It is really hard to find an honest mechanic. My family has been coming to WMA for years. Eric is straightforward and I like that they don't try to over sell anything or fix what isn't broken. Prices are pretty competitive to other local mechanics. Very friendly service and honest work. Old skool mechanic shop, reminds me of going to a shop as a kid with my dad. You can pick up oil, cleaning products, brooms, and other auto care odds & ends. I do recommend this business. read more

had a really really poor experience overall with this shop. The people were nice, the service was pretty terrible. I brought my car in for a check engine light reading EVAP codes, and a yearly inspection. They ended up replacing my purge valve, doing some rear brake work, and turning off the check engine light. I was told I needed to wait until the check engine light was clear for me to officially get my inspection stickers. About a day later, my check engine light comes back on. take the car back in and they say I need to replace my gas cap. Check engine light comes back on after getting this replaced, and instead of deciding to take it back to this shop, I go to a trusted mechanic my family back home has gone to for a long time. This mechanic back home does a quick smoke test of my EVAP system to find that the lock ring which holds my fuel pump to the fuel tank was cracked nearly the entire way around so large that gasoline was splashing out of the broken seal. He was stunned that West Main Auto didn't find this issue. a simple smoke test and it was obvious what the issue was, but they were all the way out in left field. There seemed to be a lack of care and intentionality diagnosing my issue. it seemed as if they read the codes and went ahead claiming an issue without any real inspection. Went back in to get my stickers 3-months later past due, nearly $1500 wasted because of their failure to diagnose the issue with my car properly not once, but twice. and this is just the absolute cherry on top. About 2 months after having my inspection + rear brake work done, there began a horrible pulsating scraping noise coming from the drivers side rear wheel. I decided to inspect it myself thinking it could be a bearing or something stuck in the brakepads ect.. and as I was taking the wheel off, I realized 4/5 luggnuts were so loose I could unscrew them by hand. This is day 1 stuff... definitely not a re-assuring sign. If I was a negligent car owner and didn't care/pay attention to the sounds my car makes, there is a high likelihood the next time I drove on the highway my wheel either would have come completely off or caused serious damage to the axle/brake system. Thats enough of an impression left for me to never come back to this shop. read more

Had a flat repaired today at West Main Auto In Mount Joy. I purchased the set of four tires there. When I asked Eric to reinstall the tire on my car, he told me they didn't know I wanted it reinstalled and said they were too busy. He said had he known that I wanted the tire reinstalled, he wouldn't have taken on the repair. I would need to return tomorrow to have it mounted again. So much for supporting local business. Worst services ever! read more

I spoke with different Auto shops about my Chevy Blazer and was told by them All that West Main Auto is a horrible place to take your vehicle. $700. Later still a truck not running. read more

Being new to the area we wanted to find a good "go to" mechanic. Aren't we in luck as West Main Auto is just that and local. Called on short notice for an oil change and they gladly gave me an appointment for that afternoon. Took the car in early and called within 35!minutes. Process was seamless, staff was friendly, price was beyond reasonable, and an overall good experience. I would recommend them gladly. read more

I had the pleasure of using Jim Robert's West Main Auto yesterday after calling last week for a quote for a set of 4 new tires and an inspection to be performed. Michele there was extremely helpful in ordering the tires I requested and scheduling a time for their installation and my inspection, and I dropped off my car the night before the work was scheduled to be performed. Michele called around 10am the next day to let me know there were a few small repairs that were needed to pass inspection and then about 3 hours later when my car was ready to be picked up. Overall I'm extremely happy as I feel they did great work at a fair price and I will be using them again in the future. My tire blew up on a Sunday night, and I needed to leave early on Monday for a trip. I knew the mechanics were usually there before the posted open hours, so I stopped by early on Monday morning. Took my Ford Ranger in to get a tire replaced. After they put the new tire on I was driving the next day and tire pressure sensor came on. To make the story short, one of the technicians knocked the sensor off when he/she was changing the tire, then stuck it back on with tape. The service manager actually thought I would believe that the sensor had been taped on before I bought the truck and wouldn't admit to doing anything wrong. This is a common mistake that tire jockeys make with sensors. It's also an expensive mistake since you can't just replace the metal band, you have to replace the whole sensor. I don't argue with stupid people because I lose my temper, so I'll just say don't go to this place to get anything done. read more

This place LITERALLY was a GOD-SEND on a rainy Saturday @4PM - my windshield wipers flew off during a torrential downpour (while a truck was passing me) on the interstate - pulled off as fast as I could and googled mechanics - the ONLY place open (in Amish Country) was West Main Auto, and not only did they have new blades for me, the kind gentleman (Ron?) came outside (in the rain) and actually installed them for me. What else can I say about such an exemplary outfit, where people still care about each other and go the extra mile for their customers. Not even one star....horrible service! Eric has an attitude and should not deal with people...ever! Call him and explain your issue and he will do whatever ever he wants to your car .....poor listening skills and has a demeaning attitude. read more
