding that I never got to meet her! Manu went above and beyond everything that I could have imagined with the flowers... People kept complimenting our beautiful bouquets and asking who we used. She turned our concrete jungle ceremony site into a beautiful fairytale. Many of my other vendors had never even heard of Posy Parties. Although Posy Parties is not as mainstream as many other florists on the island, I'm so glad that i went with my gut and trusted Manu with our flowers. I have a feeling that they will not be such a secret any more!

Words cannot describe this artist…read more Genius? Friendly? Free spirit? How about all of this and more! We had the pleasure of meeting and working with him at an event in late January in Kapolei. It was certainly an educational experience which Naoki Hayashi was the master in both teaching keiki's and adults alike, whether it was etiquette or the skill of his craft. My friend remembered his paintings that adorn the Original Roy's (Hawaii Kai) Restaurant lobby area (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=KRN2w_7B09aVEMvE2UQg0g&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) and immediately brought his daughter to meet him. When she returned with her artwork, I walked over to find a short line of three adults waiting. When the line became a non-keiki situation, he clearly stated that this activity is meant for keiki's and he would do adults later; being totally understanding, I dropped out and figured it wasn't meant to be. As the event wound down, I noticed more and more adults lining up and taking photos. Looking at my watch, I figured he would probably break down his table and pack up. Guess what? He stayed until every last guest got their fish before calling it a day. As we talked while he coached me (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=vYjsW5dncHvLRLFFJTexnA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), I learned how his passion for his craft led him to this career. You certainly have a greater appreciation for his work and patience after you meet him. Hope to stop by this store next trip to the island.
